Why bother with a review??

The bloke can coach given the cattle. He’s won in the two biggest leagues in the world and just put a record thumping on the best team in the world. How is Pascoe’s record? What’s he done again?
I was disappointed to see Pascoe boot Madge. I thought he was starting to make ground on the battered belief system Pascoe and the board have established. With his repeated trigger of WT are always in a fkn game, it was only a matter of time before it graduated to a strong belief that they could win every time they left the shed.

Always had my doubts that this review would solve any issues. Firstly there needs to be sound impartial recommendations and secondly the owners need to be capable of initiating the organisational behavioural change, and thirdly they need to stay the course. They’re a bunch of windsocks mate.

Decisions being made based on optics, media and perceptions.

In sport, you make decisions based on winning.

Given his recent record, I do.
Depends on who picks the side.
Negate the influence of people like Gould (who is extraordinarily overated when it comes to Origin knowledge) and Johns (who is overated as an Origin player) and you are well on your way.
This coaching job is made for him imo.
Will be interesting to see his team, possibly around February?

Yes, Hands up those who feel more confident the Blues can win more games now?
Only because of who Maguire is replacing. I don't think Maguire is that great a coach but you could pull a bloke out of the back bar who could do a better job than that clown Fittler.

On a wider note, I think this speaks to an important point that often gets missed ie that two things can both be true. In this case, (1) Maguire was treated shoddily by the club, was served a dud hand and generally has every right to feel pissed off about his Tigers experience and (2) he wasn't a great coach and certainly not the right one to pull us out of the doldrums.

Lots of excuses.
You can put Tigers 10 years of woe down to two key fundamentals both of which are interdependent;
1. Inability to recruit and retain the right players
2. Inability to find the right coach after Sheens was punted.

It’s the club executive and footy department that should be responsible for both of these, with the board simply the rubber stamp on coaching appointments and completely arms length from player recruitment and retention. I think Lee H has blurred the lines on this unfortunately and is more hands on than a Chair or Board Member should be. He’s probably not the only Chair in that regard (Politis for example) but perhaps without the football judgement or discretion of some of the others. The only coaching decision they got right in hindsight was Ivan, and that backfired in circumstances no one could have predicted. The Jason Taylor appointment however was diabolical. The Sheens return as the NRL coach was desperation and Benji is a Hail Mary. CEO’s responsibility to get that right.

Who is in your opinion?
I find it interesting that w have rid ourselves of experienced coaches in exchange for less experienced. Then also moved on 6 experienced players for, so far 4 inexperienced players. Well 3, one has heaps of experience.
We’ve won 5 games since Maguire left with a much better squad, so his sacking didn’t make us better.

There's a bias that we all have when we've had prior dealings with people that colour our opinions.
I just think it would've been cleaner to appoint someone who came in untainted by prior dealings.
It doesn't really matter now.
Whatever happens, happens and hopefully Benji can overcome.
That 1st line of yours is so true.
There's a couple of really boring posters on here, one in particular comes across as Very Cold and un-caring, not being you by the way.

But you're just repeating the same fallacy. Maguire not being good and what has come after him also not being good can both be true. "The coaches we have appointed after Maguire have not done well" doesn't say anything about Maguire one way or the other.

So far as I'm concerned, the guy had multiple seasons in charge and couldn't produce even a halfway credible defensive structure. I don't care if we put Bozo the Clown in charge after him: he wasn't the answer.

The board run everything at our club, not the administration.

We’ll never know because they make every coach, sorry scapegoat, sign a non-disclosure agreement
Yep, they are a very poor version of organised crime lol.
Lee gave us a glimpse earlier this year when he pretty much confirmed the board are responsible for every decision.

That was when Pascoe was copping shit. They just shift the blame around to save their own arse.
