Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Apparently Nene Macdonald (Sezer's teammate at Leeds) may want to get out of his contract with Leeds to live in Australia again (his partner has reportedly just had a baby here).

Experienced centre/winger - big, quite fast, good defensively, Sezer link, probably accept a 2 year deal.

He'll play for PNG against the PM XIII next month.

Should we (if we can't land a Gagai or Olam)?

McDonald was given permission by Leeds to come to Australia for a week..
He then ghosted them and just didn't return to England without any explanation at a time when Leeds were fighting for a finals spot.
That's not someone we need at the club.

In my opinion, we need to aim much higher. Not a fan.

Tommy Mikaele departing UK, AGAIN
To return to Australia

Could see him playing some Q cup
On a lower tier contract or even T&T...he's a valuable player- unless his form has fallen off a cliff.

Put it this way- Twal/Joffa on $500-$600k vs Seyfarth/Mikeale on $250-$400....how much difference is there, really, in the production on the field?

Had high hopes for Mikaele...
Rarely had a decent performance though.

Always looked uninterested.

I don't remember him being too bad.

He was very young & inconsistent- but he was also a member of a significantly worse forward pack. If he is your 5th choice prop in the club, 6th choice...your depth is pretty good. There's talent to go with the size. If he's a late bloomer- it's a bargain.

Umm....

On a lateral sweep, two things, and minor variations of those two things, contribute to the effectiveness of edge defence;

i) Can the sliding defence mitigate the speed of the half/fullback's speed to outside of his man?

Or

ii) Can an up and in defence kink the sweep through jamming, by shutting down the half (early jam) or centre /fb (late jam)?

A collapsing middle can lead to a number shortage out wide, but this is generally accumulative over a set, rather than a measure of effectiveness of an edge for a particular play.
Or a lazy/immobile middle.

The the national champs last year for Under 16s the 100m was run in 11.05 seconds. If this kid runs that fast he should give up footy and run for Australia - funny he wasn't even in the race
Interesting. Mate who has kids at Scots just sent me the link to watch the GPS Athletics Champs which were on earlier today. Onitoni Large ran a 10.93 into a headwind in 31 degrees to win the champs as a 16 year old. Haemasi Makasini ran a couple of races earlier also.

If that's the case we may not see him in the NRL. If he's that good he'd make more money as an athlete.
