Benji is next man up.
I’ll suggest he is sacked in 2025.
Sheens has successfully navigated us to successive spoons, and the sooner we get rid of him the better. Its no surprise that he has been punted from his last 4 coaching jobs(including WTs..twice)
So he chosen Benji as next man up ..personally I dont see many of the attributes in Benji that make for a great coach, but he gets an opportunity in 24 and watch and wait..just dont hold yr breath
In hindsight Flanagan shld have been the chosen one at end 2021...

I agree with all of this with the caveat that Benji was heavily involved in this years spoon.

Hiring Sheens
Getting rid of Hastings
Nofo 5 years @$500k

Right decisions?
Hiring Sheens 100% right decision. Has done wonders in pathways which we see the benefit of in the future. He walked because the DS management were undermining him . Our loss.

Letting go of Hastings a mistake. We finally had s controlling half . Playing Hastings at 13( but really playing 1/2) & having Brooks & Doughie running 5/8s on boyhs sides of the ruck was a winning formula .
Nofa on 500k a bit questionable. Maybe slightly overpaid .

I have edited my comment about Sheens to state Hired as Head Coach last year, which was my intention

Due to circumstances i think it was the right thing to do IF they are going to stick with Benji. I think Benji was undercooked(and probably still is a bit) and needed an experienced figurehead to take the bullets.
That being said , i think Maguire should of been given more time because he spent the first two years fixing up the crap Clearly left him with.

Both Hastings and Wakeham were very bad decisions, too slow in the attack, with zero chance to fool any defender except Nofoaluma, and their long/short kicking game are awful at best.
Their defence was better then Nofoaluma's but all of them would lead the competition for the NRL's worst defenders.
Hastings and Wakeham were never the answer for our HB, they are with Brooks the worst HBs in the NRL. Somehow we managed to get all three!🤔😢
There was no Wakeham until Hastings was gone and they couldn't get anyone else. Hastings should have been kept at 7 and - Brooks now a running 5/8th not a halfback - would have been able to play with no pressure just like he apparently has always wanted.

Yep,but were morally(and contractually!)obliged to give him every chance...but need to see some smarts and accompanying green shoots in 24..still shaking my head how much vino at Grappa lead us down this path...

Shane Flanagan is a flog who I would have HATED to have as our coach. The punishment for his systemic cheating of the game should never be forgotten so long as he is involved in rugby league. Not to mention that it is possible that his drug system led to the early demise of Johnny Mannah. RIP.

What seems a given to me is that fir whatever reason we just don’t seem like a coaching team working together on the same page. So until that happens we’re going nowhere.
We need Benji to recruit some experienced assistants to help him with the detailed development of our systems in A and D. That team of coaches would hopefully get our squad moving in the right direction and build on our roster.
I think next season will be tough but we have to stick to the plan and cop the rough ride.

There are 2 types of people in Australia. Those who have been sacked by Wests Tigers and are wearing it like a meritorious badge of honour, and there are those who have been sacked by Wests Tigers and broken by the experience. Is there a club which doesn’t have explayers, coaches or admin staff who’ve been ‘developed‘ by WT?

Sacking Sheens, right decision?

This club seems to do eveything without much thought

I think Tim Sheens was elected to this coaching gig without thought ( even by himself) as now he seems to have lost everything, now I believe he has no job at WT's at all

That seems odd, of course unless he is happy about that which he may well be, maybe he too is happy to desert the "sinking ship" It's a tough club to be at, a fan of, a supporter of or a member of.

I hope I'm wrong but I don't think Benji will be our saviour either, we know he loves the club but I don't think that's enough. I think he believes that he can change things here, but others before him haven't been able to do so

In all of this as nothing changes at the top, but everyone else gets the sack or is not re signed, or let go, still nothing changes on the playing field does anyone else think this is highly odd!!

Good luck Benji

This didn't work so was therefore the wrong decision but to be fair we were a mess even though it was our fault. Sheens was talking up Ciraldo and a development coach which was typically corporate dribble talk. Then when we couldn't get him we created a crazy plan that hasn't work out so far.

This appointment was a public image decision that lasted as long as it probably should have.

I'm not sure. Hastings isn't very good. I think he gets talked up as a proxy for talking about Brooks who I think is a lot better than Hastings. I don't see this as a big loss at all. Sure we lacked depth but I think Madden was just as big a loss as Hastings in relation to depth.

I think next season we have two guys that have potential to be good halves. It's going to be rough but I prefer those halves to the guys we've had the past couple of seasons.
The Knights are higher than us on the ladder arent they ! They do have Hastings in that team.
However we all know that a team needs more than one player in it

On this forum we have several frequently cited coaches: Sheens, Gould and Bennett.
They are all similar age:
WB 73 yo
TS 72 yo
PG 65 yo

If the age is the criteria (ageism ?) does it mean they:
- are all past it?
- the ones I like are perfectly OK, but the ones I do not like "lost their marbles"?
- or the age is irrelevant, other qualities are much more important?
Exactly.
Stereotyping by age is ignorant.
Criticize their decisions but constantly bringing age into it is as relevant as bringing hair colour up.

Loved the way Benji put that peanut reporter in his place, Madge would've kissed the bloke. Benji will turn it around mark my words, he has a winners mentality unlike previous clowns.

I reckon he stuffed up there. He should have showed better manners and been respectful. I can see the positive in that he is a loony tunes and we might need that but I think he should be working on how he presents himself.

He made a key point though - winning stops all the noise. They need results.
