Charlie Staines #262

Staines was in the team when he perforated his bowel.

He then returned for a single game in reserves following an extended lay off and then immediately jettisoned into the starting side the following week.

How is that not 'showing respect' in terms of selection?

Additionally, when is it the role of the head coach to 'show respect' with who he selects each week?

Weird take.

It's professional sport and players like Staines who are trying to establish themselves shouldn't have any expectations of being gifted marquee spots in the team.

Makes you wonder if they are preparing for the possibility of Edwards taking a big money offer elsewhere....
For some reason I feel like Edwards would definitely be one of those players who would not be nearly as good as he is now, playing at another club. He’s never really struck me as a player with high natural ability, but he looks like he would train well and always puts in 100%. I don’t think a lot of other clubs would motivate him to continue in that mould.

The author of this piece that claims Staines is returning to the Panthers is Andrew Webster - who is not known for his rugby league knowledge or breaking stories.

He lacks credible sources (aside from Wayne Bennett and co due to his recently released "biography").

He is the very first "journalist" to suggest Staines is due to return - and I would not be surprised if he has confused Daine Laurie with Staines!

* Like NRL media did when they posted Charlie Laurie as our winger one round!

Parra were keen on Staines mid-season release - so I highly doubt he would go back to Penrith to play reggies.

Not suggesting he'll stay or go - but this isolated one-liner from Webster is questionable!

To be fair he has been out for sometime, maybe we were been cautious to see how he came back before offering him a deal ????

We have 27 spots filled next year and are apparently signing Sezer and Sullivan shortly. Its fairly terrible roster management, but Im guessing Staines is getting left out.

Why we extended Naden, Kepaoa and Toa last year I have no idea.

I’d say it’s a fair chance we will be looking to move Keparoa, Nofoaluma, Simpkin, Ngatikaura and possibly Reilly and Naden all from our top 30 to fit others in.

Funny but I’ve got this feeling that Nofa will stay but agree on the others.

Please tell me that the tooth fairy is bringing us some new players, because the current people ain’t cutting the mustard

Agree....
Staines is quick - I don't know he gets close to Khan though, That guy is next level....

Don't think we'll be seeing Maumalo play again
in the NRL.. Injury & Aliofana-Khan's taken his
jersey. Big slow wingers have been made pretty
much redundant in this day & age. Ravalawa
& Sivo still have a bit of pace but they're a rarity

They're on the Kava

Because we had to make up the numbers and no one else would come.

You could ask the same question about Doueihi being extended for another year before a game was even played.
