The Olam/ Blore swap is a classic example ….we improve the outside backs but at the cost of letting go an up and coming forward … why couldn’t Olam have been obtained whilst keeping Blore ? We let players go early all the time and never get anyone in return..

Even next year with Luia and Turuva coming… we will be down Ice and maybe Stef … spinning our wheels and staying the same as a squad whilst everyone else improves isn’t a great recipe for success …

I blame the past management of the Wests Tigers though for this situation .. more than the Player Agents … although I dont understand the call to let Ice go… I’m hoping that he will be replaced with a player of similar skill and experience… seems unlikely though …

I think everything is done lately to get some decent shape in our salary cap. Ice is on about $750k next year, Simpkin is on $400k, Naden is supposed to be on $400k.

It beggars belief that we have so many near reserve graders on $400k or thereabouts.

Im starting to take some of these figures with a grain of salt ….i just can’t believe even Pascoe could be so dumb as to throw these overpayments at some of these duds…

Supposely Penrith paid full freight on Ice … i think the $750k figure might be BS ..when he signed the figure quoted at the time was $600k a year

Blore was on 500k too remember

Edit: also it's been said that Ice had a ratchet clause in his contract meaning only year 1 was 650k. Year 2 and 3 are 750k.

So……. Stef is rejecting the offer we made and testing the market ? Has he actually signed or indicated signing somewhere else ?
Literally every half decent player out there is doing the exact same thing . We just watched Fifita back flip , Moses send us and the dogs on a wild goose chase etc.
Most players don’t leave thier clubs .
I will react to the Stef news when he actually leaves , until then I’mnot going to jump at shadows , because , As others have indicated , whilst Ted has the potential to be Payne Hass lite , he also has long spells in games where he looks like the second coming Tamou at the tigers .
Whilst he’s fit and strong , I think the league is moving towards players like Reuben Cotter and TBH Pole , whilst he too is a work in progress .
For me we need players with an offload .
Twal gets his arms free just about every tackle but rarely offloads .
Stef has a PTB about as slow as anyone’s in the game as well . And the Klemmer backing up to standing for 5 seconds then playing the ball kills us as well .
I give Flanno credit at the dragons , because they must have spent the whole offseason wrestling to find thier front and getting to thier feet to stick a ball between thier legs . Such is the night and day contrast to speed at the ruck .
Too many of our players allow themself to be turned , and if not dominated , at the very least controlled in the ruck .
Stef is exhibit A of this . Smashes bloke 1 too the fence then bloke 2 and 3 grab him and hold him up . Rinse repeat .

If they can free up 600k by sacking May, Stef's best bud Papalii just signed there and they still need to replace Fisher-Harris.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if that's how it ends up.

If we are talking about someone paying overs to lure in Stef then I wouldn't look past the Dogs. Gus is very quiet anytime Stefanos situation is mentioned anywhere and he has said in the past the Dogs have $ but are just looking to spend it on forwards. I'd say he is a very good chance of getting 850 - 900k from them.

A slightly different topic, but I noticed a big smile and conversation which very much looked like things coming off that they had been working on from Trent Barrett and the Eels coaching box after a ori g a try from a nicely worked different shape last weekend.
