I disagree.Everything above is exactly why Justin failed.
A CEO leads, they establish controls/structure/governance and early on simplify the decision makers to then gradually grow the scope towards the plan. They then focus on the team around them often 3-6mths from appointment to build an executive/team that can execute to the required plan.
The board embraces the change and dynamics that flow as part of their decision process. They want a change not same old.
Knowledge of the inner workings isn’t critical day 1 especially when an organization hasn’t been performing for an extended time.
Richo needs to be oblivious to it on purpose he needs to focus top down and have confidence in who he drives into leader roles and other positions they will deliver. He will head into structure mode soon enough and I expect a few more people to be moved on.
If Justin could download all those aspects then it highlights even more so how bad a CEO he was as he ignored them & couldn’t action them.
Experience however in being an executive in the field they are employed is critical which Richo has.
The board has the plan and vision and especially our ex board featuring an interventional Lee, keen to show the world who is boss.
Richo can’t change what he doesn’t understand. His formative days at the club were spent learning about its operations. I am happy to confirm that with him when I get the opportunity at a club event. I’ve met him before, he’s happy to engage with anyone if it’s constructive. You should ask him too.
If he doesn’t understand the club, he can’t deploy the changes he thinks are necessary.
Justin was always present at the behest of the board, there is no way around that fact.
CEOs analyse and assess the beast they are supposed to manage. Otherwise they run the risk of courting disaster.
Justin should be approached and his understanding of the club and it’s operations taken into account on Richos Assessment.
And we needed change sure and we agree that by and large Richos changes seem Ok, but we have a long way to go.
Richo won’t get everything right, no CEO does.
He wants to be careful about who he sacks and who he retains.
We’ve seen him take out a few soft targets already such as the gear steward.
How the gear steward contributed to the spoons and the general denigration of the club remains unknown. A bit of a laugh on its face.
We all want Richo to succeed, we all think he’s the best candidate to help us, but I’m remaining open to criticism and questioning all club decisions.
That’s my right and my role as a member. If I care, I speak up and speak out. If I’m wrong, fine.
And as @Tucker can vouch for, there was no bigger critic of the old regime than me. Lee would have more than enough material to bankrupt me, several times over and enough to keep my descendants in perpetual poverty for 4 generations.
Let’s take a measured approach to all serious matters concerning our beloved club.
The club is on its knees, beaten to a bloody pulp, gizzards hanging everywhere…and one of the priority decisions is to sack the gear steward?
If that doesn’t raise an eyebrow and a wry smile, nothing will.
