Stefano Utoikamanu #241

A good friend of mine has a brother who is part of the Parramatta organisation - in what capacity I can't remember. I do remember my friend said Parramatta were extremely disappointed with Stefano and how he hadn't come on with them. I'm starting to wonder if Stef is starting to fall into the Luke Brooks basket. Watching Luke play at Manly this year, it is clear his ceiling is lower than what I thought he could achieve. I'm truly wondering whether, despite what some commentators are saying, he might be the same - just not as good as what I thought he could be.

Or was expected to be.

I can only quote what I was told and I did mention that. I hope you're right and we do get to see him produce high standards more consistently. He is not doing that at the moment and needs to do so to earn the coin he has been offered.

100%....

I've noted that Parra (And the fans) get very salty when they get shafted on a player they want
(Just as they did with IP)

If he'd have stayed, He'd be the next Glen Lazarus (Even now)
But because he left, He's a busted....

Probably no different to here....

There's alot of emotion from fans around Stef right now.
Cant blame them, but also cant blame him.
Just need to sit tight and see how it plays out.
Worst case we get big Nelson, which actually could turn out better for us, he is a proven wrecking ball.
Unless there’s another reason why, like Olam, that Bellamy would let him go.
Ideal 14 !!!

I personally hope he stays we know what he can bring we have seen him do it it’s on the club to get the consistency out of him

He started the year on fire then contract negotiations started distracting him so they put them on hold and he started playing great football again then they started talking contracts again and his form has dropped he is clearly distracted by all this

I would be devastated if he went remember the story about him coming into training on Christmas Day! No senior player told him to do that he just did it cause he wanted to be better

When does a player (especially one who puts himself up as a future leader and who is on proposed big $), actually take responsibility for his performances on the field?
It’s not on the club or the coach all the time - i think it’s on the players as individuals especially when it is effort, attitude and intent that is lacking.
Also, the idea that it’s ok to give up because the guys around you aren’t putting in or aren’t up to it, is a characteristic of a loser not a winner or a leader!

I can only assume it’s all the pressure associated with this contract decision. I would hope , if he stays, that a new, ferocious and focused ,SO might appear.
Or am I dreamin !!

No doubt if he leaves he'll turn for the better with more better players around him.
Having to spend up to near the cap every year is a blight on the game.

We pay well for no accountability and the salary cap rules ensure thats how it will stay until by some chance we manage to "retain" (- it's become more of a problem than recruitment given the amount of players we have let go doing the job elsewhere )- a group of players who give a crap about the club and are not manipulated by managers who use us as leg up only to then wipe us when another club comes knocking.

Yep Hal, but only he can answer that question. That’s pretty much my point. I can’t say that he’s shown any real consistency in his performances even well before all these distractions.
Maybe he needs to stand in front of a mirror and ask himself if he really wants to have a long career in the NRL and how he wants to be thought of. No doubt he’s got the potential but he has to find the mental strength and attitude to make something of himself. Blame the club or benji if people want but in my view it’s all on him.

Stephano obviously not coping with all the speculation on his future. Club should stand him down until he sorts out his contract situation, as Penrith did with Turuva, offering his 1st grade spot to others who are committed to WT this year & beyond..

Very good point !

PS I used to love Marella Jubes especially at the pictures ! 🤣

Didn't his manager want the clause included in his contract which was done by the club in good faith (whether you agree with it or not). Richardson has allowed him to test the market so it really is up to Utoikamanu and his manager to ensure this works for the club as well.

Honestly, seeing his performances of late, I really don't mind if he leaves.
Suppose he resigns for the $800k a season, great. But we are still paying him over his current value and speculating that he will improve.
