Jahream Bula #269

I’ve gone off “science “ a bit these days… it’s funny how a lot of scientific studies tends to support whoever is putting up the money ? I’ve never been into religion to tell you the truth …

let’s see how long he plays at the fullback position … already some rumblings to move him..
The only rumblings to move him from Fullback are from @Vicious

18 games last year
15 games this year

5 tries last year
5 tries this year

112 tackles made, 37 missed- 75.17% tackle efficiency
88 tackles made, 24 missed- 78.57% tackle efficiency

2,863m ran for 159 per game average
2,460m ran for 164 per game average

Starting to think that argument might be wrong.
The argument IS DEMONSTRABLY WRONG!!

It's based on the "eye test" of @Vicious and then @Tom Shines followed the "rumblings"...

I think he will get better as the team gets better. Still has some development ahead of him.

regardless of how good or bad we think he is, the reality is the team he plays a key role in is coming last.

Statistically a great start to his career.

He seems to put his body on the line in defence as well as anyone.

A few times this year when our teams attack is sparkling (a rarity) he pops up all over the place, most notably against the Sharks and Raiders after half time.

This tells me he will benefit greatly if we can play some more open footy with Luai.

The missing piece of the puzzle is a competitive forward pack who can gain ascendancy and a bit more class out wide.

how would u develop Bula
He can’t be developed as a fullback as he has no idea how to assist with the playmaking and does not run the ball aggressively enough to bust tackles or make line breaks.
He does his best, but it’s a failed experiment.
Many want to blame Wests Tigers, well I watched him play for Fiji against Papua New Guinea and it was exactly the same.
Daine Laurie is a better fullback.

i think he has the smarts ,heart 4 which ever position, needs to bulk up,has the only ingredient that most of our players lack, minimal self preservation

I hope he becomes the match winner we desperately need, but I won’t hold my breath waiting for it to happen.
The inexperienced excuse is wearing thin when you watch the many other NRL fill in fullbacks come into their team and dominate from game one. Watch Kini from the Titans as an example, it’s chalk and cheese.

Bula will not be moved from fullback. He is the star in our backline and don't the opposition know it. Until Luai and Turuva arrive it is going to be tough going for Bula. In the rush to criticise, what is overlooked is that playing fullback at WTs is very different to playing fullback at the Broncos, Roosters, Storm and a few other clubs. Even more so when you make your debut at fullback for WTs. Let's give Bula a break because he does deserve it and is one of our best.
But he isn't a star. A star on our backline made up of NSW cup plodders, perhaps. He doesn't create opportunities, he doesn't facilitate breaks or offloads. If he was there yelling for the pass but our boys were incapable of offloading the ball to him then yes, being at WT could be used as an excuse. Currently other clubs regularly kick it to Bula because they know he might drop it, and if he doesn't he's unlikely to make a break or break a tackle.
If he was busting his ass and not reaping the rewards you'd have a point. But he's too carefree to throw himself into the match.

Wow, Bula in the bottom 3 or 4. Is there some mid week comp he is stinking up that I am not aware of?
He's made 2 line breaks in 15 matches! Most fullbacks make on average a break a match. He's simply not a threat in the way he's playing at the moment

I might suggest those saying Bula doesn't get involved enough actually are not paying attention.

2nd highest amount of runs (241) by a fullback in 2024 behind Kiraz, who also plays wing/centre. 5th highest run metres by a fullback (2,102m) in 2024 behind Edwards, Tedesco, Kiraz, Nicoll-Klokstad. 10th in Tackle Breaks (47) for fullbacks in 2024. 6th in Offloads by a fullback (13) in 2024.

I'll tell you where he IS in the bottom level of fullbacks.

Missed tackles. 12th in the NRL for fullbacks, with 19.

So yeah, I guess he just doesn't get involved enough or something.
You don't seem to realise that making metres isn't always a good thing. The same way that if your opponent keeps kicking off to Twals side of the field, doesn't make him a metre eater, merely that the other team don't see him as a threat. Same with Bula, opposing teams are comfortable kicking to him because he doesn't break the line, 2 line breaks all season...
