Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

You are going off stats, I’m going off reality.
Anyone watching the games can see that up until now opposing defences are much more threatened when someone like Jayden Campbell has the ball in hand compared with Bula.
I can see Bula has made a big improvement to his physique during this off season, so time will tell if that improvement transforms to the playing field in 2024.
If Bula’s attack becomes as good as you and many others anticipate it will in 2024, Wests Tigers will make the top 8 without a problem and every supporter will be happy.
Your "reality" is extremely subjective and very much in the minority!

Bula never set a foot wrong from the moment he debuted - while Campbell has been in and out for first grade and mainly benchie for THREE years!!

I'll trust my eyes over your sense of "reality"!

I don't think it's breaking news that a guy who's been playing in the NRL for 3 years & on a better attacking team is more threatening then a guy who hasn't even played 20 games & was on the worst attacking team in the comp.... here's a link to Bula fending off one of the best props in the game to score a try btw
Campbell has played most of his career off the bench as a strike player - not an 80 minute fullback!!

No wonder he looks more of a threat to some when he comes on against tired defences specifically to spark attack!

That was very impressive, I didn’t see it often enough for my liking.
Reece Walsh does that and more multiple times per game.
A modern day NRL fullback can’t just be a very good player, they have to be a superstar in order for their team to be a genuine top 8 contender.
I’m not saying Bula has not already proven to be a very good player, I’m saying he needs to show a fair bit more in 2024 to become a genuine superstar.
It’s not beyond him, but time will tell.
Reese Walsh also LOST the Broncos the GF by poor positional defence and effort late in the game!!

I repeat - defence is 50% of the game!

I’ve been to a few trainings now. For a fair few years I have been concerned about the lack of ‘plays’ we use in a game. Except for the usual block play and the occasional pass behind the back ti cut out a player. I see nothing, at training they just play a quick hands play and apart from the two plays mentioned above, nothing!
That makes us way to predictable and teams just eat us up and shut us down. Today there was a tonne of support staff out there but no original or copied plays being delivered.
If we don’t come up with some good plays we will get the same as always results. You have to practice these plays continuously at training to make it muscle memory.
Gee when I played in F grade we had better designed plays then the tigers do. I don’t see anything being delivered from Benji ti give me hope. We are one month from trials and two from the season starter.

I would agree it is a bit concerning.
How many training sessions have you approximately attended this pre season ?
The only defence I can think of is most of the line breaks and tries we see in recent times come off fairly simple/standard plays which are done at high speed or from individual brilliance.

Set plays went out in the early 2000’s when players started to learn how to run proper lines and vary their shape. You won’t see many sides with set plays, eyes up footy is the coaching philosophy. Momentum is the key to creating space.

Man, so not ready. He has next to no shoulder muscle, he needs a year or two to build up upper body strength. Let’s not make another mistake like we did with bunji and liddle result in both having multiple shoulder reconstructions!
You mentioned you attend a few training session, if Galvin is no chance of playing NRL this season, what’s he doing in our top 30 and I have heard numerous reports that not only is he impressing Benji with his commitment and skill set at training, but he is also regularly running with our likely starting line up.
Why would Benji be wasting his time in doing this if he’s no chance of playing NRL this season ?

most sides run these plays often, if not all the time. the key is execution. going deep into the line while remaining square, copping the hits and timing the pass to create space for your outside man is the key, not the intricacy of the play. if our halves take the right options, we'll be fine.

He has the skill, just not the body size yet. That’s why I am pushing for him to come in as a centre to start his career. Teams are locking up top junior players by giving them a top 30 slot, happens all over the comp. Hence why miller is there as well, he’s got to cut a lot of weight and muscle up before he’s playing first grade.
