Luke Brooks #167

What Brooks said was quite PG rated.
I’d like to see him get upset at the backlash and actually expose the clubs way of operating. It is possible the players are total mushrooms, but surely one like him who has been around so long knows a fair bit.
I remember when Anasta came out and exposed how poorly run the joint is I.e. players buying their own tape and stuff and the fans hammered him. The point he was making was and still is serious.
Anasta is correct, The Club is very poorly Run.

Stupid in PR, Business, Coaching and recruitment

No one has nice things to say after their stint here, They always have a sour taste.

Rarely wrong, sometimes right my man lol
What is your reasoning?
For mine, I look at the new recruits and wonder what we can get out of them. A guy flopping about in England the past 4 years, an injury prone reserve grader from a club just as poor as us and an overhyped kid who hasn’t done anything yet. Don’t get me wrong, they may galvanise and form a kick arse halves combo. They may also form a combo no better than Wakeham/Brooks. Additionally, they will be feeding a backline, unchanged at the moment, who are inconsistent and often useless, certainly the squad’s weak link.

Most of our best players in this 2023 squad were all forward imports this year. They come from a variety of winning cultures where hard work and graft is rewarded. They busted their backsides this year for 3 wins. That has to affect you mentally. Will they back up next year? They’ve gotten older, will the injury gods hammer them? They will possibly lose depth as well. Can the young guns only just starting their grade careers step up?

Bula has been a revelation this year. Will second year syndrome develop in him? He has a lot to learn still, who is mentoring him? Are our new coaching appointments up to the task? Can we attract anymore marquee players and or staff? Will the departures this year of experienced players and staff negatively affect the squad? Will the continued media scrutiny negatively affect our retention strategies of identified pathways talent? Will the continued bad press and indecisive nature of our administration negatively affect our commercial arrangements, including free to air telecasting and new sponsorships? Back to back spoons are almost guaranteed, how will this affect the club?

You can state we’ll be better next year to your hearts content. I’ve heard it all before and watched it proven wrong so many times in this clubs history, that I will maintain a very healthy scepticism until some huge changes are made.

I have to get back to you. Can't read that right now

Yeah but this has always been the case.
He has never had a voice, never said inspiring things, never shown leadership qualities, always gave the impression he’d struggle organising a root in a brothel and always seemed to be of low intellect…yet year after year after year he was trusted to bring us up the ladder.
I’m glad he gave the club a whack…they deserve it.
Your as Dumb as he is.

They hired Anasta. He took the money, didn't perform and has belitted the club ever since. I wouldn't pay him much attention.

Agree to a certain point.

The club was even worse back then.
Im no Anasta fan either but he is doing OK and appears to be well regarded in the NRL community

Regardless of peoples opinion of Brooks as a player, I'm not really sure what part of anything he said wasn't true.
I don’t understand the criticism of his public footy persona? It’s clear that those who show hatred toward him don’t really know him, so how does he have that influence over people?

Because the club has supported him through thick and thin on huge contracts when he has not even been mediocre. Then he has the hide to act disrespectful and jab the club on his way out. I’m so glad he’s going.

Get rid of Noffa and the last of the old boys club in the team is gone.

They should be more angry at the club than him.
He doesn’t perform team selections.
He doesn’t appoint himself captain.
Sure he doesn’t perform real often but again…whose fault is it he keeps playing the same way?

Anasta was recrutied by Sheens to play 6, but the club sacked Sheens soon after he arrived and the new coach moved him to the back row. He was obviously also disappointed with the Gatorade rationing. 😂
I’ll dovetail a Brooks comment if I may? Anyone notice that we see the real Brooksy when the time is right?
its a cultural thing, the discretionary effort is not there from a lot of players. I find it difficult to be too critical of them reacting to circumstances.

I thought he was respectful and mindful of not saying too much?
Do we see players at other clubs slamming the door on their way out? We need to ask..why are so many doing it at the mighty tigers?

Brooks shoots his mouth off and gets punted.
Now he gets to slink off and prepare for his time at Manly/Blacktown.
Manly will have no problem dropping a cut price veteran.
I doubt they stump up $3m for a Blacktown half. No..he’s the DCE replacement. The Brooks they signed was the one we saw in round 9 against the Panthers, and again a couple of games later another master class against Cowboys for his 200th, to show Manly he’s worth the money. I absolutely hate our players joining other clubs and playing better. The club needs to put a stop to it.

The thing that surprises me is a 200 game NRL halfback is wanting to play with someone 'to take the pressure off'. That just seems a really weak mindset. Players like dce, Mitchell, Cleary, luai, Munster, Walker, Walsh, Reynolds seem desperate for the ball and the spotlight, brooks is just not like that. I think he'll find a huge amount of pressure there too. This is the NRL, you can't be scared of pressure.

The other thing that is pretty depressing is his list of highlights he mentioned, with the cowboys game earlier in the year being one of the biggest. He's just done absolutely nothing of note here. Not all his fault, but how strange to have such a barren run and to have so little to show on the field for such a long career...just a few fun regular season wins of no consequence to anything.

Last thing is that brooks comes from a generation of players in Woods, Moses and Tedesco who never had any sense of connection or commitment to the club. That's not necessarily the fault of the players but seeing such apathy from juniors is an interesting shift in the mentality of footballers. I don't like them. Brooks re-signed last time, but with players like Robbie, senter, heigno, Gibbs and even Joe O it felt like there was much greater passion for the club.
