Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

When you invest in 2 young halves (Fainu and Sullivan) with 4 Year Top 30 contracts, there will always be some casualties below them. Look at Panthers who have lost many good halves from their system of late.

We would still have Galvin, Mason, Isdale, Large and Matai on the books who all played halves for much of their time in the juniors.

Would like us to keep Conti, but he probably has a greater chance of making it to the top quicker in union.

The important part for Tigers now is prioritising the 'right' juniors underneath our main core. Clearly Galvin heads that list with a top 30 spot next year. I would imagine Large is another one who we desperately try to keep on the books and hopefully our other Aus Schoolboy Mason (as a half/fullback utility).
I haven’t seen this conti play before, is he a real prospect? I’ve heard him mentioned a few times but no where near as much as Galvin and large

few things in the wake of the DT article

1. glad to have Sezer and Sullivan tied up. that’s our halves pairing to start the year and ensures we aren’t rushing Latu.

2. Havea Jr is an excellent prospect and locking him up is a win for the club. keen to see him rip and tear with Schaafhausen-Mino and Peter Taai next year for HM. we have a plethora of good 13s coming thru which is very exciting.

3. it’ll be extremely disappointing if we lose Conti to RU. he is the most pure 7 in the pathways and would be my pick as WTs long term halfback and the heir to Scott Prince’s throne. hoping that we’re able to lock him down long term and well past the 2027 RWC.

Little nippy fella, tenacious, good boot, high IQ.
Having said that I'd gladly retain Galvin & Large
over him any day of the week if I was to pick 2
we can fit them all. Large will likely come thru via the backline with Latu at 6, Galvin will end up as a backrower and Conti can play 7. it is a worry that he could end up at RU but i think that all 3 have a place at WT well into the future.

How about isdale?

How about isdale?
they’re different styles. while Conti is the short kicking, long pass, clutch play whiz, Isdale is the more methodical, controlling type who has a good running and long kicking game.

it comes down to personal preference of course, but for mine Conti has the more well rounded game and possesses the skillset already, whereas Isdale would be the other way round.

I say this knowing that Isdale has only played one year of Matts, and there’s every chance that in his second year he improves on his showing. I think he’s a good prospect in his own right, I just rate Conti higher.

Hopefully mate, that would be grande if we did.
The post I made above was pretty much done
simultaneously with yours and is just my own
personal opinion. He's a crafty little footballer,
would love to keep all 3. Not sure if Galvin will
fill out to play backrow, I know he's still young
but I've heard that he struggles to put on weight.
Either way these are really good headaches to
have. Makasini needs to be kept away from rugby
and other clubs as well, he's a genuine athlete

Galvin will definitely take a little while to fill out but being in the top squad with an elite S&C team should put him in the frame. I think he’s a brilliant half but I look at the Wade Graham’s of the world and just think that’s where his future lies.

totally agree on Makasini, he is elite. very interested to see what the club does in terms of the outside backs, because Bula, Laulili’i, Makasini, L. Fainu and Large for mine are the must keeps, which realistically only leaves 1 spot.

Large was named in a NSW Waratahs academy recently too, so need to try and keep hold of him if we lose Conti to Rugby

Don't like our chances with anasta as the player manager.

Let’s be real , he would be one of the last players they would let go
Well they did let Latu go…. no one saw that coming.

I agree though they rate Olakuatu highly over there and don’t see them letting him go. However, I’d take Jason Saab off them and he’s also very close to Fulton as he brought him over and has connections with some fellow Tigers boys. We need a winger and one with his athleticism and speed would be welcomed.

Manly need to release some players soon - their cap is a mess and I don’t see McDonnell helping much over there next to Seibold. Very ordinary management and they have Isaac Moses having large levels of control over there. They’re doomed. They’d very much let Saab go before Olakuatu.
