Officials bias campaign

The try on half time wasn't a penalty to Canberra the player just dropped the ball no tiger's player had a hand on the ball, should've been a tiger's scrum

One thing that I don’t think many grasp is that being a weaker team also means your discipline is poor, hence why it gives off the perception that clubs like ours are always targeted. We aren’t. Would be nice if we could just own the fact that we were rubbish after a performance like that, without some minor little get out “yeah, I know we were crap, but……..”. Eliminate the buts. Eliminate the persecution complex.

Supporters of "shit " teams have known of this concept for a while.
Because shit teams don't matter.
Our problems started when a raider was laying across the feet of our d/half early in the game, and he had to awkwardly step over him, leading to a poor pass, leading to the 16 minute demolition of our side.
That should have been our penalty, instead it lead to them exposing our other big problem . . . our defence.
But yes, sly decisions like that, coupled with the smoke and mirrors of the 6 again rule, and Bingo !! it's 0-16.

There's no bias. Good teams make their own luck. We haven't in 10 years.
My Pop, and his son, were both first grade refs. Pop also did the line, was a NRL ref assistant coach then the NRL refs head coach, and head of NRL refs. He used to say that line all the time and to a degree he is correct. Good teams do make their own luck.
But as a very close bystander to 50 years of watching refs, there most certainly is a bias, and not just in the NRL. It happens in all competitions, in every sport all over the world. There have been European soccer and NFL studies I’ve read that show statistically, that refs have a bias towards the consistently top and/or wealthy teams, and it goes all the way down to grass roots level.
And all that is just the subconscious bias. There is also the conscious bias that also happens. I know for a fact that players that badger a ref will be penalised more often. As soon as that player or his team makes the smallest mistake they will be dealt with in the harshest degree possible. Especially if such player is not an immortal (insert pic of the best game manipulator here), (prick, still hate ya cam). So if you don’t wanna be bored by study papers, take it from someone who has personally live with and love a referee, but also hated them due to their inability to see their unconscious bias, there is a ref bias against the consistently lower ranked or poorer teams, especially if that team has an average ability loudmouth.

Another rule or part of the game that has been ruined, cause and effect? Idiots. I can’t stand the way players get away with laying in the ruck, pretending to be tangled up or just being outright lazy. This use to get penalised, but dummy halves were taking advantage, milking, by passing the ball into the lazy player ti get the penalty, so they changed the rule. Now players know they won’t get penalised so they lay around in the ruck causing any hinderance possible till a dummy halve knocks on or makes an error and then their teammates will high five the unpenalised lazy defender for hindering the other team into a mistake.
Oh, it’s great viewing.
1.5 mins into the year and the shite refs and shite rules from the shite NRL have gone against us. If Tigpies weren’t in my blood, I’d struggle to watch footy at all.
And as been already said, the six again rule allows a ref to fluff over his mistakes and manipulate the game.

I'd like to start a thread where we address weekly the sub concious bias we see against lower teams by officials. In no way am I saying it cost us today, we deserved to lose. However we need to do something. We know journos read the forum and we have to start calling this stuff out. Start a campaign.

The dogs were hammered last night, and then today we lose every 50/50 call until the game is over, then we start to get them.

The hip drop no sin binning is simply disgusting. If that was against the team favoured to win he is gone to the bin 100%. But because it was against the team expected to lose it doesn't happen.

Same with the Sezer stripping rule. If that's Canberra they stay with the onfield decision.

This is not a Tigers thing, let's start highlighting all games that have this. It will never end until it's continually called out.

we have never had a coach strong enough to call it out in press conferences. That would help, just like Payten showed. I'm baffled why we don't take a 10k fine and make a real statement about it. It's turning me off Rugby League.

So please, after any game you feel this bias has happened, highlight it here.
Not to mention the worst of the lot, and that's the play by play 6 again calls. They always go unnoticed but they are the real cheating bias in place. 6 again for the favoured team for no reason while the unfavoured team get held down much longer for no 6 again. It's blatant game manipulation by offals.
I was also baffled by theses 6 agains, especially in the first 30 min. which gave Canberra 78% possession rate. Makes it hard to come back from there.

Great post mate. I will take note of what you said and I stand corrected. I suppose I just get the shits with countless fans blaming bias and poor refereeing when we lose. It can't always be because of refs. I'd still say the tiniest minority of times the refs have swayed the end result.

Thanks champ we get that!
Still the refs were appalling, several key moments in the game went the Faiders way. It’s a joke and no surprise that when Payten called them out in it, everything changed for them.

What about that idiot Faiders player just standing there in the way of the play of the ball with his hands in the air. Not moving, not trying to move away, and the peanut ref doin nothing!!

Sorry, but I disagree.
The fact we are talking about refs swaying results says everything.
Sure it happens, and happens across the board - but worse when it's against the strugglers.
And yes, it doesn't' matter in every game where class prevails - BUT sometimes. fairness is needed just to "right the ship."
Even the cursed bunker was brought in to attempt to correct things.
It's a lose-lose situation.

Shit teams.cant compete and.need to resort to infringing once it's clear the Ruck is being lost... It's why they're pinged more.often.than the better teams that often win the ruck
GnR is spot on

I see Jerome Hughes will. Miss a game because the ref got in his way when he's trying to save a try and Butler got pushed over... There was no penalty during the game

Yep top teams cop it ALL the time

The worst I have ever seen was the 2014! Season riding Souths to the Grand Final

I said to a mate last night that Hughes might be in trouble for that.
Bloody ridiculous.
