Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

I think a million for Stefano is madness and I don't genuinely think any club would pay that to take him from us.

I want him to stay but he's not in the same league as a guy like Haas or JWH.
If he plays every game like he has the last two you could make the case - until then he’s worth at the very most 800-850k and that could be viewed as generous.

If any team offers him a million and he goes then there’s not much you can do…. everyone talks about the Roosters but Gus will be onto him like a rash. I think dogs will make him a very competitive offer and in fairness to then have shown this season they can be a top 8 team.

If we keep winning games and show fight I think Stefano’s mind can be changed - however I still think we’re a little far from that.

I think nas will surprise a lot of people at the end of this year Bellamy knows he needs a fresh bad for the finals series he’s just keeping him on the bench so he’s fresh for the finals

Reports about to come out tomorrow that the club has identified Nelson Asofa-Solomona as the replacement option if Stefano is to depart the club.

Thoughts?
NAS is past it

Struggles to play to his potential art the storm

Would be nothing more than big average here

If Stef left and NAS came as our leading front rower we might as well throw the towel in now

Stefano playing for WT is worth 800k max

Stefano winning a lot of games in a top 4 side which likely earns him a Kangaroos jumper - what’s he worth then?

It’s about the crystal ball.

From what i have heard, Stefano is open to staying but is looking for a bigger deal as some other clubs would be willing to offer up to 1 million a season based on the market. There are some clubs out there desperate for a prop, and props are now top 3 in highest paid positions in the game after fullbacks and halfbacks. For perspective:

Haas, Tino, AFB, Taumalolo, Jake Trbojevic and JFH are all on 1mil+ a season.
Tapine, NAS, Saifiti brothers, Paulo and RCG are in the 900k range.

Stef along with Leota, Cotter and Collins would roughly make up the top 15 props in the game.

Stefano is younger than all those players and not yet in his prime so is looking for his pay day based on the current market.

Stef is meeting with Richo and Benji this week so hopefully they can get a deal done. Anything less than a million a season would be really good business based on the current market, especially given he is only 24 and has his prime ahead of him.

i would be throwing his current contract clauses straight back at him in any new contract, maybe offer $850 k with the possibility of earning up to $1m for state of origin selection, top 8 result for the team etc.

Wong's lack of game time this season underlines the enormous strength of the Roosters squad. If he is disillusioned and wants out he could be a huge coup for us.
Take a look at their team, remembering that Suaalii is out, and then tell me there's a salary cap.
That team should be going through undefeated on the way to their 5th straight premiership.

If roosters are seriously the competition then I wouldn’t be increasing the offer. Just weakens our position. Teddy went there for considerably “less”.

He can have $650k with an incentive to get $800k if he plays 3 Origins next year, we make the Grand Final and he wins Daly M prop of the year.

These contracts are a joke, who makes this shit up.

I really struggle to see what makes Stef a $1 million dollar player or an 800k player or a 600k player.

He averages 10 hit ups for 112 metres at 95.7 tackle efficiency.

Lawn mower man Oshay Olay, Josh Aloia averages11.2 hit ups for 114 metres at 95.8 tackle efficiency.

Are we offering lawn mower man 1 million?

I’d pay $650k for him - Storm to chip in $250k is fair for someone warming the bench.

I think there’s a kiwi connection as well.
I think NAS on 650 is a lot better than Stef on a million . Not to mention that actually means salary cap wise they’re paying 1.25 for Stef , at least for a couple of years . That’s brutal !
You can jag origin level props for 650-700k. There’s no way on earth Stef is anywhere near a million a year player .
He’s not even top 10 at his position , let alone top 5 which is the level you should be at to get 1mil .
The issue is there’s teams like the dogs , dragons and even Melbourne who are short supply of props , and not much coming through in the pipeline .
We are flush with middles coming through .
We’ve got at least 3 for every age group across the Balmain , Wests and Qld regions . All highly credentialed . Most won’t work out , but the more tickets you have , the higher your chances are for a win .
Also The way Pole and Fainu play , stepping before the ad line and finding thier front for a quick play the ball , is conducive to the way the game is moving forward .
Bouncing off 2 players to make 3 extra metres for a slow play the ball standing up , might look spectacular, isn’t really helping your team .
It’s the knocking blokes flying turning and hitting api , to then hit the backs , that’s where the real advantage is for a Stef type player .
Or obviously the big runs he makes where he keeps the legs pumping for a quick play the ball . But that’s only once a game .
