OFFICIAL Lachlan Galvin #277 *Released* Career Discussion.

The club has every right to seek to balance the cap and fill gaps in the squad.

Secondly, these players are not regular first graders on decent contracts. If they can get a start elsewhere, it benefits both parties.

If it's by mutual decision, it's fine. The Galvin situation is not mutual.
Shopping any player around to off load them is not by mutual decision. Sullivan and Klemmer finding they would be shopped around contradicts what Richo has stated about contracts. Tartak isnt going to settle for anything less for what his player to contracted for, he has quite of number of kids in the top 30 so dealing with him is going to be very difficult for us.

I am all for our club to balance their salary cap to what it needs to be so its optimised but the correction that is needed here is a huge. Even after a few players like Sullivan,Klemmer, Papalilli and anyone else they can move is done, what is there in the market to bring in, its clearly not much better, especially when we need to pay over to attract a player to our club. Luai had to be lured with $300-400k more per season than what Penrith offered him, even the high spending Bulldogs pulled out late.

We also have very little depth with all the young kids that have been signed to top 30 deals for next year. Many of them couldn't dominate SG Ball this year. I feel for Richo and Benji there is a huge mess to clean up,

Can’t see him extending his contract anytime soon, even if he will be forced to see out his current deal on average coin. Moses is like a dog with a bone, he will keep banging on the door for the release and the publicity it generates has a extremely negative affect on the club.

Also it would probably suit a team to get him in a few years down the track when he is a hardened NRL player.

If and when they reject our offer I would get Latu into no6 and use Galvin as a 14
Poor Latu Fainu has hamstring issues it was one of the reasons why Manly didn't re-sign him. The kid is a freak but has had continual issue for the last 3 years. Hopefully he finds his way out of this recurring chronic issue.

Mate this lot is coming last. What's your solution? Keep them all?

I guess me and Wayne will just have to disagree with you.
He was cooked. Luai now is a much better player than Wally was at that stage of his career.
Wally was also very disliked by his own teammates at the Gold Coast.

The QLD State of Origin selectors who picked him for the series in 1991 agreed with me … Mark Geyer didn’t think he was cooked when he backed down from him

Quite a few people on here talked him up to the moon and back and I find it strange the NO ONE mentioned this when waxing lyrical about this kid last year.

Luai is a professional athlete, trained to within an inch of his life and provided with the best of everything.
You cannot compare him to a bloke who had none of these same conveniences.

I'd be happy to clear out more of our low IQ low effort players in the squad & add 3-4 more high effort, workhorse trainers to the team to help set the standard (like Luai & Turuva). Players like Jack Williams (Sharks), Morgan Knowles (St Helens), Matty Lees (St Helens) etc.

Origin isn't club football.
The truth is that Wally's reputation was entirely built on Origin, but we're comparing them as club players aren't we
At club level he never excelled. He only played 80 games over 5 seasons, 3 of those with an Origin standard team that under achieved. The Broncos only dominated once Kevvie ousted Wally.
Wayne sacked Wally because he was lazy trainer who was unpopular with his teammates and Kevvie was simply a better player at that stage.
To compare prime Luai to a broken-down prima donna is ridiculous. The Geyer reference is meaningless.
I can only assume you're too young to remember that time and you're repeating urban legend.

I mentioned the Origin thing because you said he “was cooked “ when he went to the GC…

Whilst he was obviously not at his best .. he was still a more than capable player to be having the impact he did in the 1991 series …the highest level of the game

The side the Broncos had in 92-93 was much superior to the team that Wally played with .. he had a personality clash with Bennett and got moved on … no surprises there right ?

You still seem to miss the original point I was making .. Luia needs more help to make a difference to this WT team … do you really think differently?

Is the Galvin stuff real , or sensationalist nonsense again ?
The Stef stuff is meh IMO . He is not worth a mil a year . IMO we should let him walk and get 2 above average hardnuts.
And the Galvin stuff is also Meh . If he wants to go then unless your offering an elite back rower as compensation than the answer is no .
He’s a weapon , no doubt , but with Latu waiting the wings and Makasini (centre I know) and Large also coming through , it’s the one area we can leverage into strengthening another area .
he’s the one I’d like to have kept the most , but that’s also recency bias , as much as anything . We haven’t seen Fainu in the halves yet or fully fit and Large is 16/ 17. I will say this ! Fainu chose to come here knowing how shit we were going to be .
like I said , if Galvin wants to go , I honestly don’t care , but uncle Moses needs to front up and score us an edge back rower of real quality , otherwise his star 18 year old will be stuck here , and if Fainu comes good then there’s a real chance , Lachie could be starting for the magpies next year . Such is the fickle nature and “what have you done for me lately “mentality of professional sports . Look at Adam Doueihi . Was the next captain … until he wasn’t .
Not to mention Luai is the current NSW 6. So you know … we have strong bargaining power on this one

If the club holds strong & doesn't sink it's future into Galvin, this gives Fainu vs Galvin to be Luai's partner in the halves real competition.

I STILL believe Fainu is the better 5/8.

Galvin just looks like an edge forward of the future to me. Wade Graham/Gavin Miller/Liam Fulton/Josh Schuster type. Probably more Graham.

I agree mate .
I find all the whinging because he had only with a sore hand to be very Matterson like re. Attitude . At the very least it’s the same play book as . Claim negligence to agitate for a release .
What’s the go with players from Parra having shit attitudes . Matterson , Moses , Stef ( maybe) , Galvin … that can’t be a coincidence .

I'm optimistic that this will be a distant memory this time next year. He's 18 and wants to win. Next year he gets an origin level halves partner. If we can sort out our three-quarters it would certainly help...

I think that's what a lot of us hope once Luai get here, no doubt he will drive culture. Hopefully they all buy in and as a collective him and Api can make the difference.
