Stefano Utoikamanu #241

A good friend of mine has a brother who is part of the Parramatta organisation - in what capacity I can't remember. I do remember my friend said Parramatta were extremely disappointed with Stefano and how he hadn't come on with them. I'm starting to wonder if Stef is starting to fall into the Luke Brooks basket. Watching Luke play at Manly this year, it is clear his ceiling is lower than what I thought he could achieve. I'm truly wondering whether, despite what some commentators are saying, he might be the same - just not as good as what I thought he could be.

One thing I've been thinking about.
The way Stef has been playing, might be as good as he can be, it's just our expectations of the guy have been to high.
Maybe because of how much we pay him.
Plus the fact he has asked for more, and we are negotiating with the possibility of more $$$ to keep him, when in reality he ain't worth keeping.
Just saw this post, D man. Coincidentally I have just finished posting something similar.

Personally I don't think this is the case. Stef has had some barnstorming games this year in both attack and defence. So I that's the level we know he is capable of, not what he dished up Friday night.

Parra have two young Props from their last season's Jersy Flegg side looking like solid NRL prospects. Give them $400k each and tell Steph to piss off.

I personally hope he stays we know what he can bring we have seen him do it it’s on the club to get the consistency out of him

He started the year on fire then contract negotiations started distracting him so they put them on hold and he started playing great football again then they started talking contracts again and his form has dropped he is clearly distracted by all this

I would be devastated if he went remember the story about him coming into training on Christmas Day! No senior player told him to do that he just did it cause he wanted to be better

I agree loosing him with his potential would be a shame , he has shown he can play and I agree these contract negs have taken plenty out of this young man , but this is on him and his manager , his manager by reports is a decent bloke but doing what he is doing now is very poor , Stef looks like shit in all games , given up before he plays , so that look is what other coaches can see questioning his ability and if he is going to sook when Chios are down , manager should come in today and ask for the week off for his client as it’s doing him damage and say we will have your answer by Friday , give the kid the week off as he is just a passenger at present , do I hope he stays yes I would love to see him with Luai and Turuva and a couple more hard forwards added , I think he would go very well and so will the club

I was a big fan of Stefano, not only his game, but wanting to be a leader and captain the club one day, they were his words, but he is not playing like a $900,000 per year player, and it reeks of desperation by the Tigers. Set a standard and stick by it, if you have doubts about being there, then leave, nobody is irreplaceable. I watched the whole game on Saturday, as painful as it was. Please do not play Alexander LOBB again in the top grade, that was embarrassing. I have been saying it all year, Bateman's days are gone, so is Klemmer's watch his hitting the ball speed compared to other front rowers, his style of player is gone. Fonua POLE is a priority, he never stops trying.

We've had a few players like that come through the ranks over the years. Quite a few "up and coming halves" that either ended up in the UK or dwindled into nothing (compared to the expectations on them)

I can tell you with 99% confidence that's just not the case....
They had high hopes for him, and were gutted to lose him!!
You need to remember we signed him out from under them at 20 in the pre-season before he debuted....

Even now he's at the Tigers,
He's had some fantastic games that would get him a gig at any club.

You post couldn't be further from the Truth.

There's alot of emotion from fans around Stef right now.
Cant blame them, but also cant blame him.
Just need to sit tight and see how it plays out.
Worst case we get big Nelson, which actually could turn out better for us, he is a proven wrecking ball.

I can only quote what I was told and I did mention that. I hope you're right and we do get to see him produce high standards more consistently. He is not doing that at the moment and needs to do so to earn the coin he has been offered.

Yeah I’d prefer he stays too.
But he needs to be better.
I love how sometimes we say a bloke is playing shite bcoz contract negotiations, and then other times we say a bloke is killing it bcoz he’s in a contract year. 🤷‍♂️
How about these blokes on more $/y than most could make in ten, just turn up to work and work hard every bloody day?
And tbh if you’re looking for a pay rise wouldn’t you be working harder, especially if you want top dollar from a bigger better company.
