Jarome Luai

Luai is generally regarded in rugby league circles as one of the better blokes in the NRL.

A mate has been in origin camp for the past 3 years and said fox, to’o and Luai are the best blokes in the team. Give the most to fans, treat the staff the best (apparently RCG is the worst bloke)

I didn't need this post. I'm slowly warming to the idea of Luai against all my instincts, and posts like these tip me over. I'm a whisker away from actually hoping we get him.

For the record, I to have heard that he is very down to earth with fans and treats them well.

Just says and does a whole lot of dumb stuff that taints his image.

BTW I am all for him becoming a Tiger!

That just completely goes against my perception that he is a compelte douche bag. Would be great if we get him though. Especially 25/26 with api.

I’m a Youth worker & I do a lot of work in Mount Druitt & its surrounding areas. The amount of time Luai, To’o, Critta, Leniu & Taylan May give back to the local community is unbelievable & it really does impact those troubled kids more then people would think.

I've heard the same. He does a lot of good in the community beyond the obligatory stuff all clubs do. He can obviously be a bit silly and immature, hes a bit of a troll, but the media narrative about him is so disproportionate. Particularly considering some of the other characters running around the NRL.

I'm afraid that isn't true, and the reason is the salary cap.

Even the beggars must be choosy - you spend your money unwisely and it will cripple your chances for several seasons.
that's true but there's very few big players who would choose the Tigers as a club they want to go to. Manu will probably stay at Roosters for that reason. As will Dearden and Mam. I don't think 1 million for Luai is crazy in the new salary cap. He feeds off haters and knows many people will target him. The two changes to penrith's spine from 2019 to 2020 was Egan leaving for Koroisau, and Maloney departing for Luai. Edwards was average and actually got dropped in 2019. Yeo was playing a mix of centre, lock and second row in 2018/19. Cleary was 5/8 to Maloney at halfback. It's no coincidence once some of the new talent came in penrith improved

It seems that some on this thread have the wrong mail. Yes, it's true the club offered Simpkin as a swap for 2024 for Luai but it is not almost a done deal like some are saying. The most likely scenario is Luai staying at penrith still. Those rumours the other day about Benji meeting Luai are true but it doesn't mean he is about to put pen to paper. He is still negotiating with Penrith and this will most likely drag out until early 2024 so it's highly unlikely he's coming early. It was just a proposition put forward. Luai is just doing what every single player does that decides to test the market, some sign elsewhere, some stay put
This is taking the same path as the Mitchell Moses saga

I’d be surprised if he holds off that long.
Hope for our sake he doesn't. I might be wrong but it doesn't seem to happen too often that a big name player announces they are changing clubs 18 months out. The high demand ones it seems to drag on. Might be proven wrong.

I think this is different to Moses. He was never genuinely considering coming imo

It happens. Api did. Crichton and Kikau as well.

Something no one has mentioned is that Latu Fainu played hooker for Tonga. Perhaps he could play 14 in the future as Koroisau ages and doesn't play the 80? Sullivan and Sezer next season for me
Fainu I think will probably start the year in the 14 jersey, but I doubt he ever plays hooker unless Api goes down. he's more likely to come on and play in the halves if we need a spark, similar to how Wakeham was used at the beginning of the year, but better.

2025 I would be fairly confident you'll see Tallyn on the bench and playing at least 20 a week.

Mate, that’s wonderful, sounds like he’s a good and caring human being but it doesn’t change the fact , is he going to be another Ciraldo, JAC, Mitchell or Moses who all sized us up and decided “too hard”.
Let’s wait until we see him touring our facility and signing on the dotted.
Just trying to keep it real folks.

Fair enough Hal. Can't blame fans for getting ahead of themselves though
