10 Great things about Electric Cars.

I've got a crappy petrol whipper snipper that's taken 10 pulls to start since it was new. I've been waiting for it to die to replace it but I got fed up and told the wife if it took 10 pulls to start when I mowed yesterday that'd be it, I'm done, it's going to the tip.
The bloody thing must've heard, it started first pull for the first time ever.

Electric is the way to go hey.
Start everytime, much lighter, bugger all noise and the shed doesn't sink of petrol anymore.
I got an 800² block and it does the job easy. I was very surprised.

Great sales pitches from you and ToddP re electric mowers.
I’ve got a 600 block but still using my ever reliable Rover 4 stroke but promise that when I do need a new mower will get an electric.
Then I can mow at 7pm according to some other ads I saw ! No more sunburn.

I changed when my last petrol mower kicked the bucket. I'm only early 50s but the difference in weight was very noticeable and welcome. I like being out early the morning but got guilty about cranking the petrol up before 9 on a weekend. I'm now out there about 7.30 this time of year.

I borrowed a stihl mower from the shop and found it was only just coping with the buffalo but pretty much useless on couch. I put it through some wet grass too. Did not like it.

EV recycling is in its infancy. It takes a major process to break it down and recycle components.. definitely cannot end up as landfill as they are highly toxic and will cause major environmental issues + they easily catch fire.
My BIL is a top dog in the motorway industry dealings with closures, maintenance etc. They now have special metal container box for EVs catching fire that encases the car and filled with water and stay that way for a day or two to make sure they don't reignite.. caused a ship to sink in europe resulting in some liners banning EVs.
For owners, has the home & content insurers clarify their policy on owning an EV?
Gah who makes this stuff up. I hear so much more about EV battery recycling then Asbestos disposal in Western Sydney! Asbestos disposal a far bigger issue along with Containimated land management.

No one cares about Recycling till 5 years after your flooded with Junk OR if the stuff is valuable.

Everyone wants EV batteries because once they are crap for a Car, they are great for House cells. 10 Years is the figure given, most Hybrid/EV batteries outlast that (some don't and you are rolling the dice). but what's crap in a car, is fine for a house. They don't go "Flat as a tac". You gradually loose range. that battery may be 60-70% capacity, so no good for performance car but otherwise fine.

Naturally after 20-30 years it will need to be dismanted for various parts...

That's where the EV's are cool as they don't have many models, yet. The car frames are steel + interior lining so easy to recycle. While the batteries are all uniform, much more uniform then a Toyota Camry. Recyclers love Uniformity as they know what's in the battery.

Worry about Asbestos disposal or Stone Kitchen benchtops. not this.

I like mowing the lawn at 7pm in summer.

I like to think the neighbours love the sound of the fossil fuelled mower in the distance.

It's not Australia if you can't hear a lawn mower and cicadas in summer.

Electric Battery Lawn mowers Beware.

I tried:
no name --- SUCKED.
Makita, HORRIBLE and Dangerous. always Jammed.
Bosch (corded) this was actually useable. Unsure how the battery would go but there seemed thought in the design. My Neighbour threw out a similar model and I tried repairing it... Failed..

EGO - Most expensive, best by far. I used to mow with a masport petrol and it's just slightly less powerful then it. I prefer carrying the Ego, starting the Ego but I think I would just prefer using the Masport. add in far less noise and the Ego wins.
^all done on horrible western Sydney grass that grows WAY too fast.

Only 10% of EV batteries in Australia are recycled/re used , just saying

Curious
Is that because they can’t be?
A few reasons , mainly because it is difficult and expensive . There is no current legislation to force vechicle manufactures to commit to recycling and thus they arent interested in doing so voluntarily and having to pass on the considerable costs involved to the EV consumer and ruin sale figures.

Yes, the RMA 510, it also grabbed the taller buffalo. I really wanted it to work. I’ve got no problems with a heap of other stihl gear, particularly like the pole saw, chain saw and edge trimmer.
my advice, it’s suitable for a small wide blade grass, but you need to mow more regularly.

I have really thick spongy buffalo that pushing the heavy petrol mower through was like pushing a shopping trolley through sand.
The electric mower automatically powers up through the long wet stuff. It hasn't stalled once.
You have to get a 36v, steer clear of the 18v.

That model from Stihl is 36v.
I wouldn’t buy a battery mower. The power isn’t there and the cutting performance suffers. Battery power tools are fine for small jobs with the blowers, linetrimmers and pruning chainsaws working well.
At this stage though, you still need petrol chainsaws and lawnmowers if you have a decent amount of work to do.

It was a 36v, self propelled model I tested at around $600. I found the 48v commercial unit too heavy and costly at around $2,500 I think. Pleased it’s workin for you.

My neighbour got a ride on electric, and is happy with it. He mows at all hours, day and night with its headlights on. Can hardly hear him.
Ive got a 48” petrol twin blades for mulching and I love the sound of it, sounds like a chopper. My wife does her Arnie impersonation to motivate me….get to da choppa, do it now!

and apparently yes. only 10% are recycled. (heck lets put a source to that number).
Yet the materials in the battery are 95% reusable. Meaning they can be recycled.

Instead we are stock piling LI batteries... !!

Honestly they are very reusable. Get 10 of them and you have an instant Tesla powerwall.

Firstly the cost of recovering the lithium alone is 5 times the cost of virgin mined lithium , rendering it worthless at this stage unless business is forced to use it .. which it isnt.
Secondly the available EV batteries used from a previous car would come with a great degree of mystery as to their origin , particularly in regard to what wrote the vechicle of for these to be now removed.
The major reason EV's are written of isnt generally body damage but because the battery has been compromised is some fashion ( impact, water, heat etc) and not economical to replace. Would you trust one of these stacked on the side of the house. ?
