Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

What I found beyond belief about that - is the team doesn’t do video on the opposition…

That’s on the coaches and our culture…
Unsure.

Honestly where we are at I wouldn't focus on opposition videos and focus internally on the team:
Tackling
Defensive structures.
Set plays (Sheens? where are your AWESOME set plays...?)

Were not right, we need to get us right.

Ofcourse once that is done, you can get team footage and cover "hey that winger is a little slow, lets give them a few kick chaises." or "that forward has a loose carry". But you keep it super simple.

I like our early game where we worked out Chris Lawrence was Faster then Billy Slater. Because Slater thought he could catch him, we just put Lawrence in the open and Burned Melbourne.

Hello!
You know it's not 1973 watching Rex Mossop's 1 hour replay on a Sunday night right?
Have you heard of Foxtel and Kayo. I'm not sure if you've heard but you can actually watch any game on demand now.
Big shock right?
It's an amazing world.
Final proof that Brooks' cult will say anything to defend him.
Hi,
Yes, you can watch any game on demand but once Monday morning roles around is there any point for a footballer watching games that doesn't involve their upcoming opponents?
Also, they've played and possibly watched a few other games that weekend. Then gone to training and done a video review of their game. Then gone to training the next day and done a video session of their upcoming opponent.
How many players would be then likely to go home and watch more games of a team they are not about to play, and how would it really help them for their upcoming game if they did?
My comments are less about defending Brooks, whom yes I do believe has said little wrong despite the outrage on here, and more about trying to understand the expectations of all those outraged.

My expectation is that on the Thursday before the game he would know everything about his opposition because he's watched them play. He said he hadn't seen much of them and didn't know much about how they play.
That's not how winners operate.
I'm surprised anyone would find that acceptable.

Except he didn't say that he didn't know much about how they play. You have inferred that from him saying he hasn't watched much of them. It was a simple answer to a simple question. It does not suggest he doesn't know much about them. It doesn't suggest that they haven't got a game plan specific to the Dolphins. It doesn't suggest the team haven't done the necessary video sessions and it doesn't suggest he has not been prepared. It doesnt say anything more than he hasn't watched a whole lot of their games.

I have a similar expectation that on Thursday he/the team would have identified a few defensive weaknesses and trained how they intend to exploit them and a few attacking patterns and trained how they intend to defend them.

I don't expect them to sit watching endless replays of them and I don't think that doing so would help.

Talking out your donut again. Madge didn't watch.
They all do video sessions & have ipads.
Who chooses to watch what is up to them...
Cmon, Madge doesn't need to record his games.

Same game
Same game plan.
Same tactics and same responses. For 4 years.

For all of Sheens's faults, when he failed he failed differently.

Thank god we fired this one eyed wonder.

I know a lot won't feel the same but I'm actually really excited by Benji taking over the role. It is such a hail Mary. It will probably be a disaster or we are watching the start of the content for a documentary series...but not Tales From Tigertown.
Im pleased to see someone else is happy about Benji taking over, personally I feel great we have him.
A man who gave everything he had to give to the West Tigers in his playing days.

And now is willing to give whatever he possibly can towards bringing some glory back to a team he loves By coaching the team, I wish him all the very best with what he is trying to acheive, and I think next year will be far better than this year, and 2025 will see him get the team in the finals,

Pity there isnt more of WTF members willing to give Benji the benefit of the doubt.

The general opinion seems to be that a high amount of members already want a new coach, come on give him a go.

Update:

- Bradman Best and Justin Olam are two names being thrown around. Benji is a big fan of either prospect. The belief from Bradman Best's camp is they're hoping for 800k which has turned us off a little, will still be discussions heading into November 1st.

- The club are in discussions with Kulikefu Finefeuiaki's from the Cowboys management team to bring him over in 2024, as the Cowboys have invested heavily in the second row position with Leilua and Nanai combining for $1.5 million and are clearing cap space for Dearden as Titans are circling. The club also have an eye on Helium Luki as there's some noise he may request a release soon. Cowboys hoping to keep both players but may be an uphill battle.

- I posted a while ago that Franklin Pele's management had approached us to gauge interest, then a couple of days later he signed with Hull FC. I was told we had rejected him and choose to priotitise Pole, Twal and Blore as potential bench props in 2024 along with our juniors coming through. I believe the club are looking to bring Pole off the bench as an impact prop similar to Spencer Leniu in 2024.

- Matt Moylan hasn't been in negotiations with the club and will not be pursued, the belief is Cronulla are shopping him to Super League and he'll be there in 2024.

- The club have turned there attention fully towards John Morris as an assistant coach option, I posted that it was between Holbrook and Morris about a month ago. Holbrook rejecting us has now led a clear path to who the club would like as our assistant coach in 2024. Benji and Farah playing a big role. However, reports are John Morris is enjoying his time at Rabbitohs and will not be an easy pursuit. Could go either way.

- Nick Meaney will be targeted once the November 1st deadline approaches.

- Junior Tupou is currently undergoing negotiations to stay at the club with early positive signs, however there's belief he may test his value come November 1st and he won't be short of suitors. Melbourne and Newcastle seen as a strong possibilities.

- Blore seems set to re-sign at the club on a 2 year deal, the club have apparently fully backflipped and will offer him an extension if all goes well once the season is complete. My source has been pretty strong on Blore remaining from day 1 but always a little hesitant, he reckons it's now imminent barring anything last minute.

- Lastly, I didn't get much info on the Sheens situation besides that has been tension with Sheens and the front office ever since McDonnell was sacked behind his back and Sheens standing down wasn't a shock at all. However, the club are fully committed to Benji and have complete trust he can do the job. There was a report that Benji is the next target to be axed and that couldn't be further from the truth. Benji has complete control over all football operations and apparently all parties involved coaches, players and board all believe it's the right move. Expect a statement backing Benji if those reports continue... maybe even potential legal actions which Pascoe/Lee are contemplating.

Hope you guys enjoy - sorry for the delay.
I wonder if the rumoured interest from the Storm in both Tupou & Kepaoa could result in something of a swap deal for Olam & Meaney?

I'd be looking at Ieremia from the Storm as well.

Interesting that we show interest in 3 backrowers of almost identical playing styles in Luki, Finefeuiaki & Manly's Olakau'atu. Big, rangy wide runners. Along with Samuela Fainu. We definately lack that athletic wide runner. But at what expense? Which forward misses out?
