OFFICIAL Sheens gone

I really like the idea of Morris coming onboard as an assistant coach, I really wanted him over Maguire. I think that there is actually more at play with this regarding Sheens, it wouldn't surprise me if it was a health issue or wanting to go abroad etc.

Lets be real. Who in their right mind thinks Benji will turn this ship around. I wouldn't be against them sacking him because appointing him in the first place has to be the most incompetent and disrespectful (to the status of the role) decision I've seen. It's so comical its not even funny. The fact NO one could see that a coach like Flanagan would have been perfect for this club is ridiculous, and I largely blame that on Sheens, he seemed mainly in charge of that coaching selection process that occurred, probably saw Flanagan as a threat to his own position in the club and hence jumped on board the 'we need a young coach' train. Like seriously? What on [This word has been automatically removed]in earth about the Wests Tigers in the last 12 years suggests we need a 'young coach'?

Not upset he’s gone, but another example of the poor decision making by management, Their new narrative, it was all Sheen’s fault, let’s move on. Next year it will be Benji. When will it be management, they are the clowns that agreed with the Sheen’s & Benji plan, can’t see any other club doing something similar.

So how do we get rid of the Management?

Start another petition?

If we put two and two together and based on reports advising Sheens initiated this by stating he’s had enough, there is likely a little bit of truth behind previous rumours that Sheens and Benji have had differences of opinion on certain coaching and recruitment matters.
That would just be normal for a team running last in any case, but moving forward we have already put our eggs into Benji’s basket, so why not let him run his own race and make his own decisions to see if that helps us improve.
This could well be correct but what if it doesnt? It could be 3 coaches gone within 2 years.
Who would be silly enough to take us on the year after? It''l be another promotion from within. How are reggies doing this year? 7 wins....

Yeah just so I am clear, we are considering moving on from the guy who

1) Advised us to sack Madge
2) Made a call that influenced our first wooden spoon
3) Coached us personally to a second consecutive wooden spoon
4) Failed to land an experienced NRL halfback despite having a million bucks to throw around all year
5) Failed to retain Luke Brooks who was a key component of their ongoing halves strategy

And some people are upset? Of course for "keeping up appearances" you'd want everything to go to plan, i.e. the 2022 plan, but there's a more valid argument that reality tells you the plan is not trending in the right direction and a change should be made.

Why is anyone upset by this? Sheens advised us to sack our coach, we were not travelling well 2022 but imploded after that decision was made, and we've made basically no improvement in the following 12 months. It's entirely reasonable that Sheens takes a bullet for this.

But also, according to the SMH update, Sheens' management also reached out to Tigers to discuss an early exit.

I can empathise with the disappointment that the decision makers who appointed sheens have no accountability

The club will never have any real success ( run of finals appearances) until there is change in the decision makers,,, but I continue to have zero optimism this will happen in the next 5 years

So those arguing for Sheens retention next year . … is he just the ”figurehead” coach or not?
Not sure figure head is the right word but certainly more advisory than coach. What Sheens brought to the table was stability & strength in dealing with the refs balls ups & the media tools which Benji might lack a this point. It lets Benj learn his craft while not having to deal with all that crap. Also Sheens was planning for the future by planning pathways for the juniors & securing our best juniors before the Rorters poach them. If Sheens is gone, we will go backwards.

I agree. You and I and only a few others were not happy when he was appointed as coach. Most were prepared to get on board straight away.
That said, we needed stability to try and steady the ship and bring some of the youth through.

If you were the parent of some of these gun 19-21 year olds we have would you be content that the experienced bloke has gone only a year into a 5 year plan? The guy who has said all along that 2025 is the goal, where he will have these guys becoming regulars as he bloods them slowly throughout next year? Now he leaves it in the hands of an impulsive, off the cuff ex player whose only first grade experience as a coach is this year's spoon?
I know what Id be doing.

Which is why Benji needs a very experienced coach to help him who is familiar with the modern game (not Sheens),Morris would be my choice ahead of Hasler because he has been out of the game for a little longer.Whoever it is who assists him they need to be told that it is Benji's team for the future and they are there to guide him

Agreed. If they were going behind Sheens' back already, bringing in a rookie coach allows them to do this with even less resistance.

They keep saying they have nothing to do with the football department but keep knifing the football department and don't realise they're doing it.

Let’s wait and see what happens,,, the media is saying that he may still have a role with the club pathways …

Sheens should never have been reappointed the Coach and the team has gone backwards this season…

It has been updated since the original article:

The Wests Tigers are set to drop a bombshell barely one season into the club’s five-year plan, calling time on Tim Sheens’ tenure as head coach.

