OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

I don't think NSW cup is a must and do think an 18 yr old can easily perform in first grade. But that 18 yr old needs to have the appropriate physique.
Fainu is physically developed. Galvin is not.
Other factors also matter. What are tje physical demands of their position? Can adjustments be made to structures to protect their limitations? Can his inside man act as a body guard? Even under developed are they better than the alternative?
All things considered I believe it highly unlikely we see Galvin in NRL this year.
Benji was 18 and didn’t have a developed muscular body.

True, but also suffered multiple shoulder injuries (possibly/probably imo) as a result. This is why I think physically being ready is the most important factor. Also why I believe Marshall more, not less, likely to be reluctant to debut a player not physically ready.
You have ignored all the other factors I've noted.

Do you think the physical demands on a 3 in defender are greater now than 20 years ago? I do as teams are more adept at creating plays to isolate that defender against a bigger body.

Can we adjust the defensive line to hide Galvin at wing/centre/fullback as Marshall was? Possibly. I'd guess (without knowing) that our backline doesn't have the footy IQ to do so. Most are still learning their craft yet alone how to interchange positioning to protect another.

Can Bateman or Papali'i be a body guard. Don't know. Neither really have been in the past.

Is Galvin clearly better than the alternatives even considering physical limitations? Doubtful. There are 3 other options in his preferred position. I don't recall Marshall competing with anyone of note for games early in his career.

He may yet surprise me and be the first choice 6 all year. I just stand by my position of considering it highly unlikely given my arguments above.

How many Benji Marshall you seen in your life...
I'm the best part of 50, And seen 1.
Benji had a mindset that not many blokes do...
Not only to come back from injury, But to also not let setbacks get the better of him...
Also played as such.

Galvin could well be the next Brad Fittler or Tim Brasher....
Could just as easily be the next Ash Taylor or Jordan Rankin.

I never understood the "this bloke did it comparisons"...
They're usually a totally different player, At a totally different club in a totally different time
with totally different calibre of players around them.
Means very little...

I don’t either. Similarly I don’t understand writing off people because of age or physicaliTy. Or because nobody has done it before.
My point was, and which I didn’t explain, that while Benji has limited coaching experience, he does have recent experience with young player development.

Luai will be the chief playmaker, and 9 times out of 10 the chief playmaker is the halfback.
I cite Cameron Munster as a comparative player, or Benji. Where are they best for the team? I get it we paid him huge marquee money, but why not pair him with a steady playmaker? What’s worked his whole career?

There's been a million of them....
Jamie Soward is the most dominant game managing 6 I can remember...

Everything went through him.
