Fishing Thread

Has there been much of a tailor season this year up that way?
On and off. Beach gutters have been quite average this year but have got some up to 65cms nearby.
Just waiting for the swell to drop of to go try again. Just bought a Shimano Sustain reel that has helped me cast better so looking forward to getting amongst them again.

Love to know what every ones preferred fish to eat is
I enjoy Flathead fillets fried on bbq plate with just salt and pepper or the old crumbed and deep fried , another nice I had in NZ ona trip over was a cod of some type , nice think piece battered , it was so good I walked back to the fish and chip shop to ask what fish it was , I think it was Blue cod or something like that , but it was very nice , nice white fish fillet
I once had BBQ Blue Eyed Cod at a restaurant. Best fish I ever had. Unfortunately was on the specials board and haven’t seen since.

Cheers. Had the same problem last year when we went up to the Mid North coast. A real lack of formations, then throw in some of the Pros down from Qld netting the mullet, made for a bleak time.

Big q for me is if I can be bothered going out at dusk. Light but cold Southerly blowing. Low tide so perhaps no gutter but could be bream in the gutter rather than tailor.
OH, the quandaries of life !

Going to miss today's game - going fishing for some hopefully big tailor (caught some up to 70cm earlier this week). Using lures for the last of the daylight and then switching to pillies on gang hooks for the last of the light and evening.
BTW - bream are still in big numbers in Nambucca. Caught 20 two nights ago (only kept my bag limit of 10). Biggest 38cm.

Loving it.
Bream makes good sashimi if from the ocean. River ones (darker colour) I prefer to pan fry.
The bigger tailor are great pan-fried; the smaller ones in a Japanese hiraki style (butterflied and very lightly salted, leave out on a rack overnight to draw out some moisture, then pan fry or grill). Will also hot smoke the larger tailor (dijon mustard, cracked black pepper and lemon juice).

Good luck !!

Hmmm. Looks like fishing was the best choice for today given some comments I've read re the game.
Started off lure fishing. Young mate can cast another 30 metres over me. Had 4 in the bag before I took a breath.
Come close to dark so I reverted to what I know best and used pillies. Got 8 all over 50cm in short order.
3rd person got 5.
Young mate bagged out, still using different lures after dark. He must be the devil 🙂
In all 23 fish between 3 of us 50 - 65cm.
I'll have the hot smoker out in the morning; also prepping some as Japanese hiraki style for grilling or pan frying. The bigger ones will be delicious pan fried with a light splash of soy and some lime from the backyard.
