No. For half a century I've seen governments come up with ideas to improve the lot of Aboriginal people, and it's always been a stuff-up, from justice programs to ATSIC to Abbott's paternalism. It's pretty clear that the government is not a good project manager when it comes to social issues.

I'd rather the government focus on easing issues with housing, energy supply, the environment and the economy.
And more missiles! We need more. We don't have enough. Nuclear tips if available

Im Voting No based on the fact that...

I am called an Invader and an original Boat person.

I would die for this country, Its my country too.
Who's calling you an invader mate?

Has someone said it's not your country, or it's not going to still be your country if there is a permanent advisory body for indigenous people?

Truthfully, I can't stand Australia sometimes.
from the backward mentalities woven through
colonialism, 2 the Americanisation of our poltics/
media. It's a beautiful country and it's my 'home' but
I've been seriously considering emigrating again

Edit: I forgot to quote Spartan's post

ATSIC was a representative body for indigenous people that was dissolved by John Howard because of controversy around one of the board members. The reason a new representative body needs constitutional enshrinement is to recognise the deep significance of indigenous people in our country and avoid politicians being able to get rid of it, like what happened to ATSIC. Government still has the right to change the representative body, constitutional change just mandates that there has to be one.

I get that to many people this sounds controversial. To me, that is a simple and fair approach to improving a bad history of dispossession and bad policies which have often had a harmful impact on Aboriginal lives.
ATSIC acheived absolutely nothing in terms of improving life for indigenous Australians, and ended up being an expensive gravy train led by a serial rapist.
And you want such a thing to be in the constitution, permanent and unremovable?

Respect your POV TL but I respectfully disagree.
Can't draw parallels with the States when it
comes to race. They have a long wicked history
of slavery that they haven't reconciled with yet.
What are you talking about?
They had a very destructive and bloody Civil War to end it.

Maybe they too can have a referendum. Sought it all out once and for all. That would do it.

Where will you be emigrating to?

Can't speak for Spartan but I am called an invader every time I am "welcomed" to Country.

Every time Ernie Dingo's 1970's invention is sprouted before a sporting or other occasion I am implicitly called an invader and told that it isn't my Country.

Probably back to the UAE I've lived there before
and have family there. It would be work related
though haha, I don't hate Australia just better
opportunity. Family has a business over there
I have had a friend living in Dubai for about 15 years now.
Crazy city and bloody hot. I live in Cairns and am saying it’s hot there lol…
Incredible engineering and construction going on over there.

We currently have 11 Indigenous Parliamentary reps - all fighting for their piece of the pie for their areas, issues and constituents. If this new organisation is introduced, what becomes of their voices? Do they work in conjunction with it? Do they work under its umbrella? Will it undo their current initiatives for the “greater good”?
So many questions and zero answers.
IMHO, too many "she'll be right" "trust us" "we never failed your expectations"! 😡
There is a lot of good will towards Aborigines at the State and Fed levels as is (e.g. $32+ billion per year + many incentives),
however, both sides of politics could hardly wait to milk it exclusively for their political advantage,
my test is "do they walk their talk?"
- (WALK) Albo set an example by showing how much he/ALP wants to "listen" when they visited Alice, and left within hours ,
- (TALK)I understood the tour was planned for three (3) days minimum, "we came to listen"??🤔
