John Bateman #268

Left field thought ... I wonder whether it is worth making a change to Bateman's position if it becomes likely he is here for the entirety of his contract.

A light-weight prop (not lock) following the lead of the Bulldogs blueprint of hardworking smaller middles. Off the bench that is. Focus on line-speed in defence, running onto the ball at speed, try to find space behind the ruck with tiring defences.

Food for thought. Remember he's on a decent wicket here so may not be able to be moved on easily.

Great idea . Can tighten up the ruck. Be instructed no penalties . Do your job hit ups and tight defence and off

And watch him get pushed back 10 meters every hit up

Problem may be he gets smashed when he takes hit ups and driven backwards forcing loss of momentum and slow ptb. Also loses his shit way too often in the engine room.
Props don’t take hit ups for us.

Have a look at the stats for Klemmer, Miller and others last weekend.

Too busy tackling after some idiot does something dumb with possession or gets himself in the sin bin. The best teams (Roosters excepted) hold the ball and don't give it away easily.
This. The low IQ stuff is too frequent and while it’s to be expected with such a young squad, our older heads are often the ones committing the mistakes.

Clearly Richo has a lot of moving parts happening in the background, all of which would be extremely hard to negotiate in our favour. IMO this has something to do with those scenarios. We can only hope Bateman never returns, and I have no doubt Richo feels the same. You simply don't loan out your vice captain.

I'm so happy

I must have been watching the wrong game last weekend, I thought he was one of our best in defence, Shawn sezer was bined he was egging his team mates on .
I can’t believe the hate for him , he tries his arse of every game , yes the gives away a few penalties and runs across field , but he’s playing in a crap forward pack , that can’t bend the line , IF anyone is to blame it’s the people who but this rabble together , he may not be as good as he was with the raiders BUT if I was out there I would be happy having him next to me in defence
