Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Amongst the challenge of finding and signing decent halves for the next few years we are about 2 years away from needing to replace some of our decent forward pack. Need plans in place for say 2025-2027 otherwise we will be back to having no platform for halves and backs to take advantage of.

Parramatta made the GF last year… they are levels better managed than us …

You mention issues with Arthur/Hasler/Toovey… now do the Tigers coaching history
What coach would we promote internally?

Jason Taylor, Terry Lamb?

Benji Marshall perhaps may be our first (or maybe not) good NRL coach.

Manly's success has been Des and Toovey combined with a great juniors program up the north coast.

Parra, Parra have just been lucky to get Brad Arthur. Remove Arthur and remember Ricky Stuart coaching the joint? Parra were getting the spoon under Ricky.

Does our board own our bad coaching situation? Yes, they agreed to the Sheens/Marshall plan and moved too soon. Heck sacking Madge without an option (yes they should have sacked him, no they can wait till an actual coach is there to replace...) is on Sheens and on them.

The only thing you'll have to worry about our team becoming with Clune in the halves - Will be the first team to win the spoon 3 years in a row for some time...

I like what he is stating. At least it's looking to improve on where we are at. We have Wakeham and Laurie or Will Smith in the halves and none of them are signed for next season. Doueihi is our only signed option in the halves and I have no confidence he will make it as an NRL player period.

We need to get some halves even if it's only for a season of two. The market is bare. We are hanging our hats on Fainu which is ridiculous.

Apart from all the non signings I was just thinking that we haven't even resigned or extended any players in a while either..
Makes you wonder what's actually doing in the office.
They'll be extending lots of players when the final realization hits that no one wants to come here and then they will try to spin it as "aggressive negotiations" to secure our star players.

Of course they will probably be spending overs to secure mediocre players that no one else is interested in to stay here to make up the required numbers and use up our so called war chest in the process.

It makes you wonder why they let go of the 'next big thing' in Latu to sign Brooks. There would be a difference of about 3 to 4 hundred grand also. I smell a rat.
My this that Manly are is a heap of pain with their salary cap.
Just my thoughts but I’m like most people on here no one really knows what’s going on, just a lot of guys throwing darts like myself.
One thing I know is that we all love our club.

I don't believe with our current " situation " on and off the field we will be able to sign any current 1st grade stars . Doesn't matter weve got plenty of money they just won't come ! .However if we hone in on some of the top performers who can't get a regular 1st grade gig purely because they are back up for the top clubs superstars in their position they might prefer to be a permanent NRL half or 5/8 or center/wing with the Wests Tigers than only play a few top grade games a season !
Also we should explore both the NSW and QLD cup top 4 sides for future stars but not 18 yr olds weve got plenty of them ourselves
Its super URGENT we recruit a halfback ,a center and possibly a 5/8
We have a good pack but not enough quality depth
I see a lot of suggestions on money but keep in mind 17 clubs with top 30 comes to about 500 players and the average contract is currently 382k and there is about 200 on minimum wage of 130 k this year going to 150k next year .The top 150 range from about
600k -$1.2mill .So offering someone a 3 year deal of 400k pa is just average nothing special !!

I think the slimy eels have won something like 6 spoons in a row, the way we are going I'm sure we could give that a fair crack.

Mate we've had three premiership winning coaches in the joint, one who is going to take the Warriors to the finals, a guy who won two Dally M's and is an absolute legend. And the Cowboys coach who just smacked us 74 nil. Yeah blame coaches...

Andrew Webster was here, he seemed to do good here. The Warriors seemed to pick him up as last man standing. He has batted way above average and yes we should have identified him as talent.

Todd Payten, IMHO would not have succeeded here as a first year coach. The cows beat us 74-nill. but we had no halves and it's north QLD. I think now he could succeed here by training us hard, but then No way.

Otherwise it's Madge, who had 4 years to get our team going and I should have never backed him at year 3. Guy was doing the same gameplan week in week out.

Sheens who seems to do a different gameplan day in day out. Cleary who got out after 1 year.

No criticism to Webster or Payten. When they were here they were never top shelf coaches. IMHO Clearly is the only person who conducted himself well enough to be a top coach.

I still dont understand Manly selling the greatest
Junior half you could wish to have in your club.
And replace him with The worst senior half.

LUKE BROOKS

Thats not made any sense to me, and it never will, it wont bother me in the slightest if this whiz kid goes to Dolphins.

But yes it bothers me that we have not signed players to replace the ones weve gotten rid of, and the others we plan to let go as well, surely we must eventually sign some Names.
Denis, give it a break mate, he is leaving and your constant whinging is becoming boring

We are not in a position to have bad relationships with player managers. Be professional, sign players from different management sources and pay players what they’re worth and you have no issues.
Issac Moses is poison.
I just can’t understand why the **** Nick Politis helped him get his accreditation back with the NRL.
Then he turned around and pooped on Uncle Nick not that I’m concerned about the Rorters. but it just showed that type a person Moses is.

THE POM has been quiet, but then again why would he come on nothing to report, signings department have hit a brick wall lol
Just had a quick look and @THE_POM hasn't posted on the Podcast Forum for at least 5 months.

Who ever he was may have been found out at the club and been shown the door or is just not privy to any information any more.

Did he come out with some Pascoe sacking imminent information at some stage and it looked like he had been set up to see who was leaking information at the club.

Just an impression I had but could be totally wrong.

Some market news via SMH that impacts us:

https://www.smh.com.au/sport/nrl/tyson-frizell-poised-to-extend-knights-deal-20230710-p5dn48.html

State of Origin forward Tyson Frizell is set to hand the Knights a huge boost as he closes in on an extension to stay in Newcastle.

Frizell, arguably the biggest name on the NRL player market without a deal for 2024, is on the cusp of agreeing to terms with the Knights despite the lure of several rivals, most notably Benji Marshall and the Tigers.

Meanwhile, the Sharks have told rivals they won’t accept any approach for back-up half Braydon Trindall despite the 23-year-old’s struggle for regular NRL game time behind Nicho Hynes and Matt Moylan.

Trindall remains under contract at Cronulla until the end of 2025.

We have so much recruiting to do !
Currently in our contracted top 30 for 2024 we have total of 21 players and that includes Douehi who probably won't take the field next year
The 21 also includes Kepoa ? wonder if he's up to it ?The list also includes Tumeth ,Rua and Reilly of which I've only heard Reilly getting support for 1st grade
So I think we got at best about 19 . Where are the other 11 coming from ?
How's Fulton going so far ?

you are deflecting ..

none of what you say here is any real evidence that the Tigers are a better managed club then Eels or Manly..

the only arbitrator that we can give even the slightest credence to is on field performance and both those teams have out performed the Tigers since our current Management team has been on board …

THE POM has been quiet, but then again why would he come on nothing to report, signings department have hit a brick wall lol

we need THE POM to come here every week and say “no new signings this week”

Might upset those that say Tino and Fafita are on their way here
