Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I’ve always been an admirer of Tim Sheens, but this year some of his choices and team selections had me at my wits end,,. They reeked of his ego running wild and him putting his ego in front of the team’s development and best interests.. how talau and Wakeham kept getting selected and his meddling with edges just as they started to gel with each other reeked of insanity.. seriously inept, prideful stubborn decisions that ruined the season.. bula was the big discovery and trey peni scouted him, McDonnell had niothing to do with it and yet when Fulton was hired to do a better job Sheens made out that it was a betrayal of apocalyptic proportions… I was so over it, Tim didn’t seem to care that much as it had no real impact on his future , or that’s how it appeared and I found the entire thing to be on the nose…
He was exectly the same last time he was here

SMH article on Josh Schuster. At 22, he can still make the transition to be the ball playing lock most NRL clubs do not have. The issue is his hefty contract at the Eagles and if they were to chip in a substantial amount he may be a bargain especially if he gets himself motivated. Note in the article below Fulton identified him at age 13 and Bob Fulton also thought very highly of him on first sight. Benji is also mentioned in the article.

We have players that could make the lock role their own, Schuster could take that role and has talent but isn't pushing himself into Manly's starting side.

Also, if Schuster isn't motivated in a team with a good chance at the 8... what will his motivation be in a team coming 17? It's why Api and Klemmer are both good signings as Klemmer is a hard hitter that will keep being a hard hitter. Schuster won't try harder to push us from 14 to 11th when he is giving up on Manly who have a real chance at makign the 8.

We also need to remember at Manly him + marketing de-railled their season. Yes I totally support players standing up for their beliefs, I also totally support calling them TOTAL BOOFHEADS! Freedom of opinion is not freedom from opinion nor cotton wool.

^We just don't need that crap here.

It's a no.

Don't know if true but heard that Seibold wanted to get the boys club out of Manly and he has offload about 5 or 6 young players so far this year without a worry if they are super talented or not the guys with non-work ethic

That would not surprise me as the old boys club at Manly is just as entrenched as ours is here.in fact in some ways it is even worse

Every name mentioned strengthens our squad. I could put an argument forward for each player.

Lawton could be the ideal #14. Plays backrow & hooker. Tuilagi is talented- regardless of any bad feeling toward him leaving. Condon is promising as well. Weekes has the speed we lack. Fulton is the type of effort player this club needs too.
Thank god you're not involved in WT recruitment

I would seriously consider taking him for 4 years if Manly coughed up 350 - 400k a season. He is only 22 and does have some serious talent - just lacking in maturity and attitude at the moment. If you could turn that around he would be a bargain.
Manly didn't just sign him to a long term big money deal and will then decide to pay 400k for another club to take him

Does anyone remember how we were travelling as a club prior to 2005 ?
Not real good, but we discovered some elite young talent and the rest is history.
The problem was some were elite, whilst others were good.
However we rated many of them as excellent and stopped recruiting properly as a result. Benji and Robbie should have played their whole careers surrounded by SOO reps.

Tariq Sims looking for a ontract. 2 years if possible. Cant do all the work on his own. Fits into a system where everyone puts in. Believes in winning, plays hard and has a big heart. Therefore there will be no rumours, suggestions or signing here. It is fact. Not interested in Wests Tigers. The criteria does not meet his standards in the twilight of his career.

Was Schuster really an option or did we boost his asking price for Manly to re-sign him to acquire the Fainu bros and possibly Weekes? Now Manly may want to move him along but would have to pick up some of the contract. If so it is a brilliant strategy from the WTs.
We got lucky he was exposed mid season...manly gets stuck with him

I can read between the lines here

Which is interesting as Des pushes this "fortress manly" idea.
I suspect the Penn family has gone "get rid of these players". Now the Siebold hire makes some sense as you hire a guy with the instructions to clear people out.

This could seriously break the culture there.
