Wests Tigers Home Ground Mega Thread

It always comes back to the same old argument about Wests and Balmain !
So you’re suggesting let’s get funding for CS and forget LO.
I think this is why Richo might be thinking of dumping both grounds and saying “ we are the Wests Tigers and this is where we play “. Wherever that is.
Balmain and Wests are dead, except in memory , and in their place we have this shiny new club called Wests Tigers.
We’ve now been going 25 years and are still talking about this merger and the ramifications.
Agreed.

Wests Tigers need their own stadium.

I think it’s a case of severing ties to LO and CS.

We won't be playing a t Campbo, so don't worry.
We won't be playing at Leichhardt either.
The man has spoken. He wants us in a stadium that holds 50000 and is good for the corporates.
Richo has said that embracing the South West doesn't necessarily involve playing games there.
It'll be Accor.
I reckon it'll be Accor until the time is right to secure guaranteed funding for a renovated and enlarged CSS.

Best thing fans / members can do is keep filling up LO & CS on game day and spending $$ in the local businesses. Richo is clearly threatening these local govt areas that we’re about to pull a bucket load of cash out of your local area unless you put some polish on your stadiums. Inner West and Campbelltown would be crazy to take away NRL from their communities. 100% there will be a public backlash.
He doesn’t take the softly softly approach like old tracky dacks.
💯 agree with you re. Richo "doesn't take the softly softly approach".
He's a hard task master Imo, in that he knows what he want's, what the WT's need and how to get it, and he'll achieve in getting that done.

After nearly 25 years of existence as Wests Tigers and using either Leichardt or Campbelltown as home grounds there are fans that have an affiliation with the grounds who have no link to either of the foundation clubs but jumped on board in the Benji era. Their interest in maintaining the suburban grounds would based on their history as Wests Tigers fans.

Check my post again. It's simple. CO has better infrastructure, accessibility etc. The government has stated that there's no
money for LO. Forget it.

.

for a 21st century spectator experience in a state govt that has run out of $$$....the choices for WTs are in reality Alliance or Combank.
Neither are optimal..both have disadvantages..
But LO finished, and CO too far for significant chunk of supporter base...we need to move forward....and no future govt is willing to fund nostalgia for legacy sports stadiums vs critically needed infrastructure
Separately..bad idea to schedule local derby at LO last we..Im blaming Pascoe like everything else!

You remind me of a restauranter who's going out of business because his food's crap but doesn't want to change the menu because 2 old geezers come in for the early bird special and he'll lose those "regulars".
Richo's trying to give the club a future.
Leichhardt is the past. Campbelltown as it is, is the past, Lidcombe is the past. Pratten Park is the past.
Things change. Move on people.
By your definition playing in Perth is fine. Your example is ridiculous. Like seriously, use your brain.

There are no suitable stadiums for us to move to in Sydney currently.

The genius that was Pascoe had the same bright idea of Richo. Eventually he admitted defeat too and changed to suit the demand of the members.

If we abandon the areas we represent then many of the people we people we are supposed to represent will also abandon the club.

Both LO and Campbelltown are pretty dire places to watch a live game for anyone but the absolute diehards or those who live very locally.

Both remind me a bit a bit of a bloke I saw at a high school reunion recently, nice enough fella, but stuck in the past while the rest of the world has moved on.

I've had great times at both stadiums but it's time we move on as a club. A lot of people in 2024 won't pay $50 to line up for 15 minutes to use a toilet that resembles a dungeon or for some stale old hot chips. If we're serious about getting better numbers, we need to offer a better experience for the majority.

By all means have a heritage round like the Dogs do at Belmore, but we should be aiming higher.
So your solution is that all Sydney based clubs should just share stadiums, with no home ground advantage? No more suburban stadiums??

You really think toilet cubicles differ from stadia to stadia? It's all essentially the same thing. Except for the Morrison dunnies, but no one actually ever uses them.

We should just play all our future matches in a neutral venue??

It's moreso that corrupt Liberal governments have only funded stadium upgrades in safe Liberal seats, or in Penriths case, to Hope to bribe locals into voting for them, which still failed. Why is it the Labor government has morals where the Libs just serve themselves

Would playing at Homebush abandone the inner west?

It would be ironic if our last ever game there was against a Brooks.led Manly team and a field goal was all that separated the teams...

Could be worse I guess - could be Souths

Hard to. Imagine no LO or Cambo... We've sort of had a taste of it but there was always a few games at the suburban hrounds
Souths have made it work... Not sure if the Dogs have played semis since they moved to Homebush full time... But we've see it isn't impossible to be succesful playing out of Homebush full time... Doesnt really bother me either way though as an old. Magpie from Lidcombe era I probably would miss Leichhardt more than Cambo which I have no connection to whatsoever

One thing I don't. Understand is people that put the ground before the team... I personally think a lot of this is BS talk... If one was that passionate one woda ditched the whole show when the merger first went ahead... And many did I know for a fact.

We finally look to have something of a future with the team on the paddock... Suck it up and get out to Homebush (if that's where we end up in all lielihood) and support the team
At least we still have a team to support

They slug us for tax at every fkn corner, not much to expect some of it to go back into community facilities. Not everyone is using schools and hospitals.
No money, but the politicians keep getting their fat salaries paid on time each fortnight.

How NSW is 180 billion in debt is beyond me.

Kent supposedly spoke to V'Landys and he said he'd be open to buying Leichhardt if it was offered to the NRL.

I heard ‘open to consider the NRL buying it if it was offered to them.’
What does that mean though?
If you seriously want to buy something you start talking with the owners, don’t you?
Or does PVL have a serious interest and is approaching gently so as not to pay too much?

I'm not a Homebush fan, but the nomadic home ground thing isn't helping.

Long days to go in the stadium matter.

Let see how this plays out
Leichhardt has a certain nostalgic value, as do Pratten Park & Lidcombe Oval. But the future of the Wests Tigers has got to be based on moving all home games to a better Campbelltown stadium (the Macarthur area is the largest growing area in the southern hemisphere). All these worldwide expansion plans from Peter V'Landys and the NRL and they cannot see the potential that is right under their noses in Campbelltown. They should be joining forces with the Wests Tigers to pressure the NSW and Federal Governments for a brand new Campbelltown Stadium (25,000 seats and undercover). The Tigers can then train at the Centre for Excellence at Concord and play 100% of their home games at Campbelltown.

Wests Tigers do not have a home ground, spiritual or otherwise. LO .may be sacred turf for Balmain supporters but not Wests supporters. CO also needs an upgrade but for fans convenience it's the pick. Railway station next to the ground, M5 very close and the Leagues club next-door. Plenty of parking as well. It would only need another grandstand and some upgraded facilities in the old stand. With a competitive team and heaps of local junior's coming through fans would pack the place
There is no wests ! There is no Balmain ! You’re both dinosaurs , and anybody making a decision with people who carry on with this bullshit in mind … is on the road to nowhere

Good post.

Team support is NO longer bound by geography.

Fans and good players are attracted to success.

we need to really own the Macarthur region and ensure that the players aspire yo play for the Wests Tigers
