LIVE GAME Round 19 vs. Sharks

Live Game Discussion
Effort was there last night but the issue is attack. Because we can’t score points, teams get their noses in front and accelerate by upping risk and playing soem footy. They know that a dropped ball or missed tackle will have little impact. If you cannot apply scoreboard pressure, then you’re at the mercy of good teams.

The halves last night offered nothing. They didn’t engage the line or put the defensive line in two minds of what they were going to do. In their red zone, it was a simple catch and pass meaning the Sharks sweated on the runners and clearly won the ruck so our attack slowed down.

I haven’t seen the stats but our halves would have run for total of 5 metres between them. I don’t believe Wakeham had any runs at all.
They ran 100m between them.
Smith threw that beautiful ball for Talaus try.

Calmly watched replay this morning and a few things stood out
Our wingers not even close . Kepoa can't catch ,and won't tackle ,don't think he wants to get hurt , when he gets involved in a tackle its as 2nd or 3rd one in . Tupou who was showing promise has become very error prone . The amount of times Bula was left to make a one man tackle on his own is a disgrace .
Bula is class pure and simple . Pity he's behind this backline in a top side he'd be a star .
You can't win a game with these halves who basically create nothing . Wakeham has a kicking game but that's all and Smith just nothing but 6 missed tackles
Our attack in general in 2nd half is slow flat and dreadful .Makes me wonder what our great attacking coaches teach them ?
Small bright spot .Blore and Seyfarth had reasonable games
Summary we need wingers ,half's and our hooker back on the field
Without this its impossible
Spot on. Amongst many things, our spine (excluding Bula) & outside backs are NSW Cup quality.

I get so frustrated with the lack of urgency & effort in our wingers & centres. So many times when a break is made against us, they are just jogging and not trying everything they can to chase.

T'oa needs to see a sports psychologist as it seems the world is against him when something goes against him.

Tupou needs to a HUGE summer of catching bombs in all situations.

Forwards can hold their head up high but we lost the yardage battle, a bit to do with Simpkin's dummy half service.

Bateman is a competitor, but I dont see him getting any better as a player, a 4 year contract, his body type as an edge forward went 3 years ago, I see a big waste of money coming again. Please drop Wakeham, would rather Laurie at 7 and Matamua at 6.

Line speed was terrible. There was an easy 10 metres for the Sharks every hit-up. Sharks halves had all the time in the world to run at the lines, I'm surprised the score wasnt more. This actually improved for us when Blore and Seyfarth came on, not sure what they says about Stefano and Klemmer. Klemmer looked slow last night, his lateral movement at time a little like Tamou. He's carried this team this year, I wonder if he's over it now.

Line speed and tackling is back where it was last year when we had low rent forward pack. We're not going to compete with that effort. Prior to last week against the Cowboys our forward pack had been dominant this year (beside the Broncos game).

Usually @ElleryHanley has a big angry rant pointing out what went wrong after losses, but it's all just apathy now, hey? Another dud season with little to be positive about. We know there's ability with Bula, Tupou, To'a and a few others but it all just fades into the same old mediocrity.

Mostly true, but api leads our line speed and also helps with slowing the play the ball. His loss can not be measured to the team.

If you did know the rules the sin bin can only be used in the event of misconduct. The rule book outlines what is considered misconduct. Committing an action that results in a penalty is not considered misconduct unless it is deemed deliberate (or repeated or dangerous). If the strip was not considered deliberate, ie Talaki was attempting to strip the ball legally but failed to do so before the tackle was complete, then there is no misconduct.
Feel free to get a rule book and look up "power to dismiss". Otherwise continue to laugh and show your ignorance.
I was just expressing my thoughts on the Talakai incident
Other than Talakai himself no one knows if it was a deliberate act or not, the referee & your opinion are obviously different to mine so be it.

In the cold light of day it is pretty clear what our problems are on the field. However one of my huge concerns is that Benji is supposedly coaching the attack, yet it is so poor that i am now questioning whether the players are buying in to his coaching, or whether he has no idea. Either way it seems we don’t have much to look forward to when he takes over completely. This is a real issue!

You should probably look up the double movement rule before accusing others of ignorance
The rule that states you cant make a second movement after the arm holding the ball comes into contact with the ground.
You can slide in with momentum but you can't promote the ball whilst that momentum is sliding you toward but short of the line, which is what Hynes did. Sheens actually also raised this post game.

Fair enough if you considered it deliberate. I responded as that opinion did not come across in your original statements.

A lot of praise for Bula, and I understand he is young, developing and the least of our problems, but he is still a long way off being up to standard at fullback.

He misses his assignment on attacking plays more often than not. His first drop ball, off a Bateman pass, is an example of what I'm talking about. Standing deep and flat-footed not pushing forward to possibly create an overlap. His passing game is poor, partially due to his poor positioning and partially just not a great selective passer.

I'm confident he will improve this with more experience, an off season training as the first choice and better halves (if we actually manage to sign some). Just wanted to highlight how far off he remains.

Wests Tigers centre Starford To'a has accepted an early guilty plea to a Dangerous Throw charge and will be hit with a $750 fine.
I see the match review committee did not charge Klemmer for his "high shot."
Another open sore with me that officials so often treat us unfairly.

Give him an NRL quality 6 and 7 before we judge him.

Have a look at program and read our side, paying particular attention to the spine and the backs. They’re doing their best with a lack of experience and moderate ability.
Agreed - the lack of talent and ability is what I was alluding to in my post- but surely as professionals they ought to be able to perform some basic back line attack- stand deeper, run onto the ball, change angles, use decoys, run into gaps. They look like under 6s in the opposition red zone. Benji is the attacking coach FFS!

I am so against the way the whole gambling thing has influenced the game. Just a thought, but did anyone think that their last try was sort of brushed over by the bunker? I may be wrong but i understand the line with Sportsbet was 23.5 points. The try on the final siren made the margin exactly 24 points - seems a coincidence doesn’t it!!
