LIVE GAME Round 21 vs. Dragons

Live Game Discussion
Don't know what a lot of people were expecting in this one. We have reserve grade halves at best, any side in the NRL with our halves would lose 90 percent of their games. There is no one else to pick people.
Did you watch the game?
I expected us to win dragins weren't throwing much at us... We threw that game away im still pissed off.
I expected us to win... We should've won.. But couldnt

Calmly watched replay this morning and at least backline better .Nofo was safe hands and made some good tackles . Tupou was better but a few errors 2nd half and bad missed tackle on Lomax leading to only 2nd half try . Talau also missed Lomax .
One problem our attack always went left never right . They need to mix it up .
Laurie who I've always liked as he has a bit of flair something Tigers don't have a lot of
Wakeham is really not up to Ist grade level had a poor game .Bula tried hard
All in all Backline showed a bit of effort unlike last week which was devoid of effort and don't see how one who was tanking even making 18th man this week .
Forwards ok but apart from Api and Ipaps nothing creative .When Seyfarth is one of the best its a worry . Twal is a plodder ,TDS nothing special ,
Laurie was clearly our best but can't win with an ordinary No 7
I would stick with most of them but need a better halback .Any ideas Api ? Bateman ?

They also score after a lost ball in the tackle where Ravalawa held on for an eternity and shoulda been six to go to us sees them get a turnover and score
Agree Ink but Im nearly 100% sure Laurie knew he was offside and still made the tackle. The lost ball wasn't intentional.

We've dominated field position and posession in more than half our games. Without a halfback it's meaningless.
You would think with Benji’s coaching wakeham would have made some improvements in his halfback play….I have not seen it…WAKEHAM is the worst halfback to wear the Tigers jersey

Good perspective. Most of the tries against us for the past 1-2 months have been on the edges so our middle defence has been great. If we had the right halves and continuity in our outside backs, we probably win at least 50% of the games we lost.

Wakeham, Talau and, in recent weeks, Nofa, T'oa & Tupou have been NSW Cup standard.

Tupou is still developing and T'oa is underutilised in attack. He is our best tackle-breaking back and we rarely give him opportunities 1-on-1.

Lock will be an interesting position for us moving forward. I am hopeful Matamua is the long-term answer but Blore and Seyfarth have definitely shown something. Not sure on Blore's ability as a link-man though.

I haven't checked the stats but from memory I don't think I'm far wrong.
The general point is that our results don't match our performances because we don't have halves.

I don't think there are any stats that prove that. I think at best you'll get something stating our forwards haven't been dominated because they've gotten enough attacking chances.

We don't have enough weapons to throw at teams plus we aren't executing well. It's not just the halves although they've been an issue for years. Our outside backs have been an issue for years as well.

We control possession and have a high completion rate because we play a conservative one hit up after another style…

We get to the opposition 20 and pass the ball from side to side, but our backs aren’t skilled enough to beat their man or create overlaps , and our halves don’t employ an stacking kicking game scoring tries from grubbers …

We have no halves… but having no outside backs doesn’t help

Guess what, it already has. What do you think will motivate the players now it looks almost certain the spoon is ours. Everyone will still get paid and mediocrity is the name of the game.
Don’t change anything and try something new coz what you’ve been doing ain’t working.
Let’s just slink off into the sunset and wait for another season.
Harsh but true

Something that didn't surprise me and something that did from last nights game.

What didn't surprise me is that Toupu is a gun when he gets quality ball instead of having the play stifled before it gets to him. He could have had a hat-trick if Talau passed the ball later in the 2nd half. I get Rawalawa was playing on 1 leg in the 2nd half, but he showed what he is capable of...just get him the ball!

What did surprise me is the one to give him that quality ball was none other than Daine Laurie! It is easy to say he is playing for a contract (and that possibly had a lot to do with his performance last night), but I think under the right kind of playing style he has a lot to offer. His talent is not in question imo, more his attitude and application.

My 2 cents.

Hate to single out players...but even a bog average center and half back and we win easily last night.

Talau was atrociously bad.

Wakeham was three steps behind the pace all night.

Take both out and put in any competent duo and we win 12 +

Disappointing part is that game was prob our only shot at a win for a while. This losing streak may go well over 10 before we have another chance.

Yeah watched it unfortunately but we are no chance of icing games without decent halves, even against piss poor sides. Any side with Laurie and Wakeham in the halves even if you had GI at fullback and Mal Meninga at centre would struggle. There are no other options so people might as well accept the fact that this years remaining games will be losses.
