“In regards to Madge, you can never second-guess his passion and commitment and hunger and competitive nature,” said Tigers chief executive Justin Pascoe. “That’s something we always acknowledge with him, even on Tuesday. In the end, that’s a decision we’ve made and the decision we’re moving forward with.”

I‘m confused by the club’s continual coach turnover? There have been 6 coaches during Pascoe’s 9 seasons as CEO. This is a major reason why we’re not winning games IMHO.

Its the kneejerks from the board that are the major problem, nothing happens at the club without their approval imho

In terms of a CEO he probably hasn’t done a bad job considering what he came into. Despite the court of public opinion and weird media infatuation with Wests Tigers, he can point to significant achievements in his tenure - the trouble is that we have declined as a football team in his reign as well.

I believe there is an opinion that the WTs issues start at the front office of which he is responsible. I also think we miss key signings due to this perception - players and managers think we are somewhat of a basket case. New blood is probably required as a symbol of change for WTs.

Yep.
Lee is such an unknowledgeable, pom pom waving, little felcher.
He will certainly seize the opportunity to crow next year when we win 7 games.
He and those wankers on the board couldn’t care less.
He (and they) should be embarrassed !

The first major mistake was sacking Sheens and replacing him with a rookie, Mick Potter in 2013. That was before Pascoe.

Later, Cleary jumped off the bus two years before it was due. Madge was given four years by the club, and he took the team from a mid-tier team to the spoon. It wwasn't entirely his fault because of the Cleary's dud buys, but he should have been sacked sooner.

The year before the first spoon, the Tigs lost the last game against that year's spooners, the Dogs, by 38-0! After a result like that, most coaches would be gone, but Lee and Justin hung on. So they can't fairly be accused of running through coaches.

The trouble is they make bad choices. Madge wasn't working out but there was an easy answer to the problem - Flanno - but for some reason Lee and Justin kept overlooking him. Maybe they thought they were morally better than him?? I am confident that the Dragons improve under Flanno next year, despite their weak team. I am also pretty confident of a Tigers three-peat next year.

The rot starts at the top.

Yeah he has done a great job…
I especially liked that time he got deregistered for 6 months by the NRL and cost the club 3/4 of a million dollars in fines and $639k off our cap for the following year.
As a CEO I wouldn’t let this prick run a church raffle.

Pascoe is a businessman, he brought great success financially to the club. Yes, the results haven't worked out on the field, but you can hardly blame him... he's done his part in overseeing change but he really can't do much else for the team on the field. The fact he's talked about as our main issue is beyond stupid.

I will agree he comes across as very political just like Lee. Maybe a Change of role is needed but to give him the boot completely would be a waste. We have always been a dirt poor club and to see that change recently is fantastic. You can't take that away from Mr Pascoe.
What a load of bullshit. Pascoe brought great financial success? Really?
He arrived at the club at the right time, just as the NRL announced a massive $100m additional funding for clubs with the end goal to ensure clubs were close to fully funded each year at least until a new media deal could be delivered in 2022.
Pascoe hangs his hat on the P&L statement because thats all he has.
I think this move to oust him may see a club restructure? Maybe Dorahy may become the clubs first MD?

Cleary leaving for reasons of nepotism should not reflect on our club.

Alot went wrong following this.....he really stuffed us up.

And because Cleary was Pascoes man he should've went with him at that time.

Anyway, Pascoes done much good on the financial and infrastructure side but we need a change even though I doubt it will affect our on field fortunes either way.

The guy lacks judgement imo plain and simple !
From the lets air our dirty laundry mini series starring him to lets retain the coaching staff despite losing 38-0 to the wooden spooners to the incorrect engraving on the honour wall to tea shirts honouring the GI's for Anzac day .To the lets hire a new recruitment manager but don't tell or consult the coaches till its done . Etc The list goes on
None of these in isolation is a big deal but what is a big deal is the NRL community regard the Wests Tigers as a bit of a basket case and fair or not fair its makes our recruitment more difficult than any other club.
Now I read comments like if Stephano wants to go just let him go .Almost everyone who could land an almost matching deal would probably prefer to go where they are more likely to play finals .
We have landed a couple of Manly youngsters on good money and 4 year deals with no evidence they will make it in the top grade but I'm hoping they do .weve landed a Dragons reserve half back and a returning Vet .
Point is its just that much harder to attract top talent and its mostly because of our image and if the CEO isn't the person primarily responsible for this eroding image than who is .
In any other business a CEO with this lack of success over many years would not survive