The Tigers have responded to concerns raised by key stakeholders within the club and the sport by significantly reducing the role of the 2005 premiership-winning coach.

It is expected Sheens won’t coach next year, nor will he return to the general manager role which he assumed before taking on the job as Michael Maguire’s successor this year.

Sheens has given the club his blessing for Benji Marshall to take over as coach but had expectations that he would return to his administration role.

The club is expected to keep him around in an ambassador and mentoring role if he wants to continue.

The Tigers have been mulling over the decision for weeks but it was made easier over the weekend when Sheens’ management contacted the club to inform them that Sheens had had enough.

Sheens was meant to be head coach for two years and help transition Marshall into a top-line coach in time for him to take complete control of the team in 2025.

Club chairman Lee Hagipantelis said conversations were ongoing.

“It is indeed regrettable that I find myself having to speak of these matters publicly,” he told this masthead. “But there have been internal discussions about expediting the transition of Benji into the head coaching role which is something that was always contemplated within that two-year transition period.

“These discussions emanated from a conversation with Tim’s management only very recently. The discussions continue and nothing has been resolved as yet.”

Sheens’ power at the club has been diluted significantly over the course of the year with one club insider telling this masthead that Sheens had very little input for the club’s last game against the Warriors in New Zealand.

This masthead has been told that Sheens hasn’t been seen at the club’s Concord headquarters for the past couple of days. Club powerbrokers have held a series of meetings over the past 48 hours to reach the decision.

Marshall will now have complete control of the team and is contracted until the end of 2027.
Sheens has been contacted for comment.
What this whole shambles really exposes is that over the past decade the club has never really had a long term plan to improve the team's fortunes on the field. Firstly they replaced Madge, which I can't really complain about, having steered the team from 9th to 11th to 13th and a only couple of wins midway through the season in which he was sacked. But they sacked him without a replacement! That is just inept. Then they publicly go after Ciraldo with the narrative of a young up and coming coach, a development club, etc. But then he rejects the club's approach and leaves them holding nothing but their d#cks in their hands. So then they switch the narrative to "Tigers DNA", go back to Tim Sheens and a succession plan that involves a champion ex player - one of the greats of his generation - who has never held a clipboard at any level. Wayne Pearce was a champion player, Terry Lamb was a champion player, Brad Fittler was a champion player. None of them made it as NRL coaches becasue they just did not have the miles in the legs as a coach. I hope Benji makes it, but history would suggest it more likely ends in tears.
And don't get me started on Tigers DNA. Apart from the lightning strike of 2005 it has been an underperforming club since inception. Tigers DNA is not Winning DNA. Replacing Madge, they should have gone after a coach that was a proven winner, and the only one available at that time as a free agent was Flanagan. The board should have held its' nose and locked him in before moving on Madge. I am sure Justin Pascoe and Lee H try their best and don't deliberately set out to sabotage the clubs' on field prospects, but the outcome of decisions they have made and calls they got horribly wrong have anchored Wests Tigers to the bottom of the ladder. Yes, it will be a carve up on 360 tonight, and Hooper will wind up again with the whole PaddlePop lion thing and we will all complain that they unfairly target the club, etc. but it is hard to argue with their central arguement. Wests Tigers are a poorly run club, they react rather than control and don't have a clear plan that leadership is commited to.

They haven’t worked out that “hope isn’t a plan”…

They make decision A thinking that B and C will automatically flow through but they need to be locking in B and C before executing A…

I was at the Cowboys game at Leichhardt standing right behind our players area and was highly impressed with the actions and demeanour of both Farah and Marshall.
They watched the Flegg played prior to the NRL game, both had constant positive interactions with our Flegg players and once our NRL players arrived both had constant positive interactions with them also.
In addition to this both had plenty of time to talk with our fans and Farah was then actively involved in our NRL warm up after having a deep discussion with Benji which I would assume was in relation to the warm up, but also pre game instructions to our players.
I don’t know why it has gone so pear shaped since, but the pre game positivity from Farah and Marshall definitely has a major influence in that great result against the Cowboys at Leichhardt.

From a CEO and Board point of view, they cannot please the majority of fans no matter what they do.
No fan is happy with the team sitting last on the ladder for the second straight season, so obviously something had to change.
If we kept the same coaching structure many fans would not be happy, now they have decided to shake up the coaching structure many fans are still not happy.
If they wanted to please the majority Bandeli and his puppet board could stand down.
