Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I've seen him play terrible games in reserve grade but also know on the back of seasons prior he is in our best 17. Also have seen players in FG play terribly multiple times and hold their positions when Laurie was dropped on the back of a poor game and never given another opportunity until recently when all other options were exhausted. We are a club that has to get the best out of our players because we can't attract or replace them like other clubs can. That is poor management by the current coaching team.
Right so he got dropped for a poor game and then continue to play poor in reserve grade but was hard done by not being picked in first grade even though he was playing shit. Give me a break ......

I know we are getting some halfback replacements next year and can only hope one of them turns out to be a playmaker for 80 mins with the balls to lead this team around the park and find points once in the red zone after our pack has done the hard yards ....I hope Brooks has a successful career at Manly because he has had a very good salary for years and never got us in the 8...and please dont give me any excuses such as poor coaching, poor pack etc...we need a playmaker with football smarts in this modern game,NOT a club favourite who doesnt see ressies or the bench in a 10 year tenure...Our youth will develop and I can see hope for us next year if Sheens and Bunji can finally sort out a top squad with good depth and start becoming professional with team selections and forget about the boys club mentality of the past...
I honestly think we have the core of a very good side, this year is a learning curve, next year its put up or shut up,we have been beaten in about half a dozen games this year by one try and have played well while being on the receiving side of some very ordinary ref calls....

HOPE FAITH and LOVE......the greatest of the 3 is LOVE.... God bless all....

If we confirm Sezer & Sullivan plus resign Staines. That's 30 of 30 spots taken.

We must release at least 3 players if not 4. Gotta be Simpkin, Ngatikaura, Mansfield & Nofoaluma.

Surely Simpkin & Ngatikaura get snapped up, there is a hooker shortage in the NRL & ESL.

Justin Olam should be a target & tall, athletic winger*.

2 x backs is all we need. Galvin fills the 4th half spot plus apparently Hawkins (Souths NSW Cup) has signed a train & trial with us.

Squad will be complete IMO.

1. Bula
2. Staines
3. Olam/To'a
4. Tupou (gets the other centre spot for me)
5. * (as above)/Naden
6. Sullivan
7. Sezer
8. Utoiukamanu
9. Korosaui
10. Klemmer
11. Papalii
12. Blore
13. Bateman
14. L. Fainu/Matamua
15. Twal
16. Pole
17. S. Fainu
18. Galvin/Kepaoa/Doueihi (when fit)
People still wanting to put Bateman at 13 .....

Panthers mite tho!
Don't really know his ceiling playing at 6,and it's regrettable he didn't perform in that position until quite recently after we were committed elsewhere
He will be going back to play Reggie’s and to fill in during origin. He is a decent player but he is not the bloke to turn our club around.

I actually think he wild have done better at 6 next year than our recent recruits.,altho the Manly kid mite get him in 2 or 3 yrs
Felt the same about Hastings too..better than what we've got or have bought
Coaching issue

you taking holidays?

He was camped in reserves for weeks behind players not getting results, and depth players selected ahead of him in a team running stone motherless. If that didn't send the message the coach doesn't back you I don't know what does.
His ressie form clearly was no reflection on his ability to play 5/8th in FG and if Sheens had given him a crack earlier he may have solved one the problems he has been trying to resolve all season.

Agree, but if he'd given the 6 role in koe a real crack and stood out he wild have solved everyone's problems, most particularly his own

This guy brought so much excitement for such a short time.

Loved that battle he had with Thaiday I think it was.

Sucked it ended the way it inevitably did.
if memory is correct, after us did a few back playing 4 Foster, then a year at Penrith in Rsv 's.had a relo played 1st G Balmain??? 80;s

Sounds like you are letting what you have read about him off the field overide his on field performance. There was nothing to suggest in his game that he had anything on his mind other than committing to the team and competing to the best of his ability.
The only reason it is too little too late is because of the people in the position to select the best players that will give us a chance of winning didn't give him opportunity. The last two weeks we have actually looked like a footy side and his contribution was as good if not better than every player that was and has been selected before him at 5/8 th this season in attack; defence, and attitude.
More like a pretty justified impression from what information I've had and a subjective view on his ability.

He's acted irresponsibly as a professional athlete; he's young and we all make mistakes.

I don't know him, so can't say what's in his head, but like it or not, no matter how old you are, when you sign with an NRL team you have responsibilities other kids your age don't.

And those include being responsible for the perception the public has of you as a representative of the club. On and off field.

No, I'm not a fan of what he's done off field, but in the grand scheme it's nothing compared to Greg Bird, many others I won't go into.

My view on him as a player is that he was a terrible fullback (I instinctively watch fullbacks more as I played there), hasn't appeared to have a good attitude for years, and is simply not who I would prioritise over other players either in the system, or are coming to the club.

I just don't think he is going to be a consistent, long term, top 8 team quality player, and I'm not upset they're letting him go. Simples.

He was in a match on tv a couple of months ago playing for the Magpies and he was terrible.
The only thing he was interested in was kicking stones just like Mitch Moses.
Well, it seems he kicked enough stones for WT to let him go back to Penrith, which is a shame as he has shown us what he is capable of in the last couple of games.

hope Laurie kicks it back at Penrith,he didnt work 4 us - next,A nice feeling i get is Luai leaves,D L slips straight back in2 being the troublesome larrikin he is

Daine Laurie is, and will always be better than Brandon Wakeham yet the coaches continued to pick Wakeham ahead of Laurie in the halves. Laurie has some X factor about him Wakeham does not and will never have so people who continue to criticise Laurie should be criticising our coach he should’ve been our number six from the start of the season alongside Brooks & I’m sure we would have more wins than we have now. Laurie should have been resigned by our club he could’ve been an ideal utility player on the bench for us next year as you could put him anywhere in the spine even at hooker to give Koroisau a short rest if required.
Maybe he should have started at 6 at the start of the season.

Being a fullback, I hope you tackled better than your name suggests. ;)
