Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

2. David Nofoaluma
3. Starford To’a
4. Junior Tupou
5. NEW SIGNING

Staines might fill the other wing spot or they sign someone decent. I can honestly see those guys having good years. Nofo is overpaid and not great but he can finish and hit it up. To'a can play. Tupou can do some damage as well.

The problem with a bunch of our players is that we need them to play to their best consistently.

I think we need our halves to kill it more than anything but we need so much to go right.
The real problem with many of our most of our players is that don't have much pride in their club.

That’s why I like Reilly.
It took him nearly the full season to get his chance then played with high energy, good intent and plenty of pride each chance he got.
Clear selection errors constantly selecting the likes of Talau and Kepaoa ahead of him.
In regards to To’a I believe he would walk into the starting line up for the Panthers or Broncos in 2024 if he was available to them.
He’s a natural left sided player with a massive left foot step who’s been made to constantly play on the right as he showed he could play well on the right side also.
He’s now approaching the prime of his career, he’s a must keep in my opinion.

Anyone know the story with Staines? It’s clear that if they have made him an extension offer then he hasn’t jumped at it…so I would suggest he is probably out the door..

Too early to tell with Reilly… i would prefer a more established first grader but it seems unlikely that will be happening …so he seems the best internal option at this stage if they don’t move Topou to the centers…

Naden mentally seems to have some issues … seems to be a common problem at the club…

If they lose To’a for 2025 then I won’t lose too much sleep on what he has shown so far… Topou would be disappointing because he showed a lot of promise at the start of the year…hopefully he can find that again
I'd say he after 500-600k

And well worth it.
He makes the likes of Jesse Arthurs look like a B grader and he is a very handy player in a very good side.
To’a is a weapon, just needs quality ball.
Competition for spots is the key to keeping players like To’a and Tupou on their game in fear of being dropped if they are not playing near their best.

You guys keep laughing at the suggestion, but Hymel Hunt would be a great addition to a young squad.

Good defensive player, popular everywhere he has played, low mistake rate, averages 120m a game on the wing in his 4 starts this year.

His biggest faults- he HAS had some significant injuries & top tier talents eventually beat him out.

If you can name our top tier talents in the centres & wingers....

He covers both wing & centre. Off contract. 100kg. 29 years old. Was a regular starter until 2022 where he lost a season & came back behind 2 very good wingers this year.

Additionally, off contract- add Corey Allen from the Roosters. Suddenly our lack of depth & experience has 2 players who have taken part in the Origin arena that offer versatility across the wing, centres & even fullback.

The way I see it is Fulton is doing what he is asked atm and building a very good young prospect squad which is now down to our coaching to deliver what they asked for and maximize the potential.

Have huge amount of doubts about the ability to execute the strategy however but time will tell.
Thanks for rationalising my doubts.

Agreed. You'd like to see some improvement next year and some players coming through and looking like they could be stars. I'm hopeful we can get some excitement from Fainu, Galvin and Sullivan ala Bula this year.

I'd also like to see Benji show some promise as a coach. So some good tactics and bringing kids on and more wins.
Chins up guys, things will be better next season. Nothing spectacular of course, but we won’t be coming last that’s for sure.

I'd caution against going into next season expecting to have a good season. It's not good for my mental health and I suggest it's not good for most people's mental health.
Lol well yeah that’s true. Our mob certainly knows how to disappoint! However I just feel that next season we can move forward somewhat from the last two years. I’m not expecting top 8 but I am expecting to move a few places up the ladder (11th or 12th maybe?) with hope for an even better 2025.

If you have a look at the players currently off contract in 2024 and available to be signed as of November 1 there is not much that would appeal to us.
Two quality young halves in Dearden and Mam, they will be the Qld halves in a couple of years time. I can’t see either of them leaving Qld based clubs at any cost.
Luai who will be 29 by 2025, we would hope Fainu or Galvin are as good as him if not better by that stage.
Joey Manu would be a big fish to catch, but we appear to have already put our eggs in Bula’s basket as our long term fullback, no chance of getting a player like Manu unless he’s guaranteed the number 1 jersey.
Bradman Best is a standout as a centre. He would be a great signing if a miracle happened and he signed with us, I think you will find each of the 17 NRL clubs will be lining up for his signature, so would need to pay 1 million per season to be a chance of getting him ti Wests Tigers. As good as he is, I don’t think he’s worth that much.
Other than these players the only real big names in the forwards are Kalomatangi, Jai Arrow and Saifiti.
Arrow appears to be very arrogant and injury prone, not sure he has the personality we would want late in his career.
Both of the Saifiti brothers are far better than average, not sure they are worth splashing a lot of cash at.
Kalomatangi looks to be the one who really stands out as the type of player that would really be an asset to us moving fiorward.
I say cut Bateman loose ASAP even if we have to chip in half of his contract to allow us to have a serious crack at Kalomatangi.
Failing that Josh Curran could be the cheaper more gettable version.
This lack of quality available should really highlight the importance of keeping our own players who are highly likely to be in the top echelon in their positions by 2025.
Good walk through mate 👍

not really?

Klokstad, Ford and Luke Metcalf…

That’s three players… two of them in the spine… who have we signed again?
Well I’m not sure your point. We’ve signed players in a similar fashion really.
Klokstad, experienced and unwanted but signed to return home in a position of need. Sezer.
Ford. Good junior backrower not getting a look in. Fainu.
Metcalf. Outstanding junior half who had a bit of a tough time with injuries and not getting a lot of first grade.
Sullivan.

It’s not just these signings that transformed the Warriors. It’s the Niakore, Walker, Barnett, Martin inform and experienced combination.

Maybe in November we’ll sign ourselves a couple of experienced guys of but I doubt it.

Staines is an interesting one. I think he sees himself as a fullback (with the relevant spine coin). I don’t see him as a wing, while certainly quick enough, he isn’t the metre eater you need to start the set of six off. If he stays I would play him as a centre. I recall he played there in the Panthers squad and was more then adequate defensively - which is our problem.
