Daine Laurie #237

Laurie in reserve grade has played with really bad body language and at times looked to be not trying but the actual production has been best in the side every week. He's got this really weird way of playing like he doesn't want to be there but doing enough to demonstrate he's the best player in the side at the same time. It's kind of bizarre.
What BS!!!

A FULLBACK needs to be the fittest player - and properly switched on for 80 minutes!!]

Daine is a BUM who still thinks he can coast on raw "talent" - while his athletic and skill development has peaked!

He is no longer even a long term NRL development option due to his ego and lack of commitment that has phucked his further education as a professional athlete and player!

I actually kinda feel for him.
What your saying is the kid has talent, but he is bitter and burned.

I totally get that.

Start of the year 2-3 games in we drop him for Bula. Bula ofcourse has been awesome. Don't forget though Daine Laurie came here and helped bring Naden. I think to that point Daine was with us.

I also totally understand why he was dropped. Our team performance was woeful and several commentators highlighted his failure to bring the ball back. ....

^which should have been picked up by Madge and coached in by Sheens. Sheens drops him and Daine goes off the rails?!?!?

Starford is far better at Center then Kepaoa. Check Daine's head space, if Daine is willing to take another shot move him to 5/8. Starford to Center, Kepaoa to off the bench impact and I can see a backline that works.

Like Mark Waugh and Usman Khawaja

Has played 11 games of NSW Cup for 10 line break assists and 9 try assists. The best numbers for anyone who isn't a half while playing in a weak team.

I’ve been pushing for Laurie to get a shot 5/8 all season, so why do I suddenly feel nervous that it’s not the right decision ?
Hope he pulls out some sort of positive display.
Not a fan of him playing 5/8 , but I will wait to see how he goes , also not sure he can defend in the front line , think he will get run over by there backrowers

Quite possible BP he’s hardly a robust build but hope he can evade them and tackle where required.

I've also wanted to see him at 6 for quite some time. The performances in Cup haven't been great but with a good forward pack in front of him I trust we will see what Gus has hinted at for a while. I trust he nails it for the sake of the team and for his own career.

I'd have a lot more confidence in your "feeling" if you knew if he had a kicking game lol

For what it's worth, the few kicks I have seen him do have been shit.
Don’t think that’s the strong part of his game B but could be interesting to see him, Bula and Toa teaming up with some passing, support etc.
Or am I dreaming yet again ?

I'm concerned for his defence, but his ability with the ball in hand is interesting. Him playing through the middle will decide if it's a success or not- backing up those offloads from Klem etc- could open up the opposition.

Let's be honest- we almost NEED this to work. Fingers crossed.

But it matters a little less at 5/8.
IMHO Laurie defended better then Mbye, Mbye seemed to get in the right position and then just speedhump. In the end I felt sorry for him because he knew where to be just not how to stop anyone.

A 5/8 with other players around him can speedhump or at least slow the player down. It's the Centre/wing that it's critical that the tacklers stop the other player... Fullback likewise your often the last person.

I've never been a huge Laurie fan, but I think his speed will really help us create more opportunities in attack.

Personally I'm not too worried about his defence. I suspect one of our strong defenders will shadow him to reduce the number of one on one tackles he needs to make.

I am hoping that he puts on a gutsy display this weekend with some attacking highlights. Not expecting him to win us the game but just hoping to see some glimpse of potential.
Knowing our luck he will kill it, then on Monday they will release him to another club 🤦‍♂️

Maybe good time to have Wakeham in your supercoach team. You'd think he does all the kicking and I'm guessing we will be doing a lot of clearance kicks from our 30.

DL reminds me of Moylan. Their attitude, playing style, body structure etc feel similar.
