Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I'd prefer to keep Doueihi....

I saw Lomax take the mickey out of his coach on national television, Not just a slight jab...
It was dis-respectful.

If that's the base he sets for himself I don't want him near the place....
Especially around so many impressionable young blokes and a non experienced coaching team.

Let him rot in the Red V....
My thinking is that WT would flick him but that's purely based on his current price....which I think is $600k + at the moment.

At a minimum wage (or close to) based on his ACL history, I would keep him.

Ivan's always liked him, he initially asked for Simpkin when we tried to get Laurie early in 2021 preseason.

Parramatta have had a sniff here and there. NQ might look at him due to Granville retiring. St George's hookers are hopeless. he'll find a contract for sure.
I can see him going to Parra, even the Chooks might have a look. B. Smith can't play 80 mins.

‘I want to stay’: Why Utoikamanu’s committed to Tigers despite get-out clause

Stefano Utoikamanu insists he hopes to stay with the Wests Tigers – and declared Michael Maguire’s weekend Origin camp snub has only made him more determined to wear the NSW jersey this season.
If the Tigers fail to make the finals, Utoikamanu can exercise a clause in his contract to sign elsewhere at the end of this year.

The club inserted a clause of their own that blocked his early exit if he played a second game for the blues by the end of 2024.

The 23-year-old front-rower has been flattered by the speculation over his future, but declared he wanted to pledge his allegiance to new coach Benji Marshall and the club.

“I’m trying to focus on making the top eight, that’s what I want to do – I want to stay at the Tigers,” Utoikamanu told this masthead.

“I’ve loved every minute I’ve been here. They’ve given me my big opportunity to become the player I am now.

“I want to give back to the club. We’ll see what happens. I haven’t listened [to speculation].

Benji is big on ‘team first’, and putting others before yourself, so that’s what I’m trying to do.”

Pressed on whether he could leave if there was an opportunity before the mid-season cut-off, especially if the Tigers were well out of the finals race, Utoikamanu said: “If something like that did arise, and something happened, my manager would sort it out.”

Utoikamanu debuted for NSW last year, was left out of the 35-man Blues squad on the weekend, but confirmed he had received a call from Maguire, who used to coach him at the Tigers.

“He gave me a call, he said he wasn’t going to include me in the squad, but he didn’t really say too much else; he said, ‘Play good footy and it will all sort itself out’,” Utoikamanu said.

“It will only motivate me not being in that squad, especially because I played last year, and I want to play more this year. I’ll push for a spot in that team again.”

Tigers skipper Api Koroisau said retaining Utoikamanu beyond this season was vital to the club’s chances of success. “Stef is a valuable part of this Tigers team. Nobody wants to lose someone like Stef,” Koroisau said.

“If we can keep him, we’d love to, and there’s no way we’d let him go anywhere. It’s up to us to have a great year.”
Meanwhile, Utoikamanu said he was glad there was a coronial inquest into the deathof his good friend Keith Titmuss, and at the very least hoped his family could have some closure over his 2020 death.

“It’s still so sad, I feel devastated. He was one of my best mates,” Utoikamanu said. “I feel devastated for his family. They didn’t have the answers they wanted. I miss him a lot. I think of him all the time. It’s already been a few years. It feels like it was yesterday.
It’s all just talk until he signs on for another 3 years at a decent rate, and I like his little get out clause in that piece “my manager will sort it out”.

I did take much notice of Lomax’s form last year so I can’t say much there, but I’m not keeping Douhie at any price. When his contract is up he must go.

thing is as well is that there is a dearth of specialist hookers across the league. Simpkin certainly has his flaws but I do think a club will back themselves to get the best out of him and promise him regular first grade, something that I think he almost certainly will be getting less of as time goes on if he were to stay at WT.
He's a very solid little player. Easy to forget he only turned 22 a few months back...

If we didn't have Api on board and TDS coming through, there's every likelihood he'd be one of the first picked in my opinion.

He's pretty unlucky, considering he plays at the dual wooden spooners, that he happens to play in probably our most well-covered position.

He definitely has something to offer another club, I just don’t think it’s us. I’d be interested to see how he’d go in the Panthers system.
Hard to know...
Was overlooked by the Qld sides to be signed by us, and hasn't done much here...
I know it was sold to us as some sort of coup at the time, But maybe that's all it was....
Those QLD teams certainly haven't missed him.

Is off contract and not been signed already is also an odd one considering the depth at 9 in the comp.

Funny all the guys crapping on Liddle here and since he's been gone....
He's still the better player out of the 2.

The only way i'd keep Doueihi is on a 1 yr extension on greatly reduced $$ to prove his fitness and see where we can slot him in for the future.
There's clearly no space in the halves and his $$ are likely allocated elsewhere, so i doubt he sticks around he'd want security because he can't trust his body. But nether should we, we have nursed him through 2 of his 3 ACL's when you're looking for value for money that isnt it unfortunately.

Says he wants to stay, but when pressed was non committal and gave the standard "Mitch Moses" line "manager to sort out"...rubbish

They're basically spoon-fed what to say these days their manager.

The manager's best interest is to keep options open, even if it's not best for the fanbase of the player.

I agree that everything should just be forthrightly hosed down by the player, but they're usually kids in their 20's who have been given a script in these types of situations.

Just on Lomax, I had a very similar feeling about him as you do. However I've been told by an ex Saints player that he is the most professional player there and sets great standards. Really cares. This players said most of the group, including Hunt don't give a rats. It surprised me as I really thought he was a nob.

Even visually, the Bears never got a look in as the Northern Eagles. Looking back, it was just Manly taking a 3 year get away to the Central Coast for some R&R.
Yep, the Northern Eagles was just a Manly takeover of the Bears. The Wests Tigers merger has at least been shared reasonably even and fair although now the Balmain faction is on life support.

I've heard the same about Lomax. If you tell a bunch of players to do 20 pushups a few will do 20, some will do 19. Lomax is the kind of player to do 25. Nobody cares more than he does.

Possible....
Pretty sure he was part of BBQGate though wasn't he?

(Then wouldn't co-operate or make a statement or some such)

Just spitballing here ... considering Lomax is slow, on an 'overs' salary for a centre but is a consumate professional with decent ball skills, could he evolve into a backrower?

Lomax was definitely at the infamous BBQ and was fined by police and the NRL.

I think you guys may be getting confused with him being one of the only players to attend the Dragons presentation night at the end of 2022, which caused a bit of controversy.
