Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If twal was on 300k the club would no doubt be happy to keep him and extend him. When he's on almost double that, that's where the trouble lies .

Realistically he's not a starting prop, and not really a bench prop either. But a solid reliable player.

How much would any club offer to take him off our Hands? If anyone takes him at full price I think he's gone. If they want us to chip in half then he stays.... it's not as if we've even come close to spending all our cap in recent years in any case

I don’t get that logic at all. He’s one of our better players. If he’s on double that and we have to pay half for him to play elsewhere, then we have 300k remaining to pay a player who won’t be as good as him.

The dogs inquired about him during the year. He will end up there

If true I can understand this decision. I reckon Joffa was great as well but he was a similar player who was also on big dollars.

We aren't the rorters and we can't get away with that.

Also don't tell you the gaps he doesn't close up cos he's not mobile enough to get there....
Also don't count the amount of times he's turned back at the goal line
- Most other middles in the game score those barge overs, at least sometimes...

That first part is completely laughable and simply not true. Twal makes up for others lack of effort and mobility by covering such situations. He never gets caught out being lazy or not mobile enough to cover a space.
He is one of the best middles in the game at covering space defensively

Our current side needs to be improved if you want to get off the bottom of the table…. Two years now they have only won 4 games …If they go back with that same team next season then do you really expect things to change?

although Twal gives his all…to me he is nothing special …provided they have someone ready to sign to replace him who is better ..then great… bring him in…

The issue seems to be though that they let players go ( Hastings and Joffa) and then don’t replace them or upgrade…

if they swap him for Keppie then this will be just wheel spinning, deck chairs on Titanic stuff…

Really?
- That must be why the team coming last 2 years in a row is playing him off the bench...

And all the good clubs are lined up around the block to steal him off us every contract year...
For mine - All the "Best Middles" in the NRL - Are at the best clubs.

So it's Alex Twals fault we are coming last because he is poor defensively? With that logic every player we have is poor defensively needs to go.

Identifying who can do the job asked of them every week consistently is essential to our re build. Twal is a role player, no star but a very important role player covering the lack of effort often shown by more talented players. Getting rid of players like this suggests that work ethic isn't of highest priority, when in reality, that is the most important thing, no matter how talented a player or squad is. It sends the wrong message.

We have said we aren't looking to extend Twal. By the time of 2025 he wpuld be almost 29. I am happy not to extend the contract of a 29 year old Twal. Think we should keep him next year but also ok not to extend. I would take Keppie over Twal long term

Go back and watch the manly highlights and point out these effort plays
you speak of for me can ya?

I never said he was poor defensively - He's OK (ish)
I could name 10 middles in the game that are better - Without even thinking....
I think Jurbo is over-rated and he shits all over Twal.

He's fine at catching a player when they run straight at him
Although he didn't stop DCE or Turbo early on for tries in the game mentioned above.

I've said it before - I have no hassle with keeping Twal, But he's first drop replacement middle for mine...
You can think / say what you like.
If he leaves to a successful club - Fair chance that will be where he finds himself....

We've come last - Twice in a row...
That would suggest most players we have need to go?
The bulk of our squad would be 17-30 at other clubs.
Twal would be top 10 defensive middles in the game, but let's just look at front rowers, which he is. So take the modern day locks like Murray and Jake out of it and just compare front rowers. Who in the game can play 70 to 80 minutes and do what Twal does? I don't think there is a front rower that can do it. AFB along with Haas is a freak with the minutes he plays, but it's his attack that is his strong point. Defense alone Twal is in the argument for best front rower in the game, at least top 5 to 10.
