Bula who is a rookie. Do we have anyone else who would make a top 8 backline?
Staines was fringe at panthers im hoping will become consistent for us.
Toa fringe first grade
Kepeoa fringe
Noffa fringe
Tupou fringe with potential
Naden fringe
Douhie if he wanted to play centre yes but probably unlikely to return soaking up 600k on the salary cap next year.

Who am I missing?

They aren’t fit or smart enough to defend against the top sides for 80 minutes.
Not this year they weren't. Defence is an attitude though. I don't think it's impossible to improve that and fitness.

The NRL is informed that Luai is willing to accept an offer from the Wests Tigers, the NRL then informs the Panthers and they have 10 days to negotiate and change his mind.
Thanks, yeah I caught the break down of the process in a corresponding article. Who informs the NRL, offering club or player or player manager?

Thing with Luai is there's no need to try rush and get him for 2024 by giving up high value assets. His value for us next season would be more symbolic than on field.

He's going to miss the entire preseason due to injury. It's not easy to just walk into the wooden spooners with no preseason and just click with everyone and hit your straps. In fact joining us without a preseason may even tarnish his reputation and bring in negative publicity if he doesn't perform. Giving him time to learn the club and players (if he joins) it's smarter than throwing him in the deep end and hoping he doesn't get bogged down in negativity

What is our strategic direction ?
Instant success or a plant and nurture program. I get confused !
And I dont think you can have both.

For instant impact then it must be high profile external purchases, Luai and AFB,
for nurture and growing the club then Pathways inc Galvin and co is the go.
Klemmer not part of either imo. Journeyman on a downhill run, solid but not a world beater.

So I ask again “ What is our strategic direction “
Are we still a development club... Even though the only person I heard utter those words has long departed

Well Said 👌

I think it is madness we are even in the market for him. We have Fainu, Galvin and Sullivan. This should be right in Benji’s wheelhouse to develop these boys into good first graders - yeah we need to go through a bit of pain in next few years but I’d rather that then us go make over priced purchases which is exactly how we ended up here

Benji knows all about the pressure of expectations placed on these kids to rescue a fallen club. He and the likes of Farah had to do it themselves.

If he thinks we need a Luai then i wouldnt call it madness. Id call it strategic.

The benefits outweigh the risk of losing one of the young halves.

Rather than live in fear like previous coaches how about build it right so the kids can see the club in a positive light and are more willing to stay.

Another couple of years of bottom of the table football will cause a mass exodious of ALL our young talent we have invested in through our pathways, not just one or two.

Agree.
We don’t need to panic into a rushed decision and give up juniors we are banking on in positions we need them (center/backrow).
Klem makes sense IF AFB joins however.

Good point mate - as long as Benji is all in then I guess I need to back him

It was always likely fake news.

That's what I hinted at earlier, Earl. The fact
that yes, we make some questionable moves,
but take into acct, the elements out there
(player managers, media types & rival clubs)
that are a root cause of a lot of our problems -
destabilising us is in others' best interests,
not the club's. It's such a dirty game man

There are two problems. One - they write crap and two we listen to it. It's not personal against the Tigers either. It's just clicks.

What really gets my goat is that if this deal doesn't go through they'll be people stating that we could have swapped Klemmer and Galvin and gotten Luai just the same as the fake Talau/JAC story.

Those words are so crap now , Development Club , yep, that’s worked , 2 spoons , how about we be the $$$$ buy a comp club , like the Rorters , that would be nice to try , just have a loaded first grade side , win games play finals footy , 😁

So Penrith are taking 2 players as a favour to Isaac Moses? I doubt it. We may be run like that but they certainly aren’t.
I don't believe this story, These "Staff Writers" are full of ships...

Surely the Tigers wont release our best / most experienced Prop and the highest rated young #7 in the game..

Then again

The Talau/JAC wasn’t fake, the club just didn’t go ahead with it. Big mistake on that part.

I can’t believe that Panthers would think our board and ”list committee “would be that gullible to entertain the idea of swapping Klem and Galvin for another half who incidentally has next to no chance of passing a medical in the short term.
It’s an insult from Cleary. Although, he does know how this club works? 😳

This is a tough proposition and puts the tigers in a really uncomfortable position.
With the new laws, Jarome only has to advise Penrith he is considering our offer for them to counter. Unless I’m mistaken and the process does involve an offical lodgement to the NRL of the contract.
On that note, if we refuse to offer up the two players in the swap does that get Jarome on the back foot losing confidence that the club is willing to move mountains to get him over to join the club.
Without a confirmed signature for 25 I wouldn’t be considering any swap.

I mean it could be viewed as ‘oh great Penrith are talking about an early release’ surely we’ve locked him up.
But it could also be viewed as Penrith playing a bit of mind games to test out a competitive club to see just how much they really value Jaromes signature.
I think you‘re overthinking a tad too much
