Cricket Season Thread

Our blokes could have done this. They are batting on a road.
They look scared of the English bowlers and the pommy bats aren’t worried by ours at all.
We had to bat 2 full days in our first innings to break them. Our weak effort has emboldened them.
I think Warner was well on his way then snick

Yeah he looked good.
As did Lab, Smudge, Head and Marsh.
We needed a big 150 from one of them and a supporting tonne from another.
We needed to bat for 2 days, thus putting extreme pressure on their chase as the bad weather is coming.
Englands only concern now is said weather, otherwise they win this test and likely the whole series.
Our guys look tired, stressed and beaten.

Its obvious Pat should not be Captain . The pressure is affecting his own game
His batting got out 1st ball in Headingly and Got out 1st ball of the day yesterday
His bowling really poor . His shortballs coming thru hip high went wicketless at 6 runs per over . His field placings dumb .
What I don't understand is why Andrew McDonald doesn't intervene .
Let Pat just concentrate on his own game and bowl 4th 5th stump line with very occasional bumper .Get back to basics
Starc our best but having him chasing balls on our boundary also dumb .Lose him and Ashes lost .
5th Test drop Green as his batting poor and Hazelwood bring in Neser and Murphy

There is a lot of sense in what you say,Cummins is a decent captain when things are going ok but when it started to go bad (Lyon injured) he has zero answers. We need a captain who gets tougher and more resillient when things go bad.Smith has done his time and imho it is time for him to take over the captaincy even if it is just for this tour

Test match cricket is a really tough game when you’re losing, just ask the poms after game two and Patty after last night.
The tough selections were not made for this game, but I would start with Smith as on field captain, as of right now. Keep it in house, Pat still does the on field stuff keeping fairly normal to the outside.
People are gunna notice Smith in control on the field but they can answer those questions afterwards.
The other thing is Smith has a better average as captain and I just reckon Smithy will love it and it will get his marbles rolling.

Yeah Pat seems pretty good most of the time but it was clear for all to see the rigours of test match cricket as a bowling captain when you under real pressure and I am not saying sack him.
Something I thought of when he was first announced as captain was how many games has Pat actually been captain for in his life?
He grew up as a fast bowler playing up age groups and then men’s when still a boy. You’re not getting the capacity in that situation. His captaining experience would be very low if at all. Now he’s the captain of the best team on the planet and struggling during his fist real tough times. He’ll come out the other side a better captain and cricketer for it though bcoz he’s got that kind of character.

The game continues.
But who'd have thought.

Day 2, Test 4
England 2 wickets down.
Runs scored 384
Aussies fielders lining the boundaries
Bowlers found out
Batsmen MIA
Unlike any Aussie test team in recent memory

Hope the rest of this test shows a different Aussie approach.

I know right. Smith talked it up before the series about how Bazball hadn’t faced the Aussie attack yet. No attack is safe when it clicks.

This weather is a worry. Clouds start coming over, wickets start to fall…just in time for aussies to try and bat for a day and a half…

Rain is forecast at 100% chance for all day on Saturday so day 4 will be useless to both teams. Sunday is also forecasted for rain with most of the day predicted between 80% - 90% chance. Can’t see a lot of play occurring that day either.
When Australia bat today, they must make it through to stumps with wickets in hand, and scoring runs. This test will go to day 5, but maybe not much of it.

Yep. It’s a wonder England haven’t declared yet. I’d be itching to have a crack at the batters.
