Stefano Utoikamanu #241

I think he was gassed coz, at this stage, he only has a small motor. Sort of like he plays for us, has a dip then sort of disappears then comes back.
I like him but there is plenty of development still to go.
That honestly sucks and reflects badly on us.
Not every player can be a Nathan Hindmarsh or Liam Fulton. But our training should be hard enough to get people firing for 80 minutes minimum.

"Gassed" after 15 minutes. That's on the WT.

Stef only got about 12 or 13 minutes but was hoping he would have made a bit more impact and made every moment count while he was on the field.

Felt that he was very lucky to get a run based on his club form as there were others I would have picked before him.

Freddie has been a fan of his going back to junior rep games and with him being around the SOO camp a couple of times now, I guess it was just a matter of time before Freddie picked him.

With the likelihood of Freddie not having his contract renewed it probably means that Stef won't get another shot at SOO unless he really starts to dominate in club football.

Dunno man, He goes OK....
But is middle of the pack at best for mine...
Out of his depth at Origin.

We just do the WT's overhype a kid that shows a bit of something...
I am also lost as to why Fittler picked him.

Compared to say Jake T or Frizzel or any of those really proven origin forwards. That said Glad he got a run and got the experience.

Tigers youngster speaks on incident with Roosters veteran Waerea-Hargreaves

“He’s a bit of a grub.”

Wests Tigers youngster Stefano Utoikamanu has lifted the lid on his incident with Jared Waerea-Hargreaves last weekend that saw the veteran Rooster suspended by the judiciary.

Aiming to get under Waerea-Hargreaves' skin last weekend, Utoikamanu constantly taunted the veteran about his age after the Wests Tigers believed he delivered a late 'dog shot' to their captain in Apisai Korisau.

Labelling him a "grub", the taunts would work with the veteran headbutting the youngster in a scuffle, which will now see him miss this week against the Rabbitohs and the 2024 season's opener in Las Vegas.

Charged with a striking charge, he will miss an extra three weeks on top of the four weeks he will face for dangerous contact on Koroisau, meaning he will no longer take part in any of the Roosters' games for the remainder of the season and will miss the upcoming Tests for the New Zealand Kiwis.

“I saw him do that hit on Api and I got angry,” Utoikamanu said.

“Api's our captain, and I tried to have his back. I know Jared is a nice bloke off the field, but he's a bit of a grub on the field. I wanted to get into him a bit.

“I might have said something [about his age], calling him ‘old', but I didn't mean it. I tried to get into his head. He split himself because he headbutted my tooth. That's how he got the cut on his head.

“If he wants to go [next time], I don't care, I'll go. When it comes to my teammates, I'll always have their back, especially Api, he's our captain – you need to have his back even more.”

Utoikamanu, who appeared in his first State of Origin game for the NSW Blues will miss this week's game against the Manly Sea Eagles bringing his season to an early close. However, the enforcer will be aiming to continually get better and help guide the club off the bottom of the ladder next season.

Yes I like the fact he stood up , got some fire in the belly now and this is a good thing for next year , he has guys around him in Bateman and Klemmer who never take backward steps , Steph and say Pole with added aggression next year will,be fantastic with our new 6/7 and maybe a centre.

That is exactly the attitude i have wanted to see from our forwards for a long time, this is what blokes like Blocker and Kerry for Balmain Ellis and Senter for WT have given for my club in the past. That is potential captaincy at our club whan Api retires

Would have meant more had we not been flogged.
Enter the field with that attitude and I’ll be happy.

Whew-escaped the toothless tiger nickname.

Only difference is Blocka would have put 3-4 left hooks on him in the first 30 seconds, but different times then! (Pity in one way).

Yet to see the guy get aggressive while actually playing the game. Much easier when you know you'll be held back by players, virtually zero risk of a punch to the chin and the refs are there, it's easy to push and shove for the cameras and make comments to the papers after the game.

We need Stef to be the Junkyard Dog instead of Pets as Therapy. Waiting for him to get angry.
