The way I see it is what type of coach you have is important of course- but he can only work with the players he has. A poor coach will get 50% out if his team for most of the time, a good one maybe 80%. A great one 95% most of the season and a super coach 110% for nearly every game. In the end however the outcome is dependent on the roster, take Bennett or Robo this season for example.
We could have had the best coach on earth with our current roster and the injuries etc and we maybe would have pinched a few more wins.
Until we have a team full of high achieving players who do the simple basic things at 100% every week and don’t make rookie errors and then add some elite guys who can turn a game in key positions it won’t matter who the coach is. We won’t compete with the best week in week out.
The key has to be to identify and train the young ones coming through and to recruit only winners and leaders when we can get them. Keep building the culture of effort so that when players do come they understand what they must do every day at this club. This is what the top clubs do.

I reckon he stuffed up there. He should have showed better manners and been respectful. I can see the positive in that he is a loony tunes and we might need that but I think he should be working on how he presents himself.

He made a key point though - winning stops all the noise. They need results.
No he did the right thing calling out an obvious shit stirrer who's only research was reading headlines.
You hold these vermin to account and they're not so quick with the smartarse questions the next time.
He was very respectful to all those who conducted themselves like journalists

I disagree but it's cool. To me he lost his crap and that isn't tough it's weak.

I know I'm in the minority on this one but I voted no for two reasons.
1. On face value Sheens came to the club and requested a release. So in principle he wasn't sacked.
2. If he was tapped on the shoulder, and they have created the release story, he has done the job he was tasked with: protecting and developing Benji.

I get that the results haven't come and like everyone else I have not been happy with many if his decisions. I wasn't happy with his appointment either, but that is crying over spilt milk.

My expectation is that like many coaches before, Tim and Benji put their eggs in the turning Brooks around basket. They also backed AD as the 5/8.

Like Sheens, half this forum had AD as the clubs future captain and the man to build around.

The Brooks/AD decision was flawed and it has been our Achilles heel all year. You can add the Hastings release into that same decion set.

I do thank him for realising his mistake and providing us with a development path, some educated recruitment and, for the first time in years, some optimism for 2024.

Tim has got us heading in the right direction for the first time in a number of years. Sure the table doesn't reflect it but a lot of foundational things are going well or "are developing" rapidly.

If it is as reported and Benji has the players believing in the direction we are headed then the first part of being a new head coach has been cracked. We have an agreed and single vision for where we are going. I think Api's extension reflects this.

I don't think that anyone denies thst Benji requires coaching support. However, he demonstrated he is not afraid of the media and is prepared to take them on. He is media savvy and I think he has the ability to handle that aspect.

I expect that Sheens has seen enough to know what Benji needs as a coach in the development sense and will have a plan in place to provide that support. He won't want his legacy to be continued failure. He is bowing out on his terms for a reason.

I realise that the situation is not all unicorns and fairies. Sullivan and Latu are, in my opinion, an educated decision. That decision comes with a lot of risk though. If Sezer is in that mix I think he provides a level of mitigation. Not the marquee player we need but the player with the required skills that we could get.

It is a plan that may not survive first contact, but it is a plan, that shows a clear intent and a well reasoned strategy to remediate our biggest deficiency.

We will just have wait and see if Tim's legacy in relation to our direction and halves selection is classed as a brilliant decision, an educated decision or an unmitigated disaster. Time will tell, but whatever the result, there is a well reasoned plan behind it.

We aren't going to win the comp but Benji could up there for Rookie of the year based on the work Tim has done to set us up.

The reporter had not done any prep and was trying to bait him. He handled it well.Do you think any of the journos will be wanting to be made a fool of in front of their peersin the future?

It was a good first outing and he demonstrated that he can be prickly if required. He can be nice now that he has set the ground rules.

He wasn’t sacked.
He doesn’t collect $200 for going past go next year.

He took one for the team & ran out of puff.

Fair play to Sheens for calling it, majority of other coaches would’ve stuck it out until being sacked to get a pay check.

Hope he stays involved in some way.

Is it a bad look, yes for sure.
Is Benji ready, doubt it but time will tell.
Just hope we stick to the 3-4yrs of what next and see it out for a change.

It’s not like those coaches who serve an apprenticeship deliver success majority of the time anyway. Fitzy who has had the shortest coaching apprenticeship has had the best record of late. Not saying any of these over time won’t be a long term success but it’s clear having a long apprenticeship isn’t a sure fire to success to start their coaching careers

Many viewed Payten coach of the year last year, year before he won 29% (7W/17L) of games, this year has struggled. He was a coach for 8yrs or so before his NRL call-up at the Warriors initially.

O’Brien had over 11 years apprenticeship in the Storm & Roosters systems. He won 6 of 18 last year, before that was a 40-50% year on year coach. This year because of a 6 match hot streak late in the year his fortunes have changed

Holbrook in various nrl systems and started head coach in ESL with an 80% win ratio over 87 games which is nothing short of outstanding. Comes to the NRL and hits 37% over 81 games (similar game count to his ESL career).

Ciraldo started coaching junior ranks at the Panthers in 2014 and look at how he has struggled at the Bulldogs in his 1st year.

Webster has been coaching since 05 and has done a great job this year at the Warriors he is actually a blip for rookie coaches based on history, will be interesting how season 2 and 3 fair but before this year he had around 18yrs of coaching under his belt - most of any of the names above that have debuted recently.

Demetriou started coaching in 2011, handed a brilliant squad and has performed ok at 57% but this year on the cusp of not playing finals 2nd year in.

Fitzgibbon started in 2015 in reps (part time) and moved into the Roosters before hitting the Sharks and is running at 65% win record. He actually has the shortest fulltime coaching career of all names above.

Hiring him was the wrong decision. I honestly don't know what right or wrong is with this club anymore..
