Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Be interesting to see how the stefano contract clause plays out

He seems level headed and loyal and had also stated how he would love to be a future club captain and lead them out of these troubled times

I'm thinking the clause is something that was pushed for more by his manager to give them a bit of leverage if they if feel her needed it

As an example we have always struggled to recruit and with all our salary cap space and no notable recruits looking likely and around 95% of cap having to be spent each year his manager would be thinking who better for excess funds to go to than one of our best youngsters who has now players origin rather than randoms in our top 30 who really don't deserve it

A problem we could have though if big stef wanted out is that it could be easily sorted with a chat to Freddy and politis which would see stef not picked for origin regardless of form allowing the clause to come into play and rorters a free pass to stef
Agree with this Pole and Blore both been good , Steph needs to come of the bench after 20 but he is young and needs to be taught some hard edge play , last year after origin he was pushing forward and dragging players with him , his aggression has regressed a bit , just needs that back and he’ll be fine
i would extend him and Pole plus Blore they are the future
We now have James in waiting as his replacement.

Payne Haas has decided to test the market come Nov 2023.

Add to that the potential Tino and Fifita release clause, it's rapidly become the biggest front-row open market in years.

Slight advantage for Tigers is that many clubs do not have a lot of salary cap space to spend big on props.
The salary cap does not concern the successful clubs. They find ways around it.

I love how a conspiracy gets going.

Freddy (who was probably the worst coach the chooks have had in the modern era), gets a big head after a rampaging Trel Mit and Red Hot Tom Turbo rip a second rate Queensland team a new one.
He then thinks he's god's gift to the coaches box and continues to make bizarre team selections choices picking players out of position and carrying unneeded players on the bench. Then drops an under utilised Stefano (with others) and suddenly it's because the would be club captain has already signed a HOA with the chooks.
Freddy's unbelievable hubris should not be mistaken for anything else but just that, a complete misalignment of confidence and ability.

The call has gone out for Boyd Cordner to take the reigns next year, I whole-heartedly agree.

Don't even let yourself think for a second that any of those signings would be a reality for us. It will only end in disappointment.

That’s zero advantage for players like those mentioned. All clubs have money for 25 onwards. Most have half their squad or more off contract.

Has any one got any real idea how much cap we have NOW , and with TT and brooks leaving this year how much will we have for next season

With Shaun Johnson signing on with the Warriors for next season & Chanel Harris Tavita returning, who will be the half that makes way in their squad? I don't think it will be Volkman as he is the likely heir apparent at halfback. As time goes on, Luke Metcalf is getting a strangehold on five-eighth.

So what are people's thoughts on securing Te Maire Martin as our 5/8?

I think Volkman is most likely to drop out given he hasn’t got much of a go in the NRL. TMM could be released as well.

There is no way they’ll go into 2024 with all of those players in the halves.

We all just found out?

People really reckon Brad Fittler would drop or not pick players just in case they could then activate a release clause to leave Tigers in 18 months, not even necessarily to the Roosters? Highly doubtful.

Freddy's first and primary concern is winning Origins. As it stands, not only is he not even guaranteed to be the 2024 coach due to losing this year's series (his contract would have been auto-extended if NSW won the series), he's not even guaranteed to re-apply to be the coach in 2024.
Freddy is a terrible coach

He would do anything he has shown that year after year for bloody years

Surely your not the only one that can't see that

Rorters were just used as an example of a club that benefits from this kind of thing

The only reason I thought of that scenario anyway because if a player was that desperate to leave and many have been when it comes to this incompetent club I would say they would go to any length to get away asap

But like I stated in the original post he sound like the loyal type so I'm expecting he will stay

Ok, what’s this I’m reading about Holbrook, does it have any legs or is it just another journos delusional ramblings.
I’m not sure what to make of Holbrook but I can see the logic in what is being written, especially regarding Tito and Fifita (although I personally put Fifita into the Schuster basket, unfulfilled potential). Did you watch last night, drifted in and out of the game.
I guess we’ll here more !

Honestly with how many of these articles popping up about fake rifts and other bullshit, I think this is just an attempt to further destabilise the club. I think people need to stop reading too much into these articles.

Need I remind you of the supposed rift between Benji and Sheens? These Journos will just run with a bunch of different crap until something sticks. NRL journalism is such a sick joke.

Fifita is the best edge forward in the game by a country mile, in my opinion.

He didn’t drift in and out of the game, he was off the field most of the time (dealing with a back issue, I believe).

Thanks for the info @tigermate

Did he say the root cause of the issue in his opinion? I would highly doubt that Benji would have no long term vision of success.

It's so disappointing to hear manager's attitudes of the club like this. It probably means none of his clients will be signing with us while whatever 'behind-the-scenes' power battles are going on!

I actually hope now that managers express these feelings to the media to further up the pressure on the club for change. This can't go on!
IMO This is all a ploy to get the club to breaking point so it folds...we all know the NRL wants expansion, but there aren't enough quality players to add more teams without culling from the current.

All good.

Heard it from a player agent - direct.

And he’s one of the top 3 guys who manages best talent.

and that was last week before this article.

I’m hoping it’s incorrect

But can’t blame Steff if he did want out

Players want to play semis

He won’t want to be at a club as a future rep player for 5 yrs with no semis

Who would lol

He said to me “Steff will probably leave… and a lot of juniors too… the club has no vision… and the dynamics with sheens benji Fulton is a sh*t show… and Scott could walk too”

Don’t shoot the messenger
Another example of player managers running the game not the NRL or the clubs...seriously, a draft would fix all this sh*t.
