John Morris joins Wests Tigers

Seems like a perfect fit to me. I hope they are tight and on the same page so finally we can get some stability and move forward. This recruitment news should settle down talk of players and their managers agitating about coaching issues at the club.
Now all we need is a couple of quality outside backs and maybe extend Blore, Seyfarth and Staines.

Welcome back Johnny Cronk! 😊

In all seriousness, I think he rejoins the Wests Tigers in a role that he can perform well in. Has the right pedigree and had been working in successful organisations.

If the rumours were true 12 months ago, didn’t we approach him for the head coaching role and he turned us down?

What has changed?

Souths.

We get told what a great coach Demetriou is. Clearly we are seeing results there, this year.

Yet we just saw both assistants quit.

My guess is John Morris learned that Souths is far more a basketcase then we realise. That said, I never heard Morris being mentioned as head coach here from the club and others, only on the forum.

I hope Furner stays on , even if it's just for next year and he does leave because his mate left.
Honestly, what hangs on Sheens hangs on Furner a fair bit too.

He was assistant throughout this time.
Who was in charge of defensive structures and defense coaching? Surely not Benji!

Ill let Benji decide if we keep Furner. Huge questions remain in my mind as to why we haven't succeeded and when I think defensive coaching, I look at Furner with ????

Not being able to score points has been a bigger problem.
Who coached our attack inside opposition 20m?

John Morris coming on board is fantastic news. This time last week many of the negative Nancy’s were saying why would he come to our rubble of a club. Well now he’s here.
It appears David Furner has done a decent job as our defensive coach. Not forgetting he’s also an extremely experienced coach and would be great to hold onto moving forward.
In regards to our attack and struggling to convert into tries when we are in the opponents 20m zone, I believe a consultant coach could really help. Billy Slater mentioned a while back that Jahream Bula is very talented, but mentioned he really hopes Wests Tigers get him the specialist coach he needs to go to the next level. To me that sounded like Billy could be interested, even if he done one day per week he could help our attack immensely.

Kind of poetic with Morris returning just as Sheens, the man who once declared him to be our ‘Cooper Cronk’ like saviour exits. He never turned into Cronk to save us on the field, but maybe he will save us a decade later as our assistant coach. Good signing 👍

Yep - the South's shambles is there for all to see.

Throw in the underperforming Dogs, Dragons, Eels, Roosters, Sea Eagles & Titans and we are in elite company.

But let's step back and review what has just happened:

We signed a couple of young Manly kids, Api re-signs, and Sullivan is on board. Despite all that we get smashed as a basket case yet again. And after Sheens steps down it seems that we are indeed, teetering - especially as Benji seems all at sea in his first Presser. But then we win, albeit in a tight one vs the great Man Bennett. Then we are reminded during that match that over the previous 6 weeks, we have been oh so close in those recent games.

Then Sezer signs and out of the blue, Morris joins us.

None of this accidentally happened. Pascoe to Morris - "Hello Mr Cronk - any chance you'd like to join us at the Balmain basket weavers?" Morris to Pascoe "Gee, I dunno Fia, Souths are travelling so well as you know - I'd have to be crazy to leave the burrow." "Free haircuts?" "I'm in"

Clearly, things behind the scenes have been rolling along for some time.

The latest Pascoe Fulton video is a must see - still very clunky, but insightful. Fulton is an odd bird though.

Oh, and Brooks was cooked by getting a BBQ farewell, never to wear our colours again. Best news ever!

Further to my posts weeks ago about what's going on at Souths, latest info is that Mitchell, Cody and Cook are the 3 main offenders in regards to thinking they are entitled to do what they want. They even encouraged Keon to pull out of drills saying "your an origin player now".

Sam ran a wrestling session and Mitchell refused to do it, Sam said "your doing it and I'll wrestle you". Latrell walked off with no repercussions.

Looks like the only hope Souths have next year is either a massive turn around in attitude from Mitchell (unlikely) or they get rid of him and Cody.

Im loving it. They can stick there SSTID up their you know what.

This link is to an interview with Wayne Bennett about the events at South Sydney. Bennett is the ultimate manager of players and coaches. He knows the right words to say and how to say it without offending.

John will be our coach if Benji fails after 2 years , I feel this is a board decision that works for all , Benji runs 2024 / 2025 , then if we have made no improvement , say top 8 , Morris will, take over and Benji will be paid out , club covers itself , I’m ok with this as I feel we can’t keep going on a waiting game over 3 years 5 years , it’s been 10 years of the same shit , I love Benji and hope we climb up that ladder over the next 2 years and he keeps his job

If the club in anyway is thinking like this we are stuffed. Plan for success not failure.

My view is Morris is the exact foil we need to Benji if we want to get the best out of the young guns and we are going all in.

Well said TCL....I think he will be an asset to the club and coaching ranks, good football mind and has experience as well....👍
You don't think he could be classed as in 'the boys club'?

I understand your point when you mention this, nepotism - jobs for the boys - so to speak

I think he's has four year doing apprenticeship bat cronulla and sourhs
