Nostalgia

Berala take away !!!!
We must have grown up near each other mate.
35c hamburgers, too !!!
Gosh it's a small world. I finished year 6 at Berala Public in 1973. One thing I did forget to mention about the Berala Takeaway... After scoffing the chiko rolls and potato scallops my brother and I would go halves in a warm can of Big Boy Lemonade in the steel can. The takeaway guy would ask us if we wanted a couple of straws for the lemonade. We'd have to knock him back of course, only fairies used straws!

We must be the same vintage. I went to the Catholic primary school on Wellington Rd, then Benno's, did hsc in 79.
Back in the day, we'd drag our billycarts around looking for bottles to trade in.
5c each, in 1970 !!! You only get 10c each now, 50+ years later. Do the inflationary math on that !!.
Once we had enough for a burger and chips ( 8 bottles ), straight to the Berala hamburger shop.
As for the straws in the drinks . . . not only do fairies use them, nowadays they want to make them out of recycled crap so the fairies of tomorrow will still be able to operate drink cans.

I'm restoring an FC ute at the moment - as a commercial it didn't come with indicators, radio, heater or chrome aroudn the lights. I am tossing up between keeping the original "no indicators" or upgrading. The one in the photo is an FE (56) so didn't have indicators either. A modern convenience then.

A bit of trivia for you - only the FE/FC Specials came out with door locks on the drivers door. The standards and commercials only had them on the passenger side. This was to allow those that purchased specials to enter the vehicle from the driver's side when the car was parked in a driveway. At that time it was illegal to enter a vehicle from the driver's side when parked on the street because it was a safety issue with passing traffic.

I'm keeping the driver's side door original along with the bench seat and 3 on the tree for nostalgia purposes but am warming the old grey up a bit with triple su carbies and a bit of head/bottom end work. No need to rush getting anywhere in an FC nowadays!
Thanks champion @Jolls - a great mission you're on.
And almost every day I come across someone who foolishly opens their driver's side door without looking at what traffic is around - didn't know that

Lowes used to give them shirts with their names on them as part of the ad deals.
You can see Sam and Cliffy are pretty happy about it coz they’ll now be able to sign their name properly on the next contract. The Zip Zip man is still mesmerised by a camera and doesn’t know to smile in a photo yet.
If only that were true🤣
