Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

One of the few times a release is actually a positive for both parties. He’s surplus to us, but can easily offer something to another club. Just not sure what the point is in releasing him when he was off contract anyway. We aren’t freeing up any cash for 25 by releasing him. Anyway, good luck to him. Deserves a regular gig somewhere.

I’m a bit skeptical of the posts suggesting that ex-players such as Talau are playing better in other sides specifically due to better coaching. These guys have been playing top level footy for half their lives and know how to play. It’s now about individual desire, effort and fitness. Performance dictated by a higher standard due to the type of players around you. Talau now has guys around him able to put him into space and time passes that he simply needs to catch. Forwards that dominate and halves that control the play. I think his performance is more related to this than something magical that Siebold has coached into him in a few months.
I argue that Talau for example hasn’t changed much at all as a player.
I would say he’s confidence has improved not thinking if he makes a mistake he will get benched next week.
Once they have the confidence and think they below in the NRL
their whole game changes.

The rest of the team can absorb a coach killing error. I think both brooks and talau are playing at the same level as they were for us.

He is, but we would still need a capable back up halfback, both Galvin and Latu Fainu have always been 5/8’s and never been the type of players to take on all the first receiver responsibility which a halfback is responsible for.
I understand we signed Sullivan to be a more genuine halfback, but it could be seen as he is now also considered more of a 5/8 style second receiver and it’s no point having 3 or 4 of them.
A lot cheaper to keep Sezer for another year as a plausible backup.

No funds free for 25, but frees up cash for 24. Perhaps to front load, upgrade or bring someone in.

The season is over anyway...the cash is more valuable than the player.

Wasn't there something about money saved against the cap one year can be used the next? Might have something to do with Simpkin's release. Manly following in the Sharks footsteps of being the safe haven of ex-Tigers. Funny how they go from incompetent according to the media in a Tigers jersey to 'stars' to fit a narrative when they move on....

He'll play semi finals at Manly long before he would have at the Tigers.

In regard to moving players like Sullivan on- someone touched on something I've been thinking about for a while.

Remember when the Tigers & Storm had that swap deal with Harry Grant & Momorovski?

Why don't NRL clubs align with SL clubs for similar deals? The English Football competition (soccer) allows for season long loans between clubs to get young players or excess players game time at other clubs.

Why couldn't we loan Sullivan out for a season? Gives him valuable game time against good competition, develops the player & nobody loses- Tigers get a Top 30 spot free, Sullivan earns his full contract between 2 clubs, the SL club gets a 'probable' upgrade at halfback for a year. Why can't loan deals for rising youth players happen? Latu Fainu could benefit from exposure to first team football at a SL club. TDS. Fa'agutu etc.

It would be the same for most NRL clubs I'm sure.

It could also give clubs that develop their own talent the opportunity to keep those players on their books instead of losing them to other NRL clubs promising to give them their opportunity...

The Simpkin possible release is interesting, because the only thing we gain is a roster spot for the remainder of the season and roughly half a years salary. He was never on our books for next year so there is no long term gain.

So is there a swap or another player from another club in the mix or are we just giving the kid a break. I actually think he is not far off being a serviceable NRL player, not an elite, but your meat and potato style player. I guess TDS is the no9 next in line and we have a club full of meat and potato standard players. Fingers crossed we have a player like Skelton lined up
Jake never got a run With plenty of time on the field , shame as I think he will, become a good solid club player