😂 it sounds really bad when you put it in one post.
I find his appointment red flagged the real issue. How does the board search all over the world, receive 160 applications and manage to find someone who doesn’t have ‘CEO’ on his resume?
This from the then Chair..
"He's a sensational appointment," Tigers chairwoman Marina Go said. "We did a global search, we interviewed some fantastic candidates internationally. We are thrilled we are able to find a candidate of his calibre."

That person is Tim Sheens.

I liked the way Tim used to coach, exciting team exciting football. But Tim never drilled the basics. He doesn't like that and is too chummy with the players.

Were not going to attract top talent while our defense sucks and our team is not competitive.

Why do you want to play for a team that would get the spoon, and train and clearly develops people for the spoon. If were going to blame Pascoe, lets blame him for not getting the right people involved in our training and identifying the gaps.

Pascoe has to be fired now due to the pressure on him. Heck we should fire him for agreeing to the Sheens/Benji stupid idea! Yet be clear, our problems are on the field. Firing the business manager wont' make an ounce of difference unless we appoint someone really bad. Manly, Eels have far worse management issues then us. We have a coaching problem.

2 months after Pascoe‘s appointment he returns from annual leave to the news that favourite son Robbie Farah has been treated badly by the coach. So he offers the inducement on a return from South’s as ambassador. Eventually, the NRL get wind of Pascoe’s master stroke after reading his quotes in a masthead’s column and deregister the poor guy.
my question is ..how did this contract pass under the noses of board members without so much as a second thought?
Sure, an experienced CEO may have phoned the NRL if he had any doubt, and not relied on the fans in the board room to bring it to his attention?

Board doesn’t give a shit buddy.
Pascoe likely presented the move to them through a financial lens and they ticked and flicked it without any consideration.

I’m quite sad about the Tim Sheens departure!

I don’t pretend to know the full story and understand there are two sides to every story. But Tim Sheens is a club legend and will always be remembered as our inaugural premiership coach & a fairytale premiership at that.

The Board & CEO made the decision to bring him back to the club to set us back on the path to glory.

And what we will probably never know is what his contribution was to get us to that next premiership! We know the harsh decisions with Maguire & players cut but there is probably a lot Sheens did with our pathways and identifying the next crop for Matt Betsey to get pathways contracted. And what may prove to be his lasting legacy is Benji as coach!

It just shits me to tears how the Chair, Board & CEO once again made a huge decision in backing Sheens and then decided it wasn’t working prior to his contract fulfilment. It’s time for the Board & CEO to accept their responsibility and make change at their level. It’s time for a new CEO and new Chair (unfortunately I believe they have lost the respect of a majority members, fans, media, managers & no doubt other stakeholders). We need a fresh image painted of our Board & senior administration and an image painted with the word RESPECT.

“They sacked him. And I can only imagine how frustrated Tim is. It’s sad to see. He wasn’t given the opportunity to do what he wanted to do. You bring a coach back who has won a premiership, and is in the top bracket of coaches of all time, you look to his expertise, then you don’t use it. It doesn’t make any sense to me.”
His mate didn’t sign a NDA.
This is the organisational behaviour the club desperately needs to modify.
It’s clear to everyone that WT continually fails to extract the best from everyone at the club, but why?
If Pascoe and the board can’t find a way to build the reputations of everyone at the club then it wouldn’t matter who bloody signed with us.
I see a third spoon in 24. 😡

Simon Cook, CEO of the Holman Barnes Group, was interim CEO at WT when Pascoe was suspended & stepped down from the Board mid-season for John Dorahy. Could Simon look for a different challenge and become Wests Tigers CEO?

I'm just speculating but heard some positive reports on Simon and according to the latest WT Forum Podcast, he dealt very openly & honestly with them.

Just a thought.

Lord knows- anything is possible but first Pascoe has to resign / fired and look at the candidates that put their name forward. After that I hope its a competitive, relatively transparent process and best person gets the job.
