Signings, Suggestions & Rumours Discussion

Sadly Paps never wanted to be here. We found a club willing to take him at full freight and we released him. Fair enough I think.

For some perspective, I think if more was available on the market, nobody would care.
Ur 100% right , but how does this go down with GALVIN who wants away as well , and any other player who might want out .
Then we let Bateman walk , this is a terrible precedent that the club is letting happen

I don't need to rewatch that game. I've watched more of Luke than just his handful of first grade games. He is not Hamiso-quick, but he has plenty of pace to play wherever in the backline he will end up fitting.

I suggest you use more than a 3 game sample size to form opinions of 18 year olds that you know nothing about.
What he will get faster if I hit fast forward on my foxtel .

I dont think Galvin or Bateman have publicly said anything about wanting to leave.

Paps had a full year of being publicly non-committal about his new contract.

We were shopping Bateman around anyway, so not surprised he's gone.

We put our foot down with Galvin, but ultimately, once they have fulfilled their obligations, they are free to leave. It's not like we are making a good case for him to stick around. Results will give players more confidence to stay.

Horsburgh apparently free to negotiate. I’d take him as prop / middle forward. 26 years old, came back from injury and can’t get a look in Canberra’s pack which is stacked.

Was playing origin not too long ago. I know he can be a hot head but you at least know you’re going to get effort on effort
Another Sauce.....take him

I would suggest a number don’t want to be here … for example Galvin …

The thing that irks me most is not Paps leaving … but there was no plan to replace him … they are looking very bare for experienced forwards in 2025…

Is this thread about the Bulldogs or the Tigers? I’m not sure anymore.
It’s a prime example of how Wests Tigers have failed in their recruitment and could have signed many players on the cheap who have ended up and now starring for the Bulldogs.
An example of how any club can go from the bottom of the ladder to the top 8 very quickly with smart recruitment.
An example of what we as a club should be highlighting to try and prevent a club such as the Bulldogs taking Stefano off us.

More important is that the Bulldogs have shown how to recruit a mixture of big signings with workhorses/effort/right attitude that becomes infectious across the rest of the squad.

Often teams just go after a big ticket signing and think the job is done.

Hard work pays off issue is at our club most don’t actually know what true hard work actually is.

Our problem is relying seemingly solely on our juniors, thats great if you can guarantee they will be amazing and maybe they will be but also might not. The jury is still out even on Galvin and Latu. In the mean time you need to recruit smartly which we aren't doing now were relying on other clubs having cap pressure and having to offload. Risky business really we seem to be focusing on a clean out but not really having much luck, Bateman and Ice. We will waste Luai if we don't put something semi decent around him and then the promising juniors will leave anyway.
Start with upgrading Pole and Si Finau and work from there.

no … but Galvins manager has asked the club for a release several times this year … he also did not accept the clubs extension
Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't that to do with playing him injured?

Secondly, you've got one of the best young talents in the game playing in a team that has come last for 3 years. Any competition around the world will see these players snapped up by better clubs. We are not victims here.

It's survival of the fittest. We need to be better as a club to give players a reason to stay. You can't expect them to stick around if we can't get our act together.

Mate it wasn't that quick. The dogs had been struggling for quite some time. It took them a while to clean out the roster and pick up quality players. They had been struggling since before Dean Pay.

Burton, Mahoney, Kikau, Crichton, JAC....now add guys like Curran, Xerri, Kiraz, Treacy.

This didn't happen overnight.

Our team reminds me of where the Dogs were under Pay. We have some recruitment to do for sure, but we are not going to get there in one season.

Not that I’m aware … I think he has requested the release three times or something…
Beginning in the off season..

I’m not blaming Galvin for wanting to leave either … it’s why I don’t understand what’s going on with the Team recruitment efforts for 2025 …. They should be pulling out all stops to try to recruit some players and improve the teams fortunes … where things stand ..losing Paps, Stef and likely Bateman ( I’m not crying over that one ) ..they might even be worse off next year with only Luai and Turuva coming back so far

they got another 12 months to improve things and try to move up the ladder and convince the likes of Galvin and others coming off contract that things are on the improve …
