Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

There is rarely any anything decent in this thread, and or this forum these days, just full of negative, whining, whinging, complaining, name calling, bickering, nonsense. who would want to support this club if its a cross section of our fans.
The irony of you bitching about whinging is quite funny.
Why would anyone expect this place to be happy when the club hasn’t made the finals for a dozen years, sacks coaches and players constantly, embarrasses itself in the media constantly, is ridiculed by pretty much all Rugby League people, just secured its 2nd spoon in succession and has lost near on 75% of its last 100 games?

Maybe these young blokes will galvanise and introduce a culture of success to the top grade. Maybe we’ll land some decent backs over the off season. Maybe Benji will be a coaching genius. We need something.

Recruitment update!

Club have been keeping tabs on Bradman Best for a while I posted a couple of months ago he was our main recruitment target along with Olam as the plan is to upgrade our stocks within the outside backs.

Storm threw a potential Olam for Blore trade up - however with Blore recent rise in form to end the year and Olam’s defensive struggles to end the year it seems we’ve denied that deal.

The club have been monitoring Best for a while and I posted on here that Best’s management put the notion that deals would have to start at around 700k for him to entertain leaving Newcastle. Which was initially scoffed at - however his form to end the year and most especially his SOS performance has switched us to engage in those talks and will most probably offer anywhere in the region from 700-800k.

I wouldn’t get too excited though cause I’m hearing Best is leaning towards remaining at Newcastle but we’ll make them sweat.

Ezra Mam will remain at Brisbane - Dragons want him badly but he’ll ink a new deal pretty soon.

Luai is definitely being circled by Benji - however the club are eager to see Sullivan’s development and ability through pre season before putting a formal offer towards him.
I would hope we have enough confidence in Latu, Sullivan, Sezar, Galvin and later Large to not pursue Luai, that money can be better spent elsewhere

Thanks @teddy23 I'm sure there are some other things bubbling away re outside backs & 'train & trial' deals. Good move by the club re Sullivan, if he returns to pre-season training in great nick & really rips in with leadership, skill & fitness, it may alter future recruitment targets.

Anything on who may be allowed to look elsewhere from our top 30?

Good news that Asu Kepaoa made the Kiwis A squad this morning, it means his value as a trade pawn went up!
Not if he gets game time it won't

Essentially no change.

Can’t believe the talk about best at 800k how desperate do you have to be….he would be found out hard at the wests tigers! We’d hate his contract more than that 7 we used to have….his defence is woeful and attack aided by a gun in Ponga

Have to say, not immediately a fan of targeting Luai, but the stat that does give me pause is his win %.
Understand that a few blokes in that Penrith side would have a similar % but I think it's pretty underrated when considering new signings.
James Maloney despite being considered a bi of a journey man had an outrageous win percentage across his career and should really be talked about more when it comes to the list of "great" players, the guy just knew how to win.
Might be a quality that Jarome possess or he might just be in a stacked team, guess we wont know unless he goes elsewhere.

Would most likely be a huge and expensive failure and go the same way as when Grub was going to be our Grub.

Beginning to wonder if that shoulder is going to impact his career.
It is a huge NO from the DUCK! He is no Stephen Crighton and $600,000 is more like it. So in summary stay in the Hunter.

Suli is Joseph Leilua 2.0. players like that don't work at Wests Tigers.
I can see it but he looked good this year for the dragons.

Don't think many clubs would be interested so it's make or break for him, or else off to super league.

If he's unlocked, he could do a rly good job.

Best & Suli

That's a good pairing for 2024 onwards.

I understand the Suli hate but at his best, he trumps anything we've got on the books.Suli at his Best, that is the best gee up of the year on this forum!

I guess you didn’t watch many red v games this year

I agree with you @DUCK but it's fairly clear that you are referring to Bradman who I don't think is the Best. His top level can be very good but I think he has only displayed that a handful of times to date.

The game he played in Origin came as a complete surprise (to me at least) and I believe he got really lucky and everything went his way on the day and that display is what people are judging him on, a bit like Star owning Valentine Holmes.

They both need to produce consistent performances like that and they both need to lift their defence big time. It was only a year ago that Best was on the outer at Newcastle and he has obviously lifted his attitude since then but has a long way to go if he is ever going to truly reach that elite level. (not saying that he won't or can't, but then so could Starford when it comes down to it.)

Anyway, the comment I made that you replied to was actually about Jerome Luai.
