Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

If Coffs Harbour has the Big Banana, Belmore has the Big Sombrero!
Of all the clubs, not sure how Dogs come under scrutiny for a 'sombrero'.
They would have the cheapest 1 and 7 (Sezer aside) in the game. A largely unheralded forward pack outside of Kikau which typically features 2 first year rookies every week. And there big money centre and wing is balanced by Xerri bought on the cheap after his drug ban and Kiraz who they got after he wasn't offered a contract at Knights.
There'd be a dozen clubs I'd question before the Dogs. Though I'd admit outside looking in perhaps they got away with some shenanigans with Jackson early retirement and Pangai walking away, however no evidence of any actual wrong doing.

I know for a fact that Jermaine Hopgood went to eels after having lunch with Brad Arthur and apparently they hit it off, and now Brad ain’t there. I also know that he was never coming here even though we spoke to him. But that was before we sacked Sheens, sacked most of the board, signed Richo, signed Luai and Turuva, and his former Api Captain is here?
Hopgood is not a game changer on is own but he’s definitely not a bludger, and we need a set and forget lock until the next gun ball playing lock comes along. Also gives our younger locks at the club time to develop their game in reggies bcoz they ain’t ready.
He is not available to talk till November 1, but since when has that stopped anyone from talking to our players. Gould does it while calling a game, right in front of everyone.

Hopgood is one of the best locks in the game.

The problem is we only have a small number snr players relative to our competition. If you are getting pummeled every week and you’re feeling you’re trying pretty hard, then I don’t blame batemans reaction if he was having a weak moment.

The quality of the squad is the problem so perhaps benji should be supporting the snr players rather than singling them out.

What ever experience we had is now out the door or completely demotivated.
What do you mean ? I had a debate at half time with king sirro about his value , because he was all over the place . That got way worse as the game went on , and we were closer to a victory than not ! That’s hardly a “I’m putting in but no one else is “ situation .
Outside of Lualiii and his 2 horrific errors , the 3 biggest contributors to that loss were him , Sezer and AD ball hogging / glory chasing .
If you’re a coach , and your job is to assess this , how can you come to any other conclusion other than my older players are passengers on this team .

difference between dogs and tigers is that dogs can cut the deadwood lose and signed better than average first graders.

Perhaps calling out Bateman and him walking out this season will work out in our favour…but chances are we will be paying big $$ for him to play in England next year. Or worse, ressies for us.
Bateman won’t come back to play reserve grade , I think he may not be back at all and that’s on him so we pay nothing we don’t need to pay him to leave , he left so zero cost to us

No he hasn't.

Whilst it's a nice story (his recovery), his defence on his return has shown very little improvement from what it always has been. He's made on average 11 tackles per game, missing around two per match. What this doesn't show, though, is both misreads on the edge and lack of effort plays, like cover tackles, chasing half/clean breaks, etc.

At 25 years of age, having played near on 100 NRL games, he should have improved immensely in this area, regardless of time off. In fact, he has had more time than most to reflect on the insufficiencies in his game and come up with a plan to improve. This includes communication and organising his edge, regardless of who is inside or outside of him. Far too often, he continues to take the easy option and look to blame everyone else when his edge falls apart.

He remains a strong ball runner who loves to go himself and is a threat near the line or in broken field play and I'm glad he's back in the rotation.

But until he gets fair dinkum about the other side of his game without the ball, he'll forever be stuck as a mediocre footballer. He's in the same boat as Starford To'a.
Agreed .. I’m a special kind of freaking out about having Starford Toa and Faatape in the centres this week ,, especially without Bateman there to babysit them in defence

With all due your respect Richo - what are the Tigers going to do with a war chest?
Well the 1st thing we will do is sack another 5-8 players , then that will mean me and benji can do a world trip flying 1st class , stay at the best hotels and drink great wines . As for the tigers I looked over the under 10s and they have some great talent there , so just sit back and wait till there ready, we should be back in tiger town just as there ready to play 1st grade , cheers all .

Been serious, I think that’s what a lot on here think , releasing players no replacements , and hoping that kids can just fill the void , and zero information at all too us supporters, not good enough

and a bloke called JAC

Crichton, Burton, Kikau, Mahoney, JAC, Tuipolotu, that kid Oluapu 500k they brought from
up north, and then all the rest 14-17 Mann, Curren
etc. Get the F outta here. No way they're cap compliant

No I didn't. Mahoney would be an average money hooker (reported as 650k) no more than the majority of starting hookers. Burton would likely be over 800k but still about standard for any teams dominant half.

Its mostly speculation all this anyway. I’m just disappointed it’s all gone to poop. I think he was one of the few that had a crack (over the season) and actually cared.

Did u watch the raiders game , scored a good strong try but he had chances to fly down the wing but was rounded up very quickly, maybe u need to rewatch that game
I don't need to rewatch that game. I've watched more of Luke than just his handful of first grade games. He is not Hamiso-quick, but he has plenty of pace to play wherever in the backline he will end up fitting.

I suggest you use more than a 3 game sample size to form opinions of 18 year olds that you know nothing about.
