BENJI WON’T WALK AWAY FROM TIGERS

Benji Marshall has put an emphatic end to any suggestion he is ready to walk away from the Wests Tigers over creative differences with recruitment boss Scott Fulton.

Marshall, earmarked to become the Tigers head coach when Tim Sheens stands aside at the end of next year, has reportedly been at loggerheads with Fulton in recent weeks over some key recruitment calls.

It prompted speculation at the weekend that Marshall was ready to walk away from the club because he and Fulton were at odds.

Tigers chair Lee Hagipantelis revealed chief executive Justin Pascoe was concerned enough to clarify the situation with Marshall. Now Marshall has chimed in, telling Sport Con he has no plans to walk away from the club and remains committed to taking over the head coaching duties in 2025.

“I love my job as an assistant coach and I’m looking forward to learning more off Tim this year and in 2024 and excited to become the head coach in 2025 and I’m not walking out anywhere,” Marshall said.
“That’s the end of it!”

Marshall has kept a low profile since giving up his job in the media to pursue his dream of becoming an NRL coach.

The fact he has now publicly refuted rumours he may walk away should put an end to any suggestion he is having second thoughts over his career choice.

The rumour mill has been in overdrive ever since club powerbrokers poached Fulton from Manly without consulting Marshall or Sheens, his appointment ultimately coming at the cost of former recruitment boss Warren McDonnell.

There have also been ongoing reports that Fulton and the coaches have been at odds over key recruitment targets, among them Manly’s Josh Schuster and Newcastle back rower Tyson Frizell.

Marshall was also desperate to keep Luke Brooks and it has been suggested the club had to be convinced to make their halfback an offer. Brooks rejected the deal and instead has signed a long-term contract with Manly, who he will join next season.

“When Lee Hagipantelis went out and got a head of recruitment for his club and didn’t consult Tim Sheens or Benji Marshall, the coach and the future coach of the club, did he not think that this was a possibility?” former Tigers star Braith Anasta told NRL360.

“To not consult those two people who run the club and who set the standards. They know what players they want and they know why they want them.

“They are looking ahead. Benji is trying to build this club for the future. Benji is passionate about the joint. He loves the joint. He is trying to build this club.

“They hire a head of recruitment without talking to him and then expect it all to just be beautiful, sunshine and rainbows. I just don’t understand.” (DT)
It’s pretty obvious they deliberately didn’t tell Sheens or bunji as they knew that they would leak it to the press, as they wanted to keep Ronald in power. I think it was a smart move, but time will tell!

No shit, Sherlock! U were inferring that the club wasn’t chasing anyone! Which they were heavily. That’s why McDonald got the flick fir stuffing that whole thing up.
Obviously comprehension isn't your strong suit, what I was inferring was the club should have been speaking to multiple people at once months ago when the brains trust realised Brooks wasn't going to be able to get it done.
I also inferred that they should have taken that approach while waiting on that scumbag Moses. I'm aware they were speaking to Moses but common sense is he and his relative manager are slime who can't be trusted hence why we should have been speaking to multiple players at once, then we wouldn't be in the position of having noone. It's common sense.

I am NO fan of Blake

I am NO fan of Blake Taffe (spelling). He reminds me of a Deer in a headlight and often looks nervous and indecisive. I think more time dedicated to looking at other players, but I am unable to confidently throw up names?
Both Taaffe and Illias on the outer at Souths. Next year Cody at 1/2, Wighton 5/8, Graham and Ethan Furguson centres.

Despite this they'll still say their mail is hes ready to walk, this will be a non story in their eyes despite the direct quote. As much as we hate to admit it they know anything Wests Tigers gets clicks so they'll run with it anyway.
"That story we ran last week about Benji threatening to leave Tigers, well it's not true, he told us he definitely doesn't want to leave, even though there were previous rumours (started by us) that Benji might in fact leave, he's now saying that he doesn't plan to leave. Braith Anasta says it's not been handled well, both the rumour about Benji possibly leaving and now from Benji himself that he's not leaving, even though there were previous rumours that he was leaving. In fact we heard previously, from us, that Benji was in fact leaving, and now that he says he's not leaving, we are fairly sure he isn't leaving, even though there was that rumour about it, from before. "

Multiple who champ? No ones of contract! As the season goes on there’s more chance of teams letting players go as the salary cap starts biting. But I don’t need to tell u this as you are obviously know everything about the game!

The Sharks have already said they won't stand in Trindalls way if a club signs him, No club would block the deal for a 2nd or 3rd string player, we just have to hand over a few dollars.

What is mind boggling is why we didn't have these discussions with Sanders, Trindall, Cogger, Pezet after the first 8 weeks, why have we waited so long, blind Freddy could see the team had no attacking direction or onfield leadership. I couldn't see any of their respective clubs complaining if we talk to their 2nd or 3rd string halves. Couldn't our coaches see that Brooks wasn't the answer, our pack are generally eating through the metres and we are totally impotent in attack. Wtf were they waiting for.
To be fair the club has a crack at Munster, Moses, Pearce and Johnson in recent months with pretty decent bids put up for each, so they have identified the need for a 7. Can’t blame them for trying to get a gun / mature 7 as a first port of call. I think it is realistic that we are only looking at up and comers and good KOE players now as a second wave of potential recruitment.

Is that mail? Benji and Illias are very close. I don't rate Illias at all, his kicking game is terrible, and has no running game. One thing he does great is play straight opening up the edge for Walker. He has improved that part or his game and is actually the best half in the NRL at doing it. But outside of that he is very limited.

I don't know why, but my gut keeps telling me Taafe will be a success at 7. I could be way off, but it's in my gut for some reason.
