Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

The next Munster, Hughes or Pappenhuyzen and the next JWH, Suaali or Manu will not be produced from the Storm or Roosters' juniors. WTs has every chance of producing a few top line players from our junior ranks. Our strength is the junior districts and we have proven in the past we can produce. This is where we differ from these clubs and we need to continue to improve on the improvements we have already made in our Pathways. We won't buy our way out of the NRL cellar but we can produce the players we need to improve and at the same time deny the top echelon juniors clubs like the Storm and Roosters' require to remain strong.

Our rebuild started years ago with the same problems. It appears that depending on who you favour and who you don't will determine what excuses you will or wont give to those who have failed previously to turn things around, and those who continue to.
It starts and finishes with the quality of the players and we can't compete with clubs that can attract the ones we need. With the same squad if Maguire got these results he would have carried all the blame but Sheens and Benji get a pass because we can't blame another coach because we have to pretend to justify it as a decision to move forward, even though we havnt.
I just think for years we were trying to copy other teams cultures because ours wasn’t built around intestinal fortitude . It just didn’t work , and the players who signed early in 10s like teddy and Moses and co thought they were getting flamboyant , do what you want tigers . But it was poor man’s roosters , and poor man’s Melbourne with a sprinkling of Cleary and potter pissing off our captain at the time .
I know we are losing , but the team seems to actually have harmony , and for the most part want to be here . Most didn’t sign for the money , ala , Canterbury , as Canterbury outbid us on just about every player .
Seriously , with a half who could find in the in goal , and another who could attract defenders , with their running game , we would have won more games than we lost .
Teams just slide off us on their own line , because they don’t believe the ball players are going to offer much . Which is why there’s been so much space for Daine Laurie lately .
They will have to compress a little , of which I bet the dolphins do , and we will have joy on the edge this week .
If that happens I feel it proves my point . Brooks is great in the mid field coming back into tired defenders retreating off a quick play the ball . But close to the line he has zero deception , and is very predictable . And this is from someone who rates brooks .
Even guys like Laurie , cogger , madden offer more deception close to the line . None of which are better footy players , I’m 💯 just taking red zone attack . Which with the way we get down field so quickly and easily , we have to fix . We fix that and this team honestly could be a huge Bolter next year . We repeat this year and it’s spoon time . It’s really that simple IMO .

Good post, we are the worst team in the attacking opposition red zone and have been unable to capitalise on our field position early in games. The 3 games we won we have scored first. Looking forward to what Sullivan can bring next year with his footwork close to the line. Api should be able to give him that little bit of space! I hope we beat the Fins this week.

Also, I see we are the hot favourites in the TAB betting, at $1.65 v $2.20 head to head, now that’s scary !!!
Those are top4 team odds. I hope the bookies are correct !

I see moments most years where I think we might be on track but to date it seems to all go to crap on the back of dumb decisions at critical times that resets the process and gives people false hope for a quick fix, and or injuries to players where the poor depth of the club is exposed.
I think Api is the best buy the club has made in years and gives us leadership on the field critical for a team to be successful - a the type of player who is needed who ever is the coach. He obviously needs alot more around him but the recruitment and retention problems are real and until the club wins more than they lose the perception that we are career killers will continue to be the clubs biggest barrier.

Have a feeling the club is holding off on announcing Sullivan and Seizer officially until after the Dolphins game. Seems like they're heavily deflated with injuries and I think we're expected to get the win. Introducing those two signings after a win could create some momentum and good media narrative.

Side note: Blore and Twal as our prop rotation coming off the bench is impressing me more by the week. Really hope we keep Blore.

The thing is he played just as well last year when they won very few games. It’s not the pack where we need to invest more.
Great post, and I agree, there are still quite a few here who want to bag our forwards, whilst they could be better, they get us down to the red zone as good as most, but the halves offer nothing once there, and that is a huge problem.
I am willing to bet the forwards go up a level, if they have faith in the halves converting their efforts, all too often their effort is for nothing., and that can't really inspire you to do it again and again.

💯 I compare his signing with another WT legend from the past - Ellis 💪

Have also proven that we can't provide them with a stable foundation, Or the right senior players to provide them with a system where they're held to professional standards and are accountable...

Also have paid these kids too much time and time again, just to keep them in a poor system.
Koroisau, Bateman, Klemmer and Papali"I' are a fine core of senior players and leaders. There is always room for improvement but it is a good start.

We can look to improve the Pathways initiatives continuously and I have no doubt the staff are working hard towards this goal.

Finally, the market determines the price you pay for players.. You hope retaining juniors is cheaper than going to market.

I like him eh. I’d take him EASILY over Bulldogs Thompson.

Runs bloody hard.

Luke Thompson is to forwards what Sam Tomkins is to backs - all hype and pathetic.

I remember Sam Tomkins being billed as the next Slater and Thompson being called the next Burgess.

Oh he’s like Burgess - Luke Burgess.

🤢🤮
Dennis Burgess would be an improvement but he is too busy with Wests Tigers Board duties.

Arriba!

Saw this on Facebook. Possibly just a troll with too much time on their hands, but stranger things have happened. Anyone know anything?

This has been further clarified as being reported by Buzz Rothfield. I haven't seen it anywhere, but it is Buzz...take with a pinch of salt I guess.
