Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

A million stories around about Bellamy turning Cronk into the best half in the game....
But Smith turned Bellamy into a coach?
I'm not buying either....

What Bellamy has built there will remain in the Walls long after he's gone.
I guess so, he’s been a great coach results wise

But his carry on like an adolescent or a kid locked up in juvy is not my cup of tea.

In the meantime, we have the Mork from Orc.

Benji during his halcyon modeling days.

Zany and whacky, it seems he’s brought those unique talents to coaching.

Who didn’t fall over laughing at this weeks side?!

If we can’t have a laugh at this sad state of affairs atm, we’d all be in therapy.

Courage my friends, courage!

I know Parra squashed the claims....

But, Luai is very close friends with Jnr Paulo.
Is he the old head we need for our pack?
Set the standard....

Where there is smoke there is fire.

If I was looking at either of them, It wouldn't be that one....
He's been Puss - At least RCG has 'some' moments.

Begs the Question though, What do we do with our other overpaid old Prop?

Really happy for Madge to get that series win. Despite not having much success with us, he could never be faulted for his efforts and passion.

Makes me think his style is best suited to a more elite environment, though, or a top end NRL team where his motivation seems to work putting the finishing touches on more self starters and guiding already highly motivated players, rather than trying to lift a ragtag bunch off the bottom of the table.

Yeah, mate quality players make a coaches job a little bit easier.

3 games a year of of balls to the wall passion works well in the origin arena, week to week NRL over a full season gets old quick. Origin suits him well, little game plan needed and just need to make sure the boys are up, but as for his NRL head coach days...I think they're well and truly done.

On the topic of the Storm and players with the surname Smith, if we can offload an outside back (cough Brent Naden) from our roster for next season, Reimis Smith would be an ideal profile to target for our right centre/wing position.

Off contract, Meaney/Howarth/Warbrick/Coates/Faalago have jumped him in Storm's outside back roster, he is very good defensively, tall, reasonably quick & deceptively strong, plus experienced.

Reportedly on about $320-$350k at the Storm so would not eat a lot of cap.

Smith & Turuva on our right side changes things immediately.

I'd say Bula is largely responsible. As needaname said the fullback is supposed to direct the returning defenders into position. I haven't been to a game for a while to judge if Bula is doing this. But a relative rookie, who was criticised by the (previous) coach for having no voice and didn't play fullback through the grades, id be shocked if he is competent at setting the defensive line.

Just watching on TV, Currently Koroisau and Klemmer are the only middle that makes an effort to move with the numbers. Utoikamanu does when he can be bothered, not lately. The rest do not. Twal and Pole the worst offenders. I was banging on about this last season.
Don’t let Snidest see this post, you will get his blood pressure boiling.

Smith is a ball hog, goes himself with the winger unmarked a stack of times

No they are both older, would both be 21y.o this year I think.
Neither initially had the huge wraps that some of our other young players get, but both have steadily improved, become very reliable players and in Hodges case is now showing he’s a player that can make regular line breaks and score tries whether he’s playing lock or hooker.
Neither of them are very big, but both are quick over a short distance and play with plenty of heart and desire.
I think BlackWhiteGold is right with Hodges being the one most likely to be given a development contract with us for 2025.
Belllend I assume you are talking about Zak Clarke ?
He’s another who I believe is, or will be turning 21 this year.
He definately has x-factor a big bodied and very mobile back rower. His attack is great, if he can tighten up and improve his defence he will be NRL quality for sure.
It seems the club favours Lachlan Broederlow over him at this stage as he appears to have a more reliable all round game, but he cannot bust tackles with ease like Clarke does.

We've lost Zak Clarke to the Panthers next season. That's both Clarke brothers from Magpies pathways move to other clubs this past year. Can't keep them all, maybe was seen behind Broederlow & Sukkar in our 19/20yo backrow talents & with Duncombe and Godinet highly rated also coming through.

So Madge has now been at:
Wigan - premiership winners
Souths - premiership winners
Wests Tigers - no finals
NZ - World Cup Finalists and Pacific Champions beating Australia 30-0
NSW - Origin Series win

Anyone notice the outlier there?
Haha yep exactly. How people can say his coaching career in the NRL is done because of the tigers stint is laughable. You could have any coach in the world & they wouldn’t get this team to finals, until players stop getting overpaid to come while putting in minimal effort the cycle will continue

Yes. He can only coach with elite players. Give him a team like Wests Tigers and he is as he proved a grain of sand in dirty water. Did you notice that?
