10 Great things about Electric Cars.

My issue is the infrastructure isn’t there. Nothing more comforting then when I’m running low on fuel I can pull over and fill up. If Tito treats himself to a Bubble o Bill and some salt and vinegar smiths crisps then the wife’s none the wiser.

Can someone start a pro vs against list for electric cars for the forum. Much the same as the Sezer one.

I’m happy to go in the against camp.
The infrastructure isnt there , and will simply never be there to deliver the same speed ,localities and convenience of existing methods of refueling cars, regardless of the dreams and promises .

Some good points, not so sure about better resale as there is currently a massive over supply of vehicles .
Correct with better breaking , but keep in mind your special over priced EV tyres are paying the price of this good braking stopping the heavy body weight , they seem to get far less life then conventional tyres.
As far as cheaper upkeep , i would need to look into this as just mentioned with tyres costing more and then the lack of ability to have your car serviced at any mechanic thus losing you ability to shop around and save would add to service costs

This guy has sorted the tyres problem:

yep, They become land fill .
NOPE

So Batteries contain lead and precious metals. They recycle them for Money.
Also because there are fewer manufacturers i.e. Tesla, Batteries are very Uniform and that makes Recycling a stack easier.

As everyone who said "what about the recycling" should have realised, people don't care about this till year 9, then come the retirement of the batteries and people screem for a electric cell that holds 80% charge. Heck they often don't need to recycle them because the car with a 400km range becomes a car with 380km range.

When they do recycle them, people are crying for the old batteries.

Lets get this clear:

PRO:
0-100 in under 3 seconds. Like WOW, I can get a Lamboghini killer for under 100k.
Comfy
Auto driving
Stack of visibility
Stack of storage space.
Extreme reliability, more like a Toyota then a Holden/Ford/Mitzubishi,
Very safe car.
Petrol is $$$$$ compaired to Electricity $$

Con:
Auto driving may kill you
Batteries may explode/be bad in flood/etc.
Very safe car, harder to die in it. 🙁 Cars are not fun unless they can kill you.
Won't start unless seatbelts are used, see above.
Can't tow.

Tesla is very Tech/new money radical. I am actually surprised that they are as good as they are. Their build quality is bad, but American Auto's build quality are BAD.

Things like Recycling or infrastructure for charging will come later. Many Chargers now and more are coming. 2015 it was an issue and still a lady took her Tesla around Australia. Now it's just not an issue.

The Volvo based Polestar doesn't appeal to me. While the Chinese electric cars look good, Cherry/GreatWall/etc have been shockingly poor cars.

The big one though. Wars have been fought in Iraq, Syria, Iran, Afghanistan, etc all around Oil. I would love to just give it the flick. Tell Saudi Arabia to piss off! Petrol is $2.20 at the moment which is redicously high and I don't see the Middle east getting safer.

Afghanistan, Syria?

Maybe wars in the future will be fought for so called critical materials. Wars are fought for control.

Same shit just a different smell.

Let's pull the plug.

EV recycling is in its infancy. It takes a major process to break it down and recycle components.. definitely cannot end up as landfill as they are highly toxic and will cause major environmental issues + they easily catch fire.
My BIL is a top dog in the motorway industry dealings with closures, maintenance etc. They now have special metal container box for EVs catching fire that encases the car and filled with water and stay that way for a day or two to make sure they don't reignite.. caused a ship to sink in europe resulting in some liners banning EVs.
For owners, has the home & content insurers clarify their policy on owning an EV?

I have a 1000square metre block and I use the 36v Ryobi battery mower.
I've never run out of battery.
It's so much better than petrol. It's much lighter and I have thick spongy buffalo. I'm getting my lawn done in half the time without bullshitting around with petrol.

Yeah on a small block like that it would have advantages.
I used a 36v Stihl blower on the weekend. Every bit as powerful as the petrol one but only lasts 20 minutes so you have to be conservative with its use.

Tried all types of whipper snippers.
Ryobi was the worst, imo.

I got a 4 stroke Honda one now that absolutely shreds. Great piece of equipment.

Good quality gear + petrol, is the top tier from my experience.

Love my Atom edger.

Got a big nature strip. Nice and noisy, powerful......20 minutes done whereas a whipper snipper would take a couple of hours.

Good mans work.
