Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sorry to bug you teddy but did you get any update on Sezer?
Seizer pretty much done - for some reason when it relates to SL players getting a deal done includes some extra processes. He should be announced soon. Bateman apparently was active in the recruitment process and sold the vision to Seizer.

I also asked about Xavier Wilson - he hasn't heard anything but did admit would be a fantastic signing. Big expectations for that kid.

Thanks for that update, I wouldn't have thought we'd have to upsell to Seizer to get him here - a contract should've been sufficient. Any news on Stains?

I agree but we are talking about first grade players. I they can't tackle of pass how did they get to this level ?
It was a little tounge and cheek. I’d like to think tigers are doing video sessions but would not be surprised if we are not. Our squad is slowly improving with the right type of player.

No you'd have about 30 dollars max.

Let's not do the boring thing again but there are hundreds of Tigers players let go over the decades and most of them go on to nothing. Tigers aren't complete mugs, the main issue for Tigers is getting quality players in, not keeping the quality players we have.

Aside from the Tedesco / Woods / Moses year, most players that we really want, once they are here, stay on. That is true for most clubs.
The players who we wanted to keep but left is one thing (I would add Ryan Matterson to that list - ordinary bloke, good player), the other is the players we didn't rate who we should have and could have kept - JAC, Koroibiti, Pappenhausen, Fifita, Heighington, Austin, Curtis Sironen. Taupau as well, although not sure if wanted to leave or the club didn't want to keep him.
Having said that, every club has a ton of similar screw ups - Bulldogs with JT, Newcastle with Latrelle, Brisbane with Cameron Smith

Bateman wasn't instructed to make any calls - he purely did it on his own accord to further sell the vision to ensure Seizer signs as they have experience playing next to each other in the line.

As much as people might overlook Seizer as a signing he's potentially our most important player in 2024 next to Api. What Seizer brings is exactly what we've lacked all year and what we've tried turning Brooks into for nearly 8 years which is a game managing 7 who can help guide Bula/Sullivan/Fainu all livewire players with some much-needed control next to them.

Api helps with control within the ruck, however in terms of our execution by completing our sets we need some help and Seizer does that better than most. He isn't necessarily the strongest runner of the footballer but his game management is why the Raiders went all the way to the GF in his last year. I think he'll give us some much-needed help in 2024 and I'm excited to see it happen.

In regards to Staines - I don't know too much, unfortunately.

Where did this come from?

That is Simon Dwyer & that young girl in the coaches' box's job, video analysis and providing a video dossier on all teams prior to playing them. There was a story on it somewhere.
A good halfback should be doing their own video analysis. Maybe they do it with the coaching staff, but they should be an active participant, not just rely on a manilla folder with sticky notes pushed under their door before the game.

Had a bit of a look back through the posts of some of our ITKs in recent months to see who is/has been on our radar.

Obviously sorting out our halves has been priority but other consistent themes are an elite-level outside back & young, high leg speed, PCM forward.

Asst Coach targets - John Morris, Paul McGregor (Jul/Aug)
Free to depart - Nofa, Simpkin, Kepaoa, Rua (Aug)
Extension focus - Blore & Staines (Aug)
Halves - Sezer 1+1 (Jul/Aug), Deah Hawkins for train & trial (Jul), Ezra Mam for ‘25 (Mar)
Centres - Best & Olam (Aug), Talakia (Jul)
Other OBs - Meaney for ’25 (Aug), Bevan French (Jul), Weekes (Mar & Jul), David Fusitu'a (Jan)
Forwards - Kulikefu Finefeuiaki of the Cowboys, eye on Luki (Aug), Willison (Aug)

I may have missed some & haven’t included targets that have resigned with their club or elsewhere.

Matterson is a decent bloke I’ve met him a few times always very welcoming - however, if we’re purely going towards as a rugby league player he lacks loyalty he was just looking for a reason to get out of his deal when a better $ opportunity came from Parra so I wouldn’t put too much blame on the club in regards to him but everything else mentioned is a very valid.

Matterson’s main goal in rugby league is to make as much money as he possibly can so he can retire early - that’s not an opinion it’s come from his mouth to myself. Hence why the bloke took a 4 game ban over a fine….. getting constant head knocks and worrying about your long term health could scare a few. Putting myself in his shoes, can you blame him.

Every half at every club except ours would do that, it's part of behaving like a professional.
Andrew and Matty Johns could still tell you the strengths and weaknesses of every player they played against.
Brooks has done the bare minimum of his job requirements his whole career.

I reckon Seizer is an OK signing. A bit like a poor man's Adam Reynolds in some ways. He may not have dancing feet, blinding speed or a flash of brilliance, but like Reynolds he will be a good game manager, has a good kicking game and will be a cool head in situations that require it. If you think about how many games the Tigers have been in where the game was anyones going into the last 10 minutes, or where we lost concentration in the 3 minutes either side of half time and conceded a couple of tries, Seizer will provide some much needed experience and game management in those situations. Api can't do that all by himself. I reckon Seizer will make Api even better, and probably gets the best out of Bateman as well. Not a bad signing for 2 years at the right money, particularly while young halves come through and learn the trade of week in week out NRL first grade.

Neck up idiot - I've forgotten more about football than you know...

How many press conferences you watched?
- I've seen a few, Also seen plenty of players over the years mention the video session they do on the opposition - As a team.... With the coaches..... Every Week!!
Discussing potential weaknesses or strengths - As a team.
That is re-iterated on a tip sheet...

Been that way for a very long time.
"We've done our video on them and picked up areas we think we can expose them" Surely you've heard it?

Brooks mentioned they (Or he) hadn't done video on the opposition.
Or more so - That he didn't watch their last game... Which would (And has been) assumed as one and the same.

Neck up 4 what. I live in burwood 200m from
CoE I've been knowing a few juniors. IDGAF
about your press conferences. Everything else
You said I clocked out. Go take a lap my boy

No I can't really blame him. It's why most of us go to work. I don't have 20,000 season ticket holder watching me though...

High praise indeed Merv!
